welcome from the principal Dear Audience, It is a real pleasure to be able to present the 2019 EP Musical Little Shop of Horrors. You are all in for a real treat as the show is a colourful explosion of the school’s full creative prowess. You can expect an evening of fantastic acting, dancing, singing and musicianship along with a mise en scène that will evoke the senses with exciting set design, clever props and lavish costumes.

Auditions were first held for the production back in September. Since then it has been a real labour of love from students and staff alike to be ready for tonight's show. The students always take great pride in school productions and this has been no exception with everybody going the extra mile to turn tonight into a truly magical event. The value to the students of participating in this production is incredibly high; it has built a creative community across year groups for cast and crew alike and has also built confidence across all art forms. The students have experienced a professional working environment which has provided an opportunity for responsibility, leadership, collaboration and of course a great deal of fun!

Little Shop of Horrors is an uplifting and quirky musical with a catchy score, larger than life characters and colourful costumes. So please join us as we take you from down on Skid Row to Somewhere That's Green. A huge thank you to everybody involved in making the EP Musical once again the hottest ticket in town. I hope you enjoy the show, although you may never feel the same way about that trip to the garden centre ever again...not to mention the dentist!

Plot synopsis LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS The action opens on Mushnik’s Flower Shop, a failing store on Skid Row. The few plants in stock are, like their surroundings, run down and fading.

There we meet Mr Mushnik and his two employees, Audrey and the nerdish Seymour Krelborn who secretly has a crush on his beautiful but much-abused co-worker.

Audrey, attempting to help Mushnik bring more customers into his failing business, persuades him to look at one of the “exotic plants Seymour has been tinkering around with.” Mushnik is intrigued and allows Seymour to display his flytrap-looking plant, which he has named, in honour of his secret love, Audrey II. Seymour and Crystal, Ronnette, and Chiffon (who provide musical accompaniment and commentary throughout the show) perform an upbeat number explaining that the strange flower was purchased from Chang’s Flower Shop. The plant appeared, “mysteriously,” after a total eclipse of the sun.

Of course, the strange plant draws customers and business is soon booming. In celebration, Mushnik invites Seymour and Audrey out on the town, but Audrey has a date with her boyfriend, the sadistic dentist, Orin Scrivello. Seymour stays behind to tend to the suddenly ailing Audrey II. That night, alone in the shop, he discovers the shocking secret to the plant’s health and phenomenal growth: human blood.

Seymour encourages the plant’s growth by pricking his fingertips and feeding Audrey II his own blood. This only lasts for a few days, however, and the meagre drops of blood aren’t enough for the quickly growing plant. Finally, late one night the plant grows bold and speaks: “feed me.” Audrey II has now become a singing, dancing, jive talking, vampire vegetable!

Plot synopsis (Cont.)

Eventually, the plant demands more and more, and Orin becomes more and more abusive to Audrey; thus Seymour comes up with the natural solution.

Murder Orin and feed him to Audrey II! He is spared the ghastly deed, however, when the nitrous-addicted dentist laughs himself to death on his own anaesthetic gas. Seymour is left only with the task of dismembering the dentist and feeding him to Audrey II. This, of course, also opens up interesting possibilities in Seymour’s love life.

Following the disappearance of Orin, Seymour builds up the courage to tell Audrey of his true feelings for her. Audrey responds with the touching song, “Suddenly Seymour,” and the two are united.

Unfortunately, Mushnik witnessed Seymour’s crime and threatens to turn him into the police if he does not leave the country. The plant, however, must stay. Of course, the solution for Seymour is once again right in front of him, and he tricks Mushnik into the jaws of the ever-hungry Audrey II. As the plant and the body count grow so does Seymour’s fame and fortune.

Ultimately, however, Seymour’s natural goodness begins to make him think about his lifestyle and what he must do to maintain it. At last, he decides to flee with Audrey to be married and plots to destroy Audrey II. Before Seymour can complete his plan, however, the plant mortally wounds Audrey.

