Small Town Charm
Placerville & Georgetown
Placerville is a charming California Gold Rush town named after the placer gold deposits found in its
riverbeds and hills in the late 1840s. Located at the crossroad of Highway 49 & Highway 50, this is a perfect stop on the popular route to Lake Tahoe. Placerville’s treasured heritage can be seen in the historical, 19th century architecture of its downtown core. An important historic landmark on Main Street is the Bell Tower, which still stands as a monument to the city’s volunteer firemen. Stroll the street or shop till you drop at one of the more than 50 unique shops, fine art galleries, and restaurants.

Georgetown Main Street in Georgetown looks much as it did long ago with its wide streets and historic buildings. A young man named Hudson is credited with discovering the rich diggings in Georgetown in the summer of 1849. Soon after, a company of sailors lead by George Phipps began working the stream at a spot below the present townsite where they uncovered rich placers and took out a fortune in gold. Located off of Highway 193, this hidden gem is definitely worth the road trip. Today you will find quaint shops, eateries and antiques. Don’t miss the impressive Art on the Divide Gallery or take in a tall tale or two at the Georgetown Hotel & Saloon.
