The Archaeological site of Ponticelli Roman Villa seen in relationship with public spaces in order to achive urbanand social rejuvenation of Naples marginal area.

Naples Workshop

The Ponticelli Lotto 0 district was intended to function as an independent, selfsufficient suburban block to help decongest the city of Naples. However, as much of the urban planning was never realised, Ponticelli was trapped in a loop of urban decay, discomfort of social structure, environmental decay and high crime rate. The presence of an ancient Roman Villa at the terminal end of Tutor: the district offers an opportunity to invest in a new, yet rooted identity to this Pasquale Miano satellite town and mark the first step at breaking this vicious cycle. The outward looking nature of the Roman Villa Rustica becomes an inspiration to design Architects Team: Daphne Andritsou safe outdoor public spaces for the people of the neighbourhood. The attempt is to integrate the archaeological landscape of agricultural significance with the Arnika Blount modern contemporary urban fabric and needings. The archaeological area of Viviana Dionisio the Roman Villa is only a starting point to the social and urban rejuvenation.

Enea Serjani From there on 5 -10 Year urban planning strategies are proposed for redefining Nektarios Pisimisis and redeveloping public spaces of the neighbourhood. The area of the Villa is Archaeologist Team: proposed as a public space to foster the rejuvenation. According to its reading Kruthika Ganesh along the different stratas of life in the territory along different ages the area is designed as divided in 3 main areas. The first is an urban square, with facilities Conservationist Team: aimed to reactivate it and provide services to the archaeological site. The Bahareh Kheyrkhah second area is the Villa itself, enhanced protected and highlighted with a shelter which reduces its border for a wider public space. The last is a productive Year: Feb 2022 landscape designed in order to provide different activities and backgrounds not only too the inhabitants of the neighborhood but also to the visitors of the site.

An Urban Park, a Cultural Enclave and an Archaeological site for the neighborhood of Kerameikos in Athens.

Locating to the northwest of Athens’ Acropolis, Kerameikos archaeological site contains the citizens’ cemetery and the fortification of the Ancient city of Athens.

Kerameikos was named from “the ceramic craft” and contains human burials since the 3rd mill. After a first phase of the project, the Team developed a personal map ping of the area in analisys, called ‘Emotionscape’. the topic of the project hides in the emotion affordance of the archaeological site revealing its lost “genius loci”, and the project motto follows A.Rossi lines “The soul of the city resides in the history of the place, once the soul is given form, it becomes the sign of a place”.In order to reinstate the Lost sense of place, the proposal joins together the different parts of Kerameikos contemporary neighborhood in a broader urban park which embraces its diversities. All its cultural evidences, building and activities are involved in order to create a cultural enclave for the area. To achive these goals the hightraffic road which connect Athens city center to Pieaeus harbour is sinked in corrispondence with the archaeological site and the main viability axis to allow circulation along the park are Ermou street and Tombs way. The former connect the busy city center with the park itself while the second, one of the ancient roads, is reinstate in its trace from the inside of the archaeological site to the outside, in order to make it (controled)public and give it back to the contemporary city. The Archaeological site is, in fact, seen as a park within the park, freely open during the day but closed at night thanks to the new border systems. 7 key-points installation or pavillion help to enhance the monuments and their readability: the entrance through the tombs way, the Sanctuary pavillon, the Sacred way pavilon, the river which is reinstate in its original nature, the Dypilon gate, the Propylaea as entrance to the modern11 city and the Museum of Death&Life, head of Ermou street and of the archaeological site, core of the project in which city and park, archaeology and daily life merge.

Serenissima Station and Park are an area located in the Eastern Perifery of Rome, between Monti Tiburtini neighborhood and Casilino-Centocelle area. In its current condition the area is read as a void between the two dense populated neighborhood. Its condition of abandonment and division in land properties doesn’t allow the rescue of the area as public space to the community.

Moreover, the presence of Archaeological sites excavated and then reburied or totally unkown represent another obstacle to the design for an urban park.

