Here are some highlights…

WORTHING THEATRES

Gardening guru Charlie Dimmock leads the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk at Worthing’s Connaught Theatre (Dec 6 – Jan 4) where she is joined by Heart Breakfast’s Tom and Jack to tell the traditional pantomime story of a boy who sells his family cow for beans. There will also be traditional ghost gags and plenty of sing-along songs when dotty Dame Trott invites the audience to join the yuletide frolics.

Meanwhile Christmas could be cancelled if TV and West End star Claire Sweeney as the wicked Ice Queen gets her wish in the dazzling production of Santa Claus The Musical at Worthing’s Pavilion Theatre (Dec 11 – Jan 5). Packed with beloved Christmas hits the feelgood show transforms the theatre into a winter wonderland complete with Santa, Jack Frost and a cast of dancing penguins, polar bears and singing crows.

Music-lovers can look forward to the Band of HM Royal Marines (Dec 6) performing their annual concert of carols and military music or enjoy a nostalgic afternoon of organ music and singalong festive favourites at John Mann’s Christmas Concert (Dec 15). For fans of musical theatre there are Christmas classics and yuletide highlights from the London and New York productions of Scrooge, Martin Guerre and many more in Beyond the Barricade at Christmas (Dec 15) or for a treat between Christmas and New Year the new show for That’ll Be the Day at Christmas (Dec 27) is filled with comedy, music and hits from the 50s-70s.

There are also blockbuster films throughout December running into January. Disney’s enchanting tale Frozen (U) opens on December 6, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (12A tbc) opens on December 13 and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (15 tbc) opens on December 27, ensuring there is plenty to keep you entertained throughout the Christmas period.
