A federal State
Un État fédéral
Belgium today is a Federal State with decentralised power, made up of the communities and the regions. The decision-making power no longer rests exclusively with the Federal Government. The communities and regions have separate executive and legislative power. The French Community exercises its responsibilities in the Walloon provinces (except the German-speaking ones) and in Brussels, with the Flemish Community exercising its power in the Flemish provinces and in Brussels, and the Germanspeaking community in the municipalities in the German-language region.
La Belgique est aujourd’hui un Etat fédéral au pouvoir décentralisé, qui se compose des Communautés et des Régions. Le pouvoir de décision n’appartient plus exclusivement au gouvernement fédéral. Les Communautés et Régions disposent d’un pouvoir exécutif et législatif séparés. La Communauté française exerce ses compétences dans les provinces wallonnes (sauf les germanophones) et à Bruxelles, la Communauté flamande dans les provinces flamandes et à Bruxelles, la Communauté germanophone dans les communes de la région de langue allemande.
