Design II Apr-Jul 1999 Artist´s House

This house was an introduction to the concept of interconnected spaces, techtonic use of materials, walkthough, path composition and views. Also it was a first serious attempt to model a full conceptual preproject in 3D which at the time was not required at all. Indeed it was a novelty and a thing that not even professionals where doing at the time in Venezuela. I did it because of the joy of visualizing my first architectural work in the digital 3D virtual space.

Renders here are the original ones from 1998. Also this first experience was very special to me because the first ever iMac recently released by Steve Jobs that year, was purchased by The Simon Bolivar University for its CADD laboratory. Also the model was made possible by a newly developed software called ArchiDOT or Architectural Design Oriented Tool. It was recently developed by programmer and Architect Hernan Pisani, a graduate USB Architect. This simple but reliable software is still available (It has not evolved much since then) as DCAD Vector Space. At FTAA we still use it for its practicality. At that time, (difficult to believe nowadays) this software was more advanced than AutoCAD in many ways, and was an inpiration for all of us at the University. Here you have the original renders almost untouched, nevertheless for this publication I did a little postproduction in Photoshop .

Design V.1 Apr-Jul 2000

This project was an introduction to urban variables, area-cost restrictions and the apartment-housing subject. It was a lot of fun for me because I explored semileveled floors, spatial relationships and interesting structural solutions. I did tons of renders exploing illumination and materials I did on photoshop, because standard materials were not available at the time. Also I played with a certain facade composition.

Using computers was “not allowed”. It was funny because we students were using computers like nuts, while proffessors were still afraid of them or saw them as toys for kids. We were in the mids of an “imac Fever” so I cheated, and managed to make a simple model , print some basic renders and then handraw over them. Here we have the references I used. With the computing power and the software development of those years they were not so easy to do. Its funny because what we see here seems nowadays very primitive.

This project was an introduction to high rise urban variables, intensive area use and the office/services/commerce subject.

It was challenging for me because I comfronted many limitations, under a very strict and stern proffessor.

He tought us the rigurous practice and responsability over capital and the need for effectiveness, clarity of purpose, and optimal revenue. I inverted my priorities then from plasticity to a very pragmatic design philosophy.

This time there was no time for 3D playing, instead, very rigorous 2d analysis and phisical models were done. To my surprise, the result was the most elegant tower.

Design V.2 Apr-Jul 2000

Luxury Apartment Building This project was an introduction to the apartment subject at a much higher level. Here I explored also with level relationships in a more mature way.

I did not modeled anything 3D in the computer, but only rigurous analisys in 2D. Then I turned obsessed with making a very appealing model, very precise to express every detail. Unfortunately, I lost th track of time and my energy resorces, so when I finished the model I was completely exhausted. I did not have time to finish appropriate plans so I had to draw very rough ones by hand.

Design VI Sep-Dec 2000

Historical Plaza Renovation This urban intervention was an introduction to the urban renovation-landscaping subject. At the time we did this, Plaza la Pastora was a place in Caracas that had suffered deterioration and a certain identity loss. The idea was to take this plaza in front of a relatively old church and revitalize in a modern but respectful way, honouring certain local memorials and at the same time improving a very tortured existing vehicle circulation. Here we see the resulting model.

Design VII Jan-Mar 2001 Urban Mall

This urban mall was a deepening of what we already knew about commercial buildings. This time we had a specialized commercial architect, Prof. Astorga, as a guest professor, who knew every inch of the process, from clients conversations to problem shooting on site. It was really a pleasure being tought by him. We developed skills in area managing, proximity, pedestrian paths, security and commetial standards, technical and logistical issues of all kinds, vehicular impact, and also structural concearns. I felt very satisfied and thankful with the results.

The model was a rough small guide. We concetrated on plans and elevations. As an anecdote, the model survived a very apparatous fall from the hands of one of my teachers. When she picked it up, the model was intact. Here we can see the remnants.

