Quality Lock and Security
It’s been 28 years
since Clay McCarthy and his wife Kimberly opened their security business in Vista. In 2002, they purchased their first building in our historic downtown, which allowed them to open their retail location at 340 E. Broadway. The team at Quality Lock and Security Services does their best to cover all your physical security and locking hardware needs. The company is made up of 10 employees who service all of San Diego County, Lower Riverside and Orange County, as well as greater California for Southern CA-Edison (SCE) and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). The company focuses on commercial and industrial clients such as Siemens, Thermo Fisher, Tyco, JMG, Sony, ADT, Callaway and Watkins Manufacturing, just to name a few. Typical services range from replacing mailbox locks to installing CCTV, automating doors with electronic lock systems and installing life safety hardware and high security systems. They also perform the standard re-keying of locks for businesses as employees come and go. Through Siemens, Quality Lock provides security compliance and maintenance services for SCE and PG&E.
“We work hard to stay current on what new technology offers in terms of products and systems,” says Clay. “Keys are becoming a thing of the past as keyless technology becomes the new norm. We often work in partnership with tech companies like Siemens, ADT, Stanley, JMG, Tyco and others to install and maintain the latest security systems to protect companies and institutions from the numerous threats they face every day.” Clay and Kimberly credit the company’s ongoing success to years of building relationships with customers. “I used to work all over the area in my service truck, helping people as a Service Tech back in the day,” he says. “Before opening my own business in 1994, I worked for Pro-Tec Lock and Safe in Oceanside for eight years. Because I got to know people so well in local businesses and in the security industry, it was natural that many of them have become lifelong friends,” he says. “For instance, Sharon Kinikin has been our office manager for more than 26 years and she is part of the foundation of our success. Ten years ago, we were extremely fortunate to have Eric “Buzz” Reed join our team. Buzz quickly moved from journeyman installer to General Manager. Buzz’s daughter Alexis Panchevre has also become invaluable to us as she helps Sharon and works as my Assistant,” Clay adds. Buzz’s leadership also allows Clay and Kimberly to concentrate on developing and maintaining the long-term relationships with SCE and PG&E. “We are truly blessed to have an amazing staff and team of co-workers,” says Kimberly. Clay also believes in supporting his community and staying involved. He has sat on several boards at the City level and appreciates the opportunity to be part of the team that is guiding the revitalization and growth of Vista’s downtown development. Clay and Kimberly have a vested interest in Vista as property owners and landlords. Today, the McCarthy’s own their office building and two other buildings on Broadway. “It’s been exciting to see everything grow up around us through the years,” says Clay. “Vista has been a great place to live and work,” he adds. “At first, I was frustrated to see San Marcos, then Carlsbad and even Oceanside really take off and grow. But now, Vista is finally coming into its own.”
As local homeowners since 1992, Clay and Kimberly raised their two children, Cassidy and Quinn here while Clay coached Little League for eight years. This gave him the chance to meet so many more wonderful people, many of whom have become lifelong friends who have helped him along the way. “People have introduced me to bankers and investors that have given me opportunities to achieve more than I ever thought possible,” he says. “With the help of family, friends, colleagues and connections, we’ve been able to achieve everything we have. We enjoy helping people, other businesses and organizations grow and we really care about our community.” he says. “Kimberly and I only see a very bright future for Vista.”
