THE BATTLE OF FRANKLIN & BEYOND

Thousands visit Franklin each year to learn more about the Battle of Franklin, the infamous Civil War battle that left more than 10,000 soldier casualties. Landmarks, historic tours, and local parks pay homage to the battle and help visitors understand its impact on the town and country as a whole. But Franklin's history extends well beyond the Civil War; the story of its African American residents includes enslavement, brutality, lynching, and, ultimately, survival against the odds. Local residents now are working with city leaders and historians to make sure a more accurate look at Franklin's complex past is being shared with those who come here to learn about it.

TOUR HISTORIC HOMES

Tours at Franklin's historic homes tell the story of the battle from the perspective of the people who lived here, lost family members in the battle, and tended to wounded soldiers after it was all over.

Located near downtown Franklin, Carnton and Carter House both include general guided tours and specialty tours that allow visitors to learn about the enslaved people of Franklin and get behind-the-scenes looks at the homes.

In Spring Hill, tours of historic farm Rippa Villa detail the bloody events that took place in the hours before the Battle of Franklin, all through the eyes of the family who once lived on the grand estate. On November 29, 1864, the Battle of Spring Hill was fought across this expansive property, leaving several hundred soldiers killed or wounded, preceding the Battle of Franklin the next day.

Specialty Tours AT LOTZ HOUSE

Straight down Columbia Avenue from downtown Franklin, you'll find Lotz House, TripAdvisor's highest-rated Franklin attraction.

Tours here detail the fascinating story of German immigrant Johann Albert Lotz, a master carpenter and piano maker who remained neutral during the Civil War and lived through the Battle of Franklin alongside his young family. In addition to learning about the battle and the unique tale of how it impacted the lives of the children who lived here, visitors are also treated to up-close looks at furniture and woodwork handcrafted by Lotz, who was responsible for the mantels and wood carvings in Franklin's downtown courthouse. Lotz built his home to showcase the different styles of woodwork he was capable of producing for customers, resulting in an architectural style you won't find anywhere else.

Aside from general daily tours, Lotz House offers the Thomas Cartwright Walking Battlefield Tour, ghost tours, women's history tours, and antique appraisals. Those with an interest in archaeolog y will want to catch one of Lotz House's occasional cellar tours—the cellar is currently being excavated, and artifacts from the Civil War era are still being uncovered!

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful picnic spot in Tennessee than Arrington Vineyards. Nestled in the hills of Williamson County, the popular outdoor venue has delicious wines and tasting flights, live bluegrass and jazz performances, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Since opening in 2007, Arrington Vineyards has become a Southeastern sensation, earning multiple awards and rave reviews from wine enthusiasts across the country. Owned by Country Music Hall of Fame member Kix Brooks, winemaker Kip Summers, and entrepreneur John Russell, the vineyards have indeed become one of Franklin's most unforgettable experiences.

TASTING BAR EXPERIENCE

The beautiful property sits on 95 acres, providing ample room to spread out and spend a day enjoying the enchanting views of Middle Tennessee's rolling hills. Visitors can roam the 16-acre vineyard or visit five different tasting rooms located throughout the property. For a more personalized experience, check of Arrington's Tasting Bar, which is open daily in the Lodge. Make reservations for this experience for up to four guests, and you will be guided through a tasting of six wines and given a Riedel wine glass to keep afterwards as a memento.

PICTURE-PERFECT PICNICS

Hungry? You can opt to bring your own picnic to the vineyard or order one ahead of time from gourmet food basket company Simply Living Life, which takes care of all the details from lunch to tablecloths and drinkware.

Charcuterie-style snacks are also available for purchase on-site, and food trucks visit the property Fridays from May through November. Enjoy your picnic out on the vast lawn or in one of the many shaded picnic areas on the property.

AWARD-WINNING WINES

Arrington Vineyards' wines include 22 award-winning reds, whites, and dessert wines, each produced and bottled on the property. Some of the most popular varietal staples include Stag's White, Red Fox Red, and Firefly Rosé. Fans of bold flavor will want to try the KB Select vintage, a favorite of Kix Brooks, and those preferring a whiskey barrel finish will delight in the Antebellum White & Red collections. On warmer days, there's no better way to cool off than with one of Arrington's frozen wine slushies, aptly named frosé.