It was very small, like 20 cm long.

Design IX Sep-Dec 2001

This complex was an introduction to the concept of massive urban intervention, office/commercial/ convention complexes, and the concept of urban front composition, masive pedestrian flow and urban interconnection. We had to fit these huge project imbricated with the existing subway lines, and respond directly to significative places like Plaza Venezuela. The results for each one of us were dramatically different. We were given much freedom to propose, since it was a site with special urban variables. It was like a thesis in itself.

The main components of this project were: 1) A huge mall that interconnects directly underground with a massive (The Main in Caracas) subway station. 2) An institutional building to hold certain goverment buildings. 3) Big conventions center. 4) Three office towers. 5) Place for high density parking.

This exercise was an introduction to the concept of institutional and historic responsability. Also it was about expositive spaces and its rigurous requirments. We had to provide an urban front for the most historic plaza in Caracas, and probably the country, namely, Plaza Bolivar, previously Plaza Mayor. This place is the very foundational point for the whole city, by its very founder the spanish conqueror, Diego de Lozada, in 1567. So the commision was to develop an addition to the existing Museum of Sacred Art, providing a very serious and respectful space to hold the countrie’s both antique and contemporary sacred art collections.

The building had to implement a touristic attraction vocation, and also should serve as a place for pilgrimage to christians, especially catholics from all over Venezuela and abroad. Here I show the model and the renders of the interior spaces.

The plans (not showing them here) were realtively simple, but arduous to achieve at that time. The building had a contrasting appearance, sticking to a modern, very contained character. The main articulator was a central ramp that connected the main levels. Every gallery had its own distinctive form, proportion and sequence, in a way that would not lead to boredom, but also in a very serious way, to preserve sobriety. Facing the busy street there was a museum shop, while the corner was treated as a negative volume for pedestrians to pass through.

So the main idea was to create a big walktrough between the station´s exit, under and over ground, and take all these pedestrians to the other side of the lot. To do that a high density, covered attraction center was placed at the other end, and in the middle a green, progressively sloped terrace, that went through very clear commercial clusters. To the left of this possible path, three L shaped office towers, provide rithm while holding over them, as pillars of a bridge, a gigantic and panoramic convention center.

Design X Jan-Mar 2002

Post Graduate Student Residences at USB Sartenejas This exercise was a rigurous exercise about costs and institutional presence. Also we were facing many topography challenges that had to be creatively dealt with.

The program was to provide accomodations to graduate students, at a reasonable cost, but appealing enough. We were required to show some sensitivity regarding the looks and certain “luxury� features to provide graduate students, both single and married. So we had to separate both kinds, and also save space for a certain amount of especial suites for regular and international professors.

Areas were tightly controlled, but there was freedom on other aspects. The project is organized in two service modules with varied uses and three sloped residential blocks.

Each two appartments constituted a cube, wich was then arranged in an escalator-like pattern to resolve the difference between the optimal view and terrain inclination.

This was my first intensive 3D model ever, and given the power of available technology then, it was a great, great achievement. Every render was patienly waited and every pixel, every vector was carefully and economically managed.

Also the use of time was a very good experience.

I had it on time, all plans, models, and renders at a reasonable quality, meeting all requirements.

It was a great phisical effort to finish it, but at the same time, it was a pleasurable experience. The full plans and elevations are not shown but here you have the final explanatory presentation layouts in Spanish.

As we see in the images, the ground level is reserved for parking, solved in two half-levels, gathering in their difference the pedestrian traffic mostly at the slightly cracked “spine”, were we find stairs. Along the same space we find long ramps at the terminals with the same purpose.

Poetics & Order, The New USB Architectural Career Headquarters The proposed project is located to substitute the current building for the architecture career of USB Sartenejas, and it is located on the same site.

The building functioning today is somewhat precarious although noble in terms of its long years of service. Nevertheless it is a recycled industry barn, very old and in need of renovation.

