Kristiansand is Southern Norway’s largest city and traffic hub. There is plenty to do with attractions such as Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park, the new theatre and concert hall Kilden Performing Arts Centre, museums and galleries. Outstanding restaurants and buzzing activity on Fiskebrygga quay, a great atmosphere at Torvet, excellent shopping, a wander through the old district Posebyen among white wooden buildings or lazy days by the sea make it easy to have a great time in the capital of Southern Norway.
Do you enjoy swimming off delightful beaches, canoeing, boat trips, camping or visiting idyllic outlying harbours? Raet National Park was created in 2016 to protect the special natural area which extends from the Grimstad along the entire Arendal coastal strip to Lyngør in Tvedestrand.

BRUFJELL Brufjell is in Åna-Sira just outside Flekkefjord. The place is famous for its very special potholes, and you can enjoy panoramic views of the whole coast on your way there. There is a marked path to the potholes. Remember to bring sturdy footwear, plenty to drink and your camera.
is a stretch of coast between Lillesand and Kristiansand. Shielded from the ocean by the islands, islets and skerries of the archipelago, boats can sail safely in sheltered waters. There is buzzing activity here in summer when the cabins and holiday homes in the area fill up with holidaymakers and boating enthusiasts heading out to sea. A sightseeing boat operates a daily service with daily departures between Lillesand and Kristiansand during summer.
LYNGØR This island community, which is situated between Risør and Tvedestrand, has been voted the best preserved village in Europe. In the Age of Sail, Lyngør’s harbour buzzed with activity, but today there are only about 80 permanent residents left on the islands. The place comes alive in summer, however. Ferry connection to the mainland with several daily departures.

Round trip 3 There are several great summit walks in Åmli, for example to Lindestadknuten (858 metres). Well-marked paths and magnificent views. Dalen Hotel in Dalen is well worth a visit. With its ‘dragon style’ architecture, it looks like it comes straight out of a fairy tale.

The two big airports in Southern Norway are Kjevik in Kristiansand and Torp outside Sandefjord. KLM operates a direct service from Amsterdam to Kjevik, Widerøe operates a service from Copenhagen and London and Wizz Air to Gdansk. Torp has an extensive schedule of flights. In addition to KLM, Widerøe and Norwegian, budget airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air also fly to Torp from several destinations in Europe. Both airports have good connections to the biggest airports in Norway. The biggest car rental companies also have offices at both airports.
The trip continues over the Haukelifjell mountains to Røldal and, from there, Odda, innermost in the Hardangerfjord, is just a short distance away. You can choose between several routes to Bergen, but we recommend the new tunnel under the Folgefonna glacier. Take the ferry across the Hardangerfjord from Årsnes to Gjermundshamn and follow the road to Bergen.

‘The white towns’ along the coast of Southern Norway are characteristic of this part of Norway. The towns are known for their narrow streets and white wooden houses in idyllic locations by the sea, and Risør is the town with the best-preserved wooden houses. The town has a rich artistic scene and the archipelago is the town’s ‘park’. At Stangholmen Lighthouse at the very edge of the ocean, you can enjoy great food and drink and explore Risør’s archipelago.