Raise a Glass TO MCCREARY'S IRISH PUB

In the heart of downtown Franklin, you'll find McCreary's Irish Pu b, a cozy, casual bar and grill featuring Irish and American cuisine; a wide variety of beer, wines, and specialty cocktails; and live Celtic music. Open since 2002, McCreary's Irish Pub has won the hearts of locals and visitors alike for its welcoming atmosphere and delicious comfort food.

MENU

There's something for every taste on the menu at McCreary's, whether you're in the mood for a juicy burger (folks say McCreary's burger is the best in town!) or traditional Irish favorites like bangers and mash, fish and chips, or Dublin pot pie. For lighter appetites, McCreary's offers a selection of slowsimmered soups served with Irish soda bread, deli sandwiches, and scrumptious salads topped with Scottish salmon or Wagyu sirloin. Desserts include homemade bread pudding, Irish cream cheesecake, and a three-layer Guinness chocolate cake.

DRINKS

McCreary's offers a wide range of constantly changing bottled and canned beers, a tap that rotates local beers on a regular basis, and an original selection of drafts that have been served here since McCreary's opened two decades ago. Cocktails include both hot and cold Irish-inspired favorites like the Midnight Mary, Jameson Black Barrel Manhattan, and Irish Pancake Shots with Guinness Candied Bacon.

MUSIC

Enjoy live Celtic music playing at McCreary's every weekend, as well as a crowd of revelers clapping and singing along with the performers. From folk singers to Irish pub bands, the music at McCreary's will make you feel like you're sitting in a Dublin pub enjoying a pint while singing, dancing, and laughing with your friends and family. McCreary's also celebrates special events like National Drink Beer Day. Check the events tab on their website to find out what's next on the schedule. Whether you opt to sit inside and enjoy live music or outside on McCreary's patio for the weather and the peoplewatching, McCreary's Irish Pub is a wonderful place to enjoy a meal, a beer, and the company of the people you love most.

Gather Around AT COMPANY DISTILLING

NOW DISTILLING IN THOMPSON'S STATION

What sets a good whiskey and a great whiskey apart isn't about the tasting notes or the receptacle in which it's been matured. It's about the company you share it with and the moments you make in the midst of sharing. This belief is the reason for Company Distilling's namesake.

After adding eight new products to Jack Daniel's portfolio from 2010 to 2020, Master Distiller Jeff Arnett started thinking about how to build his own brand and the legacy he would leave on the industry. As the wheels of innovation turned within, Jeff became the first master distiller to leave Jack Daniel's without passing on or retiring. He set out on a new chapter that would be wood-finished and steeped in friendship. And thus, Company Distilling took root.

Located in the charming and picturesque town of Thompson's Station, Company crafts its spirits in the same building local farmers used to house grains before loading them on the railroad for sale generations ago. Since its inception in 2020, Company Distilling has proven itself as an innovative spirits brand. Across the United States, their whiskeys continue to be multi-awardwinning year after year. And it's not just the whiskey racking up the awards; they were also named "Tennessee Gin Distillery of the Year" at the New York International Spirits Competition in 2023.

The distillery offers a production area open for tours, a bottle and retail shop, and a bar where you can enjoy various tasting experiences, including portfolio and premium tastings, chocolate pairings, or signature drinks from the cocktail menu. With a range of options, it's the perfect place to gather with your best of company. Whether you have been a bourbon aficionado for years or are new to the whiskey world, the only real mistake you can make while enjoying Company Distilling's products is keeping them all to yourself.

STRAIGHT BOURBON

Company Distilling's Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a true standout. Complex and smooth, it has notes of caramel and cinnamon toast paired with green apple and finished with a blend of oak and maple.

GHOST RAIL GIN

The awardwinning Ghost Rail Gin is distilled and bottled exclusively at Thompson's Station. Using six botanicals, the gin is distilled in a small open-fired alembic still.

ACE GAP FLAVORED SPIRITS

For those with a sweet tooth, Ace Gap Flavored Spirits include mouthwatering options such as Apple Pie, Blackberry, and Oatmeal Cookie.