I thought that I could design a whole new idea for a complex, rich in terms of variety and services, not only for Architecture but for alternative activities for other careers at the campus.

I thought also about how inspirational a place to study design should be. It could respond to a need for a more artistic approach, in contrast with the stern character of the rest of the buildings in the campus.

On the other side of the spine there are more compartimentalized spaces like auditoriums, correction rooms, modeling workshops and classrooms.

USB is a very technical institution, more like a technological Intitute. The new building could provide a contrasting and balancing experience for holding architecture as a more humanistic discipline.

Nevertheless, I desired that the complex had also a very balanced expression, a gentle appearance, but at the same time character and presence.

Making the 3D model we see rendered here was a intensive effort, because of computer power available at the time. It required also the collaboration of at least three people to develop the model wich hopefully were inpired enough to help me unconditionally. Render times were very long and we had to make multiple tests before each one of them. Nowadays this could be an instantaneous editor preview! Much of the modeling and all the rendering and plans were done with Venezuelan sofware DCAD Vector Space, partly developed at USB and created by architect and programmer Hernán Pisani.

On one end we find bigger classrooms and at the other a covered plaza that gathers a cafeteria, toilets, a big exposition room and administrative offices.

Around the exposition galleries, there is a terrace in which alumni can gather and take a break from activities, while enjoying a great view of the mountain.

To the upper left of the illustration, we see a reading room, half under ground, and over it an uncovered theater-auditorioum.

Contrary to a superficial look, the building was developed almost entirely from inside out, based on space sequence, views and internal experiences.

This work was inspired among others, on the great colombian Architect Rogelio Salmona. I highly recommend a visit to his “Biblioteca Virgilio Barco” Project in Bogota, Colombia.

The first level consists of a series of galleries for displaying design or artistic work, open to the public eye that can be circulating through the “spine” half a level above. Note that the show walls of the galleries form aproximately 45 degrees with the direction of walkthough, so being the spine half level up, everything displayed in those walls is completely exposed to passing students, proffessors or visitors. This provides maximum feedback between those who show their work there and the rest of the school.

To the upper right corner we see a cylindrical structure wich is the sculpture workshop and patio.

All that being said the main feature of this proyect is a series of large scale design workshops, what I like to call the “Design Cathedrals” open to the woods, formed under a series of steelwood roofed structures, that raise and curve letting the light and the image of the forest into the Design teaching area.

Grade Project

Poetics & Order, The New USB Architectural Career Headquarters So the concept is to divide activities on both sides of the wall: On is for design and work, the other is for showing, correcting and discussing.

Below, more methodical practices as well as complemmentary courses for other carrers could take place.

In the plan below we can see the the “Spine”.

It consists in a multi/leveled, panoramic, central circulation device, from wich the material displayed at the galleries below is evident. The permeable enclosure is made of imbricated wooden scales, that provide shade and shelter, while permitting air circulation. This is very important because in Venezuela the weather is tropical and relatively confortable throughout the year, tending to high tempreatures.

cool inside and the little holes, on sunny days, proyect light dots all over the spine’s floor. Here all photographs, images and renders are the originals from 2002-2003.

Another great feature was the covered plaza, which gathered the main authorities with students in a friendly way. Also the complex could be used for movie projections, expositions and events not necesarily in direct relation to architecure but as a service provided by the Department to the whole Campus. The Coordinator´s office, equivalent to a principal or a president of the Architecture Career, has a great panoramic view over the main terrace.

The main intention with these great structural efforts and great hights, was to achieve a certain sense of “temple” for design learning. Also a tribute to the great forest which has a comparable elevation.

Professional Practice Early Works 2003-2005 2002/PDVSA Situational Room Interior Design

A preproject done in team with my friend Arch. Carlos Rengifo. We were students at the time, but we were fortunate enough to design for one of the leading oil companies in Venezuela. We had to propose furniture and acoustic finishes, multi-media backup and a certain luxury styling.

