What is Taste Isle of Ma n?

Taste Isle of Man is an independently assessed quality assurance scheme which recognises establishments providing consistently high quality dining.

The Taste initiative is part of a national quality assessment scheme benchmarked throughout the British Isles. As such, participating venues are assessed on the full dining experience offered to you, the customer. While the emphasis is firmly on the quality of food, the assessors also look out for warmth of welcome, service and hospitality, cleanliness and a commitment to the use of local produce.

The scheme incorporates many different styles of dining experience and this guide contains five different categories, ‘Restaurants’, ‘Cafés & Tearooms’, ‘Pubs & Bars’, ‘Takeaways’ and ‘Street Food’ – so no matter what you are looking for, there will be a great option for you.

Awards Through Taste Isle of Man, eateries are awarded ‘quality assured’ or ‘highest quality assured’ accolades in recognition of the first-rate dining experiences that they offer visitors.

Taste Highest Quality Assured Taste Quality Assured Harvest Look out for the special plaques which identify members of the Harvest Isle of Man Scheme.

Establishments will be accredited members of the Taste quality assurance scheme and will also have requested to be assessed against the Harvest Isle of Man criteria because

the use of local produce is a valued part of their ethos.

You can expect great service, food, drink and surroundings with fresh local produce.

The criteria validates the use of produce which has been caught, reared, brewed or processed in the Isle of Man and the assessors also check that staff can explain the use of local produce to customers.

After a major refurbishment, the new Tickethall opened on 11th March 2017 and became disabled friendly, with a lift to the main restaurant, disabled toilets on the ground floor and upstairs. The furnishing in the restaurant was sourced from Antique shops to bring an old fashioned style into a new building.

All foods are cooked fresh daily.

The Fireman’s breakfast offers ten different items, served on a shovel (plate optional). The daily lunch buffet consists of meat and fish platters, soup and melon - mains include two vegetarian dishes, one

vegan, one fish and two meats, the majority being gluten free and a selection of desserts.

Thursday is their ‘Tea for a Tenner’ night: any two courses for £10.

Friday and Saturday evening sees their more upmarket supper menu and Sunday is their carvery lunch: three courses for £14! Their menus change daily, and the buffet style lunches have a wide selection of salads to choose from.

Parties are catered for, with no room hire charge, and bespoke menus to cater for the clients’ needs and budget.

The Black Dog Oven is a ramshackle family run operation which pops up at public events and festivals around the Island (and is also available for private hire).

It comprises simply of a woodfired oven in a horse box. From humble beginning though, wondrous Manx pizzas are created! The Black Dog Oven focuses on quality local ingredients and freshness, to guarantee consistently great flavour.

Pizzas are rolled, stretched and topped to order in front of your eyes, and cooked in as little as 90 seconds in the Black Dog, resulting in a thin and very crispy pizza which is rich and smokey in taste.