Dying, she requests that she be fed to the plant, so she can become a part of it and always be near Seymour. As the music swells, Seymour feeds her to Audrey II, which at last reveals its ultimate plans--nothing less than world domination. Seymour makes one last attempt to kill the plant but fails. In the end, he too is devoured. The singers, joined now by the faces of the dead characters, warn that Audrey II and other alien plants have begun to devour the world one city at a time--and we are left to scream with laughter.

who's who in the cast

River Morgan (Seymour) -

River was previously seen in last year's magical Christmas performance Beauty and the Beast, playing the Father. As an A-Level Drama & Theatre student, he is used to performing for an audience.

He has undertaken professional youth music theatre camps in the UK, enjoys sports and martial arts and has performed chorally and musically in the years he was away from Alice Smith.

Loretta Hellier (Audrey)

Krishten Lotha Pradhan (Seymour) - Krishten’s EP the-

atre debut was in the schools performance of The Tempest playing Sebastian; he was then cast in the lead role of 'Fat Sam' in Bugsy Malone. Krishten has said that he enjoys the team aspect of theatre the most; the cooperation of all elements coming together and creating a cohesive and collaborative performance. Krishten enjoyed his time with the company of Little Shop of Horrors and hopes you enjoy the show.

This is Loretta's fourth theatre production at Alice Smith, having previously been in Oh! What a Lovely War, Bugsy Malone and last year's Beauty and the Beast production.

Loretta has been involved in multiple Frantic Assembly workshops, which she has thoroughly enjoyed and, in Year 10, she helped the then Year students with their own school production. Last year, Loretta achieved her Drama IGCSE, which she is very pleased with.

Tara Milner-Wang (Audrey) - Tara made her acting debut playing Anna in the JB Year 6 production of Frozen. She enjoys acting and has found being part of the Little Shop cast very enjoyable and she loves making new friends and singing.

Victoria Raunio (Audrey II) - This is Victoria's fourth pro-

duction at Alice Smith. Her productions have encompassed Oh! What a Lovely War in Year 8, Bugsy Malone in Year 10 in which she played Fat Sam's gangster Ritzy, and then most recently, Beauty and the Beast playing Beauty's sister.

She loves the production community and how it is enabling her to develop her skills as an actor and a singer after completing her Music GCSE and Drama IGCSE last year.

Teresa Habib Meriggi (Audrey II) -

This is Teresa's first lead role in an Alice Smith production after building her skills since Year 7. She has thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being in Little Shop of Horrors and loves the challenge of portraying a feisty character like Audrey II. As well as taking part in the production, Teresa also spends her time singing in the school's acapella group and playing in the orchestra honing her musicality.

Shuewen Tay (Chiffon) -

Little Shop is Shuewen's first performance in a leading role in an Alice Smith School production.

Apart from this, she has had a singing role in Alice Smith's last musical - Bugsy Malone. Shuewen has found being part of a crew who not only pushes you, but encourages and supports you, to be the most valuable part of her experience.

She's very glad that her past self decided to audition, despite how daunting it initially seemed, as she's found herself looking forward to every rehearsal.

Jamila Abdel-Razek (Crystal) - Little Shop of Horrors is

Jamila's first school production with Alice Smith. She is finding so much support in the encouragement of her peers, having both the opportunity to carry out her passion for dance and singing. Jamila is interested in many aspects of the extra-curricular, being out on the field or the court playing sport and improving her musicality on stage.

Jamila hopes that your feet tap to the music and you spill a couple of tears to the heart-wrenching story of Little Shop. Jamila finds this company to have been almost a family and hopes you enjoy the musical ride as much as she does.

Joachim Fabre-Nair (Mushnik) - Joachim got his acting skills

from Drama Club at JB and was always excited to go. When he heard that the production was Frozen he signed himself up to audition and succeeded in getting the part of Olaf.

When he arrived at EP he saw posters with information about the Bugsy Malone auditions and signed up immediately. Out of the blue Joachim got his second main part of Dandy Dan and he had really emotional moments during Bugsy Malone, making new friends and becoming a family. Joachim got his third main part this year Mr Mushnik and he hopes that the show will be a success.

Anwen Tay (Ronette)

During the 2015 Year 6 production of We Will Rock You, Anwen played the role of Scaramouche. She was also a singer in Bugsy Malone and a dancer in Beauty and the Beast.