2003/ Sidewalks and Urban Furnishing/ Av. Fco. de Miranda/

Alcaldía de Chacao, Caracas.

This was my first job as a graduate student. In team we modeled new wide and sectorized sidewalks for the Fco. de Miranda Avenue in Caracas, as well as urban furniture, signs, kiosks, lightposts and human scales. It was also my first contact with Cinema 4D sofware.

2003/High-Res Photographic Composite/ Fco. de Miranda Avenue Urban Front/Alcaldía de Chacao Caracas.

In team with a senior architect and three more graduate students, we did the complete photographic survey in high resolution of the Fco. de Miranda Av. urban front, for the mayoralty cathastral services. For this job I was systematically trained in photoshop software , and gained a deeper comprehention and capability.

VITO FERRERO portfolio of works 2004/Vehicular-Pedestrian Bridge in Valencia-Venezuela /Grupo AM/

Arch. Roberto Ameneiro.

Still in 2004 Venezuela did not have widespread access to 3D technology, so I was a rare case of someone that worked entirely in 3D. So Arch. Roberto Ameneiro called for me, to develop a model of a circular-section bridge with variable helix development and tilted section. All these dificulties I had to get perfectly fit because the model was not only for renders but to actually construct the bridge. From the model, wich had a high level of precision, design decisions, sections & elevations were taken.

an innovative practice then. So I learned to work with great precision in AutoCAD, coordinating with all engineering disciplines. Also I aquired a great sense of scale, since I could relate the dimensional perception in site with the technical drawings at office. I supervised (witnessed would be more appropriate) all works, machinery and human relations at site.

Also my knowledge in Cinema4D Software and Photoshop deepened, counting with unconditional support by my coworkers. A huge learning experience.

I’ll be thankful forever with my friends Carlos Agell Sr. and Jr. for their willingness to teach, help and share every experience they had at their architectural practice in Caracas. The renders and plan below were an individual task asigned to me particularily.

This job was the fist after my graduation. An already graduated friend called me to help him because they were flooded with work in their newly established architecural office. So I joined the team and proposed in flash time, (Almost just a day) a concept for a stand to promote a new service IBM branding was offering called “On demand Day”. Also we were commitioned to construct it and transport it to the expo on time, so this was a very exciting, short, and also exhausting job. Despite the rush we had it on time!

The same architectural office that hired me as a student to work on the Fco. de Miranda photographical survey called me again, a little later, some moths after my graduation to work on this then new exciting project they had. It was a luxury housing development in a private site which holded a relatively old house that had to be preserved. The project implied a huge landwork intervention with great contention rock walls, water treatment, reforestation and lansdcaping. On this job I had to do the landwork survey analitically, to feed a GPS based site implementation,

2007/ “Jesus Obrero” Agronomical Institute

This was a beautiful project I did in association with my father. I could write an entire article about this project. In this opportunity, I participated actively in the Masterplan and the development of each one of the buildings. Teamwork flowed smoothly. Also the client was very special, the Jesuit Comunity of Venezuela, they were creatiing an agronomical institute for the devlopment of a poor area. The professional fees for this project were partly donated by us.

The final designs resulted incredibly affordable and functional. The client was very happy. I hope for this institution the biggest success in their social service for people in need.

2003/Industrial Dining Facility/ INTEVEP Research Center/ 3D Model and Renderings/ Late 2004-2005/ Luxury Housing Devolopment at Alto Hatillo Caracas. -Collaboration-

I was reluctant to work at or for my father’s office at first. My vision of architecure and design is completely different that his. Nevertheless this first job together turned to be a very pleasant one, and he was very satisfied with the looks of his design. It was the first time in my life in which I saw my own father as a “client”.

While I was working at Agell TA, my father, Arch. Gustavo Ferrero Gomez called me to make some renders and presentation material for an exposition he had.

Late 2007-2008/ Montego Bay Stadium, Jamaica.