Archeo Valley consists in a Proposal taking advantage of all the preexistences, from the industrial abandoned structures, the agriculture dedication of the land and the unkown heritage hided in it. The project suggests highlighiting the present border of the area such as the northern highway and southern undergorund railway in order to free the park as a river bed, therefore called Valley. Therefoore, using a major grid, the proposal divides the area in patches with paths aimed connecting them. These areas have thematic destinations and in corrispondance with archaeological site they predispone the use of the land as excavated site or invisible heritage exhibitions. In particular, the project develops the design in 3 peculiar keypoints. The first develops the ancient roman necropoli already excavated and reburied, as soil installation, as big earth block separated by walking streets, in order to bring back the feeling of sacrality brought with a burial space. The area of the sanctuary is suggested as a holy forest with structures hided in it with a surprise effect in the underbrush.

The archaeological site of the Roman villa carried as a grane field land, useful for inhabitants of the neihgborhood to coltivate and additional place for activities and leisure. The ancient trace of Collatina road, an ever presence for the area is reinstate as a modern and connective path for Serenissima Park.

LR | FAMILY HOUSE Two storey conversion in the popular neighborhood De Pijp in Amsterdam

The owners of this ground floor and basement property in de Pijp, an area of central Amsterdam, wanted to live in a loft-like environment that provided substantially more family and storage space. Atelier van Wengerden designed and oversaw a major alteration project that extended the basement into the garden and transformed the ground floor. The current situation, in fact, provided a crowded ground floor, which hosted kitchen and living, without real functioning areas, and tight and dark basement with a labirinth of caotic rooms.

In order to allow a lighter and wider space to the basement, its floor was lowered, hanging a concrete new floor to the existing walls. The basement now houses four bedrooms, two bathrooms, substantial storage space and a laundry room. It also incorporates a central hallway that leads to the staircase to the ground floor. Here, the kitchen was moved to the centre of the ground floor, next to the stairs, and a long wall-cupboard offers further storage space and a media area. The floor at the front of the house was raised to create a better connection with the street, also creating created storage space beneath the floor. This intervention allowed a lighter space and a continuous visibility from the street windows to the garden terrace.

A palette of natural timbers, light green colours and the light terrazzo flooring both contribute to a sense of greater airiness and space than existed previously.

The new basement floor created a bench of 45x45 cm running along the whole perimeter which was used as base for beds or cupboards, for sink or furnitures or as bench itself such as in the shower. The project involved detailed design of each furniture element, from the continuous cupboard of the ground floor to the custom-made basement furnitures which adapted to the new basement floor.

GA apartment is a Loft located on one of the main canals of Amsterdam Red Light District. The request from the owner was to enhance its characteristic plan privileging the peculiar view on Oudezijds Voorburgwal Canal. The proposal consisted in a clear division between night and day areas. The former hosts two bedrooms at both edges around a facilities core involving cupboards, laundry space and bathrooms. The living develops as a open space articulating between the kitchen through the courtyard opeenings, dining in the center and living area through the canal view.

As a common element a long wall custom-made cupboards declinated the different functions. On the kitchen side, eith a open-closable system, the cupboard hides the coffee niche between shelvings and facilities subordinated to this purpose. At dining level the cupboard, thinner for the presence of techical shafts, became an open-closable bar whit a system of lights and dedicated shelvings for glasses and bottles. Finally facing the sofa the TV niche is located in corrispondance with the Gas fireplace. When closed the cupboard provide a clean background to the living activities, hiding the typical caos of techical devices and daily life routines.

Both openings on the yard and the canal are treated with comfortable height benches with seating or working spaces as the case of the canal view side.

The Atelier task involved also the final styiling of the Loft which consisted in choosing light design furnitures in order to contrast with the grey-scale wooden cover for the long-wall cupboard and facilities night core. A hint of colour on the green shades was added in decorations and design element such as the twin Utrecht chair completing the living seatings.

