Effect of the NMC Gazette

Recently the National Medical Commission (NMC) came up with their gazette that lays down the various clauses pertaining to MBBS abroad. For the purpose of this post, the guidelines that are concerned include: -

1. The academic course period should compulsorily be at least 54 months long (4.5 years).

2. The period of internship after the above shall be a minimum of 1 year/12 months.

3. Both of the above shall be done from the same college i.e. candidates aren’t allowed to change universities mid-course.

Thus, any foreign medical degree that does not meet the above criteria won’t be considered valid in India. Thus, the students with these won’t be eligible to give the Indian licentiate cum PG entrance exam that’ll be the NEXT Exam from 2023.

Though the medical degrees of both Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan don’t stand up to the parameters of the NMC Gazette 2021 that have been mentioned above, students need not lose heart.

This is because both these economies depend largely on Indian students, or at the least, a major boost to them is the enrollment of Indian students and the fee they bring. This means that the medical universities here cannot afford to lose such a huge crowd of guaranteed economic boosts. Thus, it won’t be long before the universities of these 2 countries adapt their curriculum to the NMC Gazette.

Just a few days back, the Indian embassy in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) has requested the MBBS in Kyrgyzstan colleges to take swift action in achieving the above.

Thus, whether it’s the above or MBBS in Kazakhstan, students need not worry about the doors of the universities here is closed. They will soon mould their medical courses according to the gazette and students can once again enroll there.