A project for a sports complex that included a Grand Stand and diverse complementary services. I was commisioned to design and develop those complementary services such as entry features, tiket booths and on-the-way shops, all three shown right up. . The design below is from my father, Arch Gustavo Ferrero Gomez. Models and renders were my commission.

The service features repeated themselves throughout the complex. I did also a set of basic 3D models and renders we can see below.

2013/Renders and Collaborative Design/Proposal for Cable CarStations, La Paz, Bolivia.

Project done in extraordinary time restraints. In association with Grupo AM. During the development of these renders I collaborated directly on the facade design, proposing various options, many more than the ones shown here. The model was memory intensive and many render resources were used such as global illumination, fur objects for grass, photo compositing and 2D RPC figures “home made”. A great experience in rendering and exploring the capabilities of Cinema 4D render engine.

I participated directly as head designer in two of them, once that I had the experience to manage all the standards. The responsabilities included models, renders, technical coordination, some budget work, material purchase and permits, supervising construction, and hold responsability to the owner.

LG Image/Home Theater Products Stand Design and Renders, for Caracas, Valencia, Maracay

This project consisted on three small fluvial port facility complexes, mainly to establish military and human presence in endangered zones of the Amazon.

I started participating as a collaborator, but in time, I ended being leading architect and coordinator.

Render for Office Building in Las Mercedes, Caracas

The agencies were finished on time, but the experience was EXHAUSTING since the newly constructed mall pressured at maximum to be able to inaugurate. A great learning experience on timing, logistics, human relationships and stress managment.

At the time the pseudo-communist political climate in the country was boiling and the project was subject to many power struggles inside and outside INEA. Due to this political pressures, the project was progressively turning economically inviable until my superiors decided to abandon it at great cost.

Nevertheless this project was finished under a high level of excellence and great professional good will.

2009-2010/ “Banco Federal” Agencies

These were a series of projects done in an extended period of time. The office (TST) was commissioned to design a certain number of bank agencies, wich had strict security standards. Supervising in site was also included. Some renders were needed but they were not critical. We did them for client communication on finishes, colors... etc.

For this jobs I had to travel to some other cities in the Venezuelan territory to supervise and make site surveys.

This project came to be a huge lesson on how human facts and politics do affect a project, and how a great deal of people can be affected by decisions from above. Also it was a great experience technically, since many considerations had to be taken due to the isolation of the site, transport restrictions, costs and availability of materials, equipment and personel. Also on the visuals and presentation level, it was a great challenge, and a very enjoyable experience as well. One of the most exciting things was to travel to the Amazon and visit the site for measures and diverse client-local authorities conversations.

Also the privilege to know the Orinoco River.

All renders were done in Cinema 4D and Photoshop, with great care, at the top of our capacity due to severe timing restrictions.

Peugeot ALLCAPE HD An exciting adventure in design.

While working at my first serious job at an architectural office in Caracas, I was told about the

motorcycles, yatchs, rally cars, high tech furniture design and believe it or not, sporty baby strollers.

2007 Peugeot Design Concourse. I had some designs of my own including a new version for a 330 series for BMW, completely fictional, purely for the pleasure of designing and rendering. In the same fashion, at first, I began the design of the Allscape HD as an entertainment, but in time, ideas began to flow smoothly.

The need for personality and sportiveness, united with a certain tough character, also made me think about taking other references like the G/Shock watches from Casio and gear and equipment from CAT and Victorinox.

Step by step the design took shape, and finally I decided that this was for sure: I had to enter. I recieved the backup of many wonderful people, including my friends at Agell TA, my family, friends from school who did a wonderful job at advertising the concept, and above all, support of all kinds from my then girlfriend, now my wife, Ana Gabriela.

The need for toughness was in part because of an intention to make a statement in which green products should not be for “pussies” and that taking a stand for the enviroment, does not necessarily involves being a tree hugger. (Nevertheless I highly recomend hugging trees :) The posiblity of a vehicle with interchagable tires, and variable suspension, also seduced me.

