At the gateway to the Sacramento River Trail, Turtle Bay is a 300-acre gathering place featuring the Sundial Bridge, a museum, forestry and wildlife center, arboretum, and botanical garden. Over 39,000 acres of recreation with a crystal clear lake, four waterfalls, pristine mountain creeks and 75+ miles of hiking, equestrian, and biking trails. Built in 1945, and considered the greatest engineering feat of its time. Take a tour to learn about the history, construction, and how it supplies water and power for California today. Six miles west of Redding, a row of old, half-ruined brick buildings remind passing motorists that Shasta City, the lusty "Queen City" of California’s northern mining district, once stood on this site. Constructed in 1915, it was the first reinforced-concrete bridge for cars over the Sacramento River. Drivers used this bridge until 1997, when the Lake Redding Bridge replaced it.

This 417-foot concrete bridge was the first of its kind in North America, creating picturesque views and a looping path on the Sacramento River Trail. The highest point atop the mountainous spine separating Keswick Reservoir from Shasta Lake City. This peak offers expansive views of the Three Shastas: Shasta Dam, Lake Shasta, and Mount Shasta.