The owners of this property in the Dutch countryside close to Amsterdam, asked for a modern depandance with rustical style that provided substantially better compartimented-function spaces to their ground floor. The proposal was to enhance the existing nucleus as boxes floating in the light space of the living floor. In the entrance the laundry room and guest bathroom faced one the other for a monumental hallway leading to the living room. Here the element of the firplace, hearth of the family, was used to divide the dining space and the proper living area. A custom-made furniture element stands to separate the dining from another seating area dedicated to games and tv space. This new room is also useful to articulate the ways on one side to the work room and on the other to a guest bedroom with its own bathroom.

Atelier Van Wengerden also provided to design a pergula as buffer zone between the house space and the garden. A new shadowed area as a portico for summer dining activities or leisure moments.

In order to achieve the contrast between rustic environment and modern style the use of the wooden material has been the key element. In fact, the wooden modular panels used as covering for the entrance area were also used for the custom-made furniture peace standing as division element in the dining space. Here, in order to provide a dynamic background to the living activities the modular wooden panels are used together with a custom-made pattern.

This same pattern was also used in tridimension for the portico shelter, in order to provide dynamic light-shadow games according to the daytime and season.

Year: 2019

The proposal for the redevelopment of Dameisha Ocean Park tryes to address the different problems that affect this crucial leisure infrastructure for Shenzen metropolitan region. The many questions identified are: 1 The threat of climate change, raising sea levels and typhoon risks, and the resilience of the park infrastructure in the face of such events.

2 The endemic problem of the loss of sand in the beach needs to be urgently addressed as part of a comprehensive coastal protection strategy which may provide opportunities to increase the beach infrastructure.

3 The overcrowding of the park and the related transport infrastructures and the need to limit the access to the park during the festive seasons. This should be done while providing better connectivity between the urban fabric and the park.

Such an approach will surely require careful implementation planning and possibly the sequential closure of different areas of the park in order to replace the existing infrastructure. But considering the amount of structural work which is already planned on the area, such closure appears almost inevitable and should be used to upgrade the park infrastructure to an international standard. The project tryes to address the existing infrastractural problems throuhg a comprehensive landscape proposal aimed to recast the image of Dameisha Park ad a world class leisure infrastructure which will be easily recognized by a consistent aesthetic approach.

The coastal strip is divided in 3 areas, a public walking path, corrisponding to an underground road and transport drop off, a vegetation buffer zone helpful in hiding services and facilities and the beach itself.

VILNIUS CONCERT HALL

The National Concert hall as a monumental coronation of Tauras Hill with a new urban public space which presides over the city.

Urban planning and The site enjoys a privileged position in Vilnius, appearing prominently on the top of Architectural project Tauras Hill. The building is proposed as structure which crowns the hill, extending AZPML Architects International Competition.

its slopes into a peak, with its roof appearing from far away as a literal projection of the geological structure of the hill. The future National Concert Hall will represent Lituanian culture to become, the Nation’s House. For its configuration, the project adopted a ready-made strategy, taking the iconography of a traditional Lithuanian Homestead (Tatos Namai) to carry the nation’s architectural DNA. Its pitched roofs and generous eaves will crown Tauras Hill with a peak. The high-level roof openings will provide daylight and natural ventilation to the main hall at the centre of the plan. The generous eaves will ensure that people can walk safely around the building protected from rain, snow and wind and will ensure the permeability of the building’s border, providing an active frontage to the visitors to the park. At the end of the slope, landscaped with a system of stairs and escalators, a large Foyer has been located on the North side of the building, opening onto a terrace which enjoys an impressive view of the city of Vilnius. On its southern side, the monumental foyer is supported on the structural boxes of the Grand Hall, the Small Hall and the Nation’s House volumes (an exhibition/educational space), which are gully exposed to structure-free space roofed with a timber structure of the Foyer.

On its East and West side there are Restaurants, Cafe and all the facilities which will also be accessible from the outside. The administration, production facilities and dressing rooms have been located on the South face of the building, the quietest area of the site, while the back-of-house spaces provide facilities and noise isolation to the Main Hall, being located oon the perimeter of it.

