Testimonials

“The professionalism and quality of the staff at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, the Sheraton, the Washington Pavilion, rivals and even exceeds bigger cities where you would pay more for less service. Fifteen years of experience and I had never had an event run so smoothly. Our small meeting never felt ‘small’, and the summit certainly was not just another date in their calendars . You sincerely know you’re more than a number when the General Manager of the convention center is helping move boxes for your program. You become as much a part of their team as they become of yours. We hope that future events can be scheduled in such a welcoming city.”

“The Summit League basketball tournament has been a resounding success in Sioux Falls. From the first year in 2009, the tournament has set record attendance and we continue to see a substantial commitment from everyone involved in our championships. The level of success we have achieved in Sioux Falls gives our league a solid base to build in the years ahead. We are excited the Summit League Basketball Championships will be hosted in Sioux Falls through 2014."

– Edward M. Shipley, Senior Manager, Biotechnology Industry Organization

– Tom Douple, Summit League Commissioner.

“From the beginning you had vision and determination to host a memorable conference; YOU accomplished that and more… CONGRATULATIONS! The 2011 National Conference held in Sioux Falls, has registered in my “history book of meeting planning” as warm, friendly, hospitable, unique, heart-felt, enriching, intense and…one of the BEST conferences Volunteers of America has offered in a long time!”

2001 S. Summit Avenue Sioux Falls, SD 57197 ph: 800.727.2844 or 605.274.4546 augie.edu

Augustana College provides a perfect setting for summer youth camps, education conferences and church gatherings. Perfect not only because of our location in the heart of America, in one of its greatest small cities, but also because of our beautiful, lush, 100-acre campus with great facilities, comfortable residence halls, exceptional food service and gracious people. The College has a long history of hosting a variety of summer activities and events and welcomes your organization to campus.

Because our mission is education, we specialize in providing accommodations for youth activities of all kinds. Every summer the College hosts a music camp and sports camps including football, basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. We can provide sleeping accommodations for 300 with 150 double occupancy rooms. We often provide lodging for traveling soccer teams who come to Sioux Falls, one of America’s soccer hotbeds, to compete in regional and national tournaments. In addition to having a variety of playing fields and courts, the College’s athletic and recreation facility includes a swimming pool, racquetball courts and fitness center. The abundance of academic facilities on campus provides an ideal location for education conferences. Many of our classrooms are equipped with the latest in research and teaching technologies. Larger lecture rooms, a recital hall, theatre and chapel also provide alternative settings to meet your needs.

The Madsen Center, home to the College’s social science division, contains a variety of classrooms, seminar rooms and laboratories. Two 30-station computer labs are located in the building’s lower level. Morrison Commons is the student center. It contains the main dining room, which seats 400 for dinner or 500 for receptions, and dramatically overlooks the center of campus. The building also contains multiple meeting rooms that are designed to accommodate large and small groups. Augustana’s Edith Mortenson Center is a newly-renovated facility that contains a 274-seat theatre, an actor’s studio and the Wagoner Student Street, a perfect setting for small to mid-sized gatherings. The College’s athletic and recreation facility, the Elmen Center, contains the Hall Sports Forum which has seating for 4,000 and four basketball courts as well as a swimming pool and multi-purpose room. The College’s athletic programs compete at the NCAA Division II level.

It’s located in the heart of downtown Sioux Falls, on Phillips Ave. It’s a gorgeous place, with spectacular art and wonderful ambiance. We think you’ll agree with the 10,000 customers who have already visited – the gallery and its art are fabulous! Our art comes from a time before the railroad and telegraph, when everything was hand-crafted and everyone was an artisan to some extent. No matter the artists’ tribe or band, you’ll find our art to be incomparable. Blood Run National Historic Landmark Blood Run National Historic Landmark is just a short drive from Prairie Star Gallery in Sioux Falls. At first glance, the Blood Run National Historic Landmark (designated in 1970) looks like other hilly, wooded river bottom land - extraordinarily beautiful. But several things mark it as unique. First, it is like a natural island in a sea of residential and commercial development a few miles southeast of Sioux Falls straddling the Big Sioux River in Iowa and South Dakota. Second, on close and educated examination, there are signs of past human habitation everywhere on the forest floor and meadowlands. In fact, this is one of the oldest sites of long-term human habitation in the United States. Third, the site has been identified by the National Park Service in 2000 as having national importance worthy of Park development. The river, abundant wildlife and wood for fuel, fertile flood plains, availability of catlinite (pipestone) and protection from winds made the area a crossroads of Native American civilization from 1300 - 1700 AD. Occupants were primarily Oneota Indigenous Peoples, including Omaha, Ioway, Oto and Yankton Sioux Tribes. These tribes combined hunting and gathering with agriculture and lived in semi-permanent sites. By 1700, Blood Run was a significant cultural center for ceremonies, trade, and social purposes and frequented at times by as many as 6000 Oneota Native Americans. Several possible reasons for site abandonment around 1750 are debated, and might be resolved with additional research. Burial mounds, storage caches, and signs of earthen enclosures remain. Some items of pottery, tools, trade goods and jewelry have been placed in safekeeping and more on private land need protection. The site is a time capsule of Indigenous culture. No other Oneota site of such size and integrity is known to exist in the United States.

Motor Coach Regulations

Becoming acquainted with South Dakota motor coach regulations and doing some pre-trip planning will save time for a pleasant tour. 1. If your vehicle consumes special fuel (diesel or liquid petroleum gas), you may purchase a special fuel user’s temporary trip permit for $20. It is valid until you leave the state of South Dakota. If you plan to operate in South Dakota on a regular basis, you may file an application for a special fuel user’s license with the Department of Revenue and Regulation. If you are licensed under IFTA program in your base state, South Dakota will honor that license. 2. If a vehicle is not displaying apportioned plates from an IRP State, the carrier can purchase a temporary trip permit (Highway Use Receipt) from the Department of Public Safety for a $15 fee. Temporary trip permits may be obtained by calling the South Dakota Permit Center at (605) 698-3925. South Dakota will honor the IRP plate and cab card as long as South Dakota is indicated on the cab card. For More Regulation Information: South Dakota Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Section 118 W.