School productions are always Anwen's favourite part of the year because she loves to watch the progress made from the first rehearsal to the final performance, finding it both a rewarding and gratifying experience. Anwen's previous experience includes singing in the Kuala Lumpur Children's Choir for 6 years, performing around the world, including places like Latvia for the World Choir Games.

Adam English (Orin) -

Dana Stoel (Mushnik)

Dana has been in previous productions of Bugsy Malone and Beauty and the Beast as part of the ensemble. She enjoys the community created from school productions and the supportive atmosphere that her peers provide. She is currently enjoying the iGCSE Drama course, honing her skills in acting, directing and designing.

This is Adam's first production as an EP student and he is massively excited to take part, especially since his last performance at school was in Year 6 in Suessical the Musical.

Adam is a member of the KL Players, a non-profit, amateur dramatic group who perform twice annually with all profits earned going to charity. He is also a gifted dancer! Adam says 'Smile more... if you go to a good dentist!'

Alastair Tupling (Orin) -

Alastair has participated in the past six productions. From humble beginnings of a soldier in Macbeth, before being promoted to commanding officer in Oh! What a Lovely War and as part of the chorus of Medea. Finally making a named role in Bugsy Malone as Snake Eyes. This continued in Beauty and the Beast where he was the Beast himself, and finally his current role of Orin the Dentist. Alastair spends much of his time engaged in the Arts, participating in several Drama workshops in KL as well as Australia. He spends most of his time creating his own work for A-Level Art.

India Stewart-Williams (Mrs Luce/Ensemble) -

In India's time in Alice Smith, she has played Meatloaf in We Will Rock you in her Year 6 production and was part of the ensemble in last year's production of Beauty and the Beast. Since the age of 3 years old, India has been dancing in a range of styles and later on took part in musical theatre classes. She is currently studying Drama at GCSE and performs often, whether it be dance, drama or even singing.

Jun Sean Chuah (Bernstein) - For Sean, taking part

in the production is a great form of stress relief. Joining the production and acting keep his mind off his A-Levels and allows him to freely be himself around others for a couple hours per week.

Rishabh Sen (Customer)

Eric Ueda (Interviewer) -

This is the third production Eric has been part of at EP. In Year 7, Eric played the gangster role in Bugsy Malone; then, in Year 8, he was part of the ensemble in Beauty and the Beast. He has signed up as he has always loved to be part of a group and to be able to create something as big as the production. Eric has also taken Trinity Acting Exams outside of school.

Other than Drama, Eric has a passion for playing the violin and playing football.

Eliza Slade (Mrs Luce/Lead Dancer) - Eliza took a starring

role in last year's Beauty and the Beast EP production as one of the obnoxious sisters. She is currently the choreographer in the Year 9 Musical Theatre Elective, leading her peers in their rendition of It's A Hard Knock Life from Annie.

Rishabh has taken part in two previous productions: Bugsy Malone, in which he was a Radio Announcer/a Mime; and Beauty and the Beast, in which he was a member of the Ensemble. Rishabh joined this year's production as he has a deep interest in theatre. He also enjoys how, over the course of rehearsals, students become closer to their friends and get to know their peers from other year groups, making new friends across the Key Stages. He has participated in both the FOBISIA Drama Festival and the Frantic Assembly Theatre-Making Residency.

Hunayn Shaharuddin (Skip Snip) - Audiences will

remember Hunayn from his seminal performance as Trunchball in JB's Year 6 production Matilda. This is his first EP production. He really enjoys how it isn't just the acting that is going on. For example, at the start of the rehearsal he will walk in and there is something completely new on the set. He also plays chess, cricket and archery.

Kieran Chow (Plant - Voice)

- This is Kieran's first production in EP Alice Smith, having previously played Mr. Wormwood in Matilda and Scrooge in The Night Before Christmas at JB. Kieran has found it really fun working with the cast of Little Shop of Horrors. Kieran feels that his strongest subjects are Music and Drama and he hopes to be in as many performances as he can in the future.

Adam Suardi (Martin)

Adam was involved in the school productions of Bugsy Malone and last year's Beauty and the Beast, in which he played Beauty's brother.

He has also participated in the FOBISIA Drama Festival and the Frantic Assembly Theatre-Making Residency.