The Peugeot ALLSCAPE HD came from a dream that I had, (and I still have it) that a sportive car should be also very ecological. The carbon footprint of a green design, should be minimal, especially for a suburban vehicle. This concept is very unusual. It is inspired on motorcycles, mountain bikes, motocross

I thought that the maximum efficiency could be achieved through light and strong materials, and somehow, like Leonardo Da Vinci, I could inspire myself in nature to achieve a goal. What better for an ecological vehicle?

So what if this car had bones like an an-

imal? If I wanted it to be like an animal, potent, free, indomable and fast, I should use bones to give it strength. Then, if it had bones, he needed also muscle, so I thought about the power train: a Hibrid System, (HD) in which the main source of power was not centralized but evenly distributed between five sources: a frontal positioned V4 natural gas engine and four 25kw electrical motorbrakes. So the main effect should be achieved by the Power weight ratio, bacause the main load in this car were the passengers.

The rest was an aluminum alloy core, and a carbon fiber bone body.

So once having the muscle, I started tho think about the legs, then my passion for BMW Motorcicles came to me.

I would do the frontal suspension like the one of a formula one car, in incremented-section carbonfiber, but the rear transmition, would constitute also the

suspension system.

Then I crafted two diagonal paralever systems for each rear wheel, giving the car very interesting properties in its internal architecture. So, my animal already had Bones, muscle and legs, but he needed also skin to gain elegance, better aerodynamics, and a certain presence, so I thought about high density plexiglass to cover it. This would give me the opportunity to provide the driver and passenger a complete view of the outdoor envronment. This skin would be done in plaques or pieces, like if it was rhinoceros or a dinosaur. The plaques, could be removable, interchangable, and recyclable. The possibility to change the look and aerodynamics of the car through them was in my mind, but timing and effort economy leaded me to leave that possibility to a later time. So the next tasks were developing an interior, and designing a set of wheels good enough for this athlete. So I saw many designs from NIKE, and many car interiors, like the one of the Bugatti Veiron.

All seemed excellent to me but I had an idea very particular. In those days, cars did not commonly have an infotainment unit. In fact, at the time, I had not hear

about this term before, so I cam out with the word myself. I do not know if the term was taken from my design or if the term was already created. In any case, I used it. They also did not have usb ports or digital dashboards. so I put all those features. There was not a shift changer but levers at the drivewheel.

day including weekends mostly at night hours, while still working at the office regularily. To meet all those goals I had to use rigurous use of time through project mangment techniques I learned at the University.

Also the need to present the engine and motorbrakes went on so I spent hours and hours making tests on the appearance of the Peugeot Insignia over the “hood” while showing the V4 sign. A very tough decision came when I did the twobrace branched rims. Nevertheless did it and I think part of the succes of the design laid on its innovative and strange appearance.

So the model had to be developed based on the desired views and adjusted on the go. Each single part was sheduled to be finished in a certain time. For the whole project I had three months, and from those three months I just had three four-hour sessions a day for weekends and one on weekdays. I worked Monday to Friday from eight o’clock to twelve o’clock am and on weekends I worked on morning from 8 in the morning to noon, on the afternoon from two to six, and at night from eight to midnight.

The three months were divided in percentages. The subdivision was, a golden formula I use for every conceptual work I do. It is the result of multiplying the whole time available by 0.618 (Inverse Golden Ratio) and the bigger resultant part again by the same number, the results are irrational numbers but making an average they result 40:40:20. Once I had in my mind all these design concepts and decisions I started to draw technical drawings. I did a few measures on AutoCAD, and VectorWorks over sketch references. The design was finally comming to life. From that I started to position the plans in 3D space on Cinema 4D, and using the wonderful Hypernurbs feature, step by step the modeling came to reality. The time pressure was very hard, and I had to use every single

Also Tavy Pasieka from 3D attack gave me an interview in the site and the on-line publication. Later the work was awarded with a CG choice award from the 40% Purely conceptual work, 40% developement, modeling and rendering, and 20% Postproduction and presentation.

