Polk State College celebrates 60years and the Construction of the New Haines City-Davenport Campus

Polk State College Celebrates 60 Years and the Construction of the New Haines City-Davenport Campus

As the president of Polk State College, I feel a great excitement in celebrating the 60th anniversary of what is today the largest institution for higher education and workforce training in Polk County.

Founded in 1964 and with approximately 60,000 graduates to date, Polk State College continues to grow with the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Haines City-Davenport campus on October 9, 2024.

This region is not only the fastest-growing in Polk County and the State of Florida, but it is also home to a population made up of approximately 50% Hispanic families. Currently, students must travel at least 30 miles round trip to access a college campus.

The opening of this campus will open doors to new opportunities for access to quality higher education close to home.

The Haines City-Davenport Campus will offer programs in Health Sciences, Tourism, Supply Chain and Logistics, Education Career, and an Arts diploma. Additionally, it will house the first interdisciplinary higher education simulation hospital.

The new campus will increase economic opportunities for students by preparing them for highly demanded and well-paying professions, including those in the healthcare sector, where the hourly wage is $31.18, or $66,165 annually. This salary is 71% higher than the average annual income in Polk County.

Polk State has a long-standing reputation for increasing economic opportunities for students and their families. For every $1 a student invests in their education, they receive a cumulative value of $5 in future earnings.

The average annual return on investment for Polk State graduates is 18.7%, surpassing the 30-year average return rate of the U.S. stock market, which is 10.6%.

Approximately 70% of Polk State graduates remain, work, and continue their education in the area, highlighting the significant role the university plays in local economic development.

As we celebrate 60 years and 60,000 graduates, we reflect on the widespread impact of Polk State College. It is very likely that you have received services from professionals who graduated from our university, whether in a medical office, in your children’s classroom, running your favorite local business, or serving as community leaders.

This campus is projected to open in 2026, pending funding, which will provide access to quality higher education and workforce training. Our county is growing, and the expansion of this university is essential for developing economic opportunities and improving the quality of life for students, families, and future generations. We want to ensure that no matter where people live in Polk County, anyone wishing to further their education and training can do so with us.

That’s why we are Polk!

*Equivalent sound pressure level at the operator’s ear, measured according to ISO 22868, dB(A). Reported data for equivalent sound pressure level for the machine has a typical statistical dispersion (standard deviation) of 1 dB(A). **Noise emissions in the environment measured as sound power (LWA) in conformity with EC directive 2000/14/ EC. Reported sound power level for the machine has been measured with the original cutting attachment that gives the highest level. The guaranteed sound power level includes variation in production as well as variation from the test code with 1–3 dB(A). ***Equivalent vibration levels (ahv,eq) at handles, measured according to EN ISO 11806-1 and ISO 22867, m/s². Reported data for equivalent vibration level has a typical statistical dispersion (standard deviation) of 1 m/s².

NOMINAL POWER The EU machinery directive (2006/42/EC) came into force on January 1, 2010, requiring manufacturers to declare the nominal power of engines, in kilowatts (kW). The power rating of the engines indicated is the average net power output during a normal working situations and meets applicable noise regulations (at specified rpm, see owner manual) of a typical production engine for the engine model measured to SAE standard J 1349/ISO 1585. Mass production engines may differ from this value. Actual power output for the engine installed in the final machine will depend on the operating speed, environmental conditions and other variables.

Professional Battery Edgers

Looking for a quiet, emission-free battery edger? The 525iECS offset edger and 525iES straight edger are built with high-quality components and are part of the company’s 40V ecosystem.

A commercial, battery-powered curved shaft edger with performance equivalent to comparable gas edgers. Ideal for light-duty edging with a faster blade speed and better view of blade thanks to offset shaft. Features a metal skid plate for added durability and highly-efficient E-TORQ motor.