VILLA AUGUSTEA

Enhancement and Musealization of a Roman Villa in the Vesuvian Area believed to be confered to Ottaviano Augusto and buried by Vesuvian eruptions.

Archaeology and landscape Studio.

The ‘Villa Augustea’ is a roman villa believed to be the place where the imperator Ottaviano Augusto died. The main core is from 2nd century A.D. and is structured according to terraces which hosts rooms rich of mosaics and frescos. So far, the environments discovered are the entrance nucleus of Tutor: Luca Reale the ancient complex, just 1⁄4 of the whole area. The Villa has been buried by Vesuvius eruptions which left a recognizable sign on the walls. The project is Archaeology tutor: divided into 3 parts: the archeological park, the museum and the villa itself.

Antonio de Simone - The landscape design is based on a paths and squares system deep into the Monte Somma. The first square lies near the local station, which link to other archeological sites (i.e.Pompei and Ercolano). The other two squares stand restirarion tutor: respectively in front of the museum and on the park villa’s entrance.

Nicola Santopuoli - The Museum benefits from the hill’s slope. In fact, the museum main entrance is at the same level of the original roman floor. For this reason the building is designed as a covered square between two arms. The first one, above the Year: 2018-19 ground, houses services and facilities as classrooms for archeology lessons, bar and cafe. The second one, underground, is conceived as a dark exhibition hallway ending directly into the villa to tell her story.

- A canopy and a walkway system musealize the villa itself. The stairecases gofrom the park down into the ancient core. The landings are made in a way that they would stop to a certain height to focus on vulcanic soil layers. A huge canopy protect the entire complex. The steel structure decorated by wood slats and covered by glass plates is designed on two terraces in order to recognize 41 the main villa’s architectures.

4_sotto-passo umano Il sottopasso Turbigo è il tunnel che collega via Giolitti con via Marsala, le due arterie adiacenti alla stazione Termini. Si tratta di uno spazio di passaggio fondamentale che attualmente si trova in uno stato di totale degrado, privo di illuminazione e ventilazione.

Il passaggio è scandito da una sequenza di setti regolari e esigui marciapiedi. Ad oggi è vissuto come un luogo veloce, caratterizzato da intensi flussi veicolari e che non permette una piacevole sosta.

Proposta Il sottopasso Turbigo, pedonalizzato, si arricchisce di nuovi servizi, spazi commerciali. L’introduzione di aperture zenitali garantisce ventilazione e illuminazione naturale.

Piazza Pepe è un luogo complesso, delimitato dal Teatro Ambra Jovinelli, le arcate dell’acquedotto Claudio, il mercato rionale e un parcheggio multipiano. In prossimità della piazza, si trovano diverse strutture alberghiere e il palazzo della Zecca. Il mercato dell’Esquilino fino a qualche anno fa si svolgeva intorno a piazza Vittorio, solo successivamente è stato spostato nell’ex caserma Pepe dismessa, presentando però notevoli problemi igienici e funzionali.

La piazza, nonostante la concentrazione di tante funzioni, non viene vissuta come luogo d’incontro e non permette l’accesso diretto al grande volume del mercato, inoltre i resti dell’acquedotto romano, che si trovano al centro di questa, sono inaccessibili, recintati e poco valorizzati.

In prossimità del centro dell’asse si trova la chiesa di Santa Bibiana, opera del Bernini, poco conosciuta e poco valorizzata a causa della sua attuale posizione.

La chiesa ha origini antichissime, realizzata sui resti della casa di S. Bibiana dove la santa fu seppellita.

Le prime testimonianze scritte la fanno risalire al 468, anno della consacrazione.

La chiesa fu completamente rinnovata nel 1626 da Gian Lorenzo Bernini su commissione di papa Urbano VIII. L’edificio individua davanti a sé uno spazio pubblico recintato che la rende inaccessibile e impercepibile, mentre lateralmente è fiancheggiata dai binari ferroviari. Le vibrazioni qualche anno fa hanno fatto crollare il tetto, oggi ricostruito grazie a un restauro che ha riportato alla luce anche la statua della santa opera del Bernini.