So it was hard work. I dedicated myself so much because the oportunity was incredible. The first prize was a trip to Frankfurt Automotive Saloon, and the Peugeot prototyping team was going to reproduce a full scale model of the winning entry to present it as part of the showroom. I had an eagerness to win and maybe find some opportunity in Europe be it to study or work at some internship. Unfortunately my eagerness developed into a deviation of Peugeot “cahier d’exercises”. Ultimately, I did not take into account many of the requirements of the contest, and they told me, I even developed many aspects that were not required. The thing is that I took this project as being alive, and I could not cut its natural development. Peugeot’s president talked about the entries in the podium and said that the ALLSCAPE HD had extraordinary qualities and they wanted to recognize that effort. Nevertheless they could not make it win because it lacked simplicity, which was a key requirement for winning. Unfortunately, my prototype being inspired by motorcycles, showed openly

its mechannical parts, and honored the internal engineering logic of the power train and the structure. So I felt really sad about not winning, but then really happy at the reality of how far this work went.

Nevertheless the Allscape attracted numerous attention in the internet, it was on the main sites about car design, and even Maxon Computer, the maker of Cinema 4D, -software that I used for modeling and rendering-, was interested in the images. So the ALLSCAPE HD ended being the front cover for the MAXON Cinema 4D official site in the engineering and indutrial design section, and they asked me for the original 3D scene to be the standard CINEBENCH hardware test program that year. It is to this day an official member of the automotive and the engineering galleries on the site. Also, C4DES the magazine we see above did a very nice interview on the -making of- among others. They asked me if they could collaborate with me making new renders to make the article more attractive. I said yes. in collaboration with C. Agell, wonderful new renders were done.

The Idea The Dream of a Solar Sail Yacht.

Since I discovered the Tesla automotive brand, and Tesla Energy, my passion for alternative electric vehicles has been “in crecendo”. I’ve felt a very special inspiration and hope about a clean and sustainable future. I thought about this project since long ago, and it was “frozen” in some very rough drawings in my sketchbook. Secretly, my intention in studying the master in Industrial Design, was in part to open the opportunity to develop the solar sail yacht

project, and to start to exercise my designer´s hand, outside the realm of architecture. It also had to do with accomplishing a self made promise to step into a certain art and poetics I feel for boats and navigation, and a new luxury concept not attached fosil fuel consumtion, but in new technology maverick investment and risk taking, energy that harness the enrgetic source per excellence, namely: the sun.

Besides my artistic apetites, there was the need for formal training and sytematic technical knowldge to finally achieve a certain level of feasibility. In that sense the Master in Industrial Design was not only an eye opener, but

the perfect toolbox for other multiple projects that know crowd my desk, working with associates and friends.

The yacht also presented a marvelous opportunity to exercise my architectural knowledge, tweak standards and play with certain features that traditional “on ground” architecture does not provide. So the new and the not so new knowledge could be integrated perfectly.

Beyond flux of space, Straight, Vertical, Bright.

As we apply them to space and time they get (dis)torsioned.

For each principle there is a cycle, which cannot be accelerated nor prolonged indefinetely without unbalance..

Hence, principles constitute guides and references, above human subjectivity, opinions, seasons, epochs.

Principles, trascend application, interpretation and every code of conduct.

That’s why they are free from tradition or science.

They transcend thought permeating the Cosmos in a Silent Mystery.

With a contemporary character, this artwork proposal is clearly inspired on the traditional japanese art of haiku, freeing itself from rigid canon, but respectfully taking the original form as an initial point, for an up to date poetic and plastic craft.

Framed with sobriety and simplicity, this haiku-inspired art is a witness of a transformation in consciousness, inspiring the elevation to new horizons of peace, within ourselves and others.
