Un filántropo es una persona que se distingue por el amor a sus semejantes y por las obras que realiza en bien de la comunidad. Quien ejerce la filantropía actúa de forma desinteresada, llegando inclusive a sacrificar aspectos tan valiosos como su tiempo y recursos económicos.

La filantropía se realiza a través de donaciones para colaborar con causas concretas como la construcción de una biblioteca, un museo o un hospital; también mediante acciones mayores y de largo plazo como la erradicación de alguna enfermedad.
