Anual Report 2023

Cintya Flores Lacayo

Message from Officer in ChargeCountry Program Manager

We bid farewell to the year 2023 with a heart full of gratitude to God for the blessings received, for the challenges we were able to successfully overcome and for the lessons learned that strengthened our daily work in favor of the integral wellbeing of the most vulnerable children in Nicaragua.

We recognize the commitment and hard work done by our collaborators, who, together with more than 700 volunteers, volunteers and community leaders, actively participate in the care and protection of children in the 381 communities where our programs and projects are implemented.

We thank the Ministry of the Family, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Municipal Mayors for the successful coordination of work plans that allowed us to collaborate with national efforts for the welfare of children. We thank our International Support Offices, Partners, Sponsors, Donors and Advisors for their unconditional support, which allowed us to directly or indirectly contribute to the integral wellbeing of 2,368,202 children, adolescents and youth.

Through our Spirituality, Protection and Education Technical Program, children learned to be more resilient, strengthened their relationship with God, adopted the habit of reading, writing and critical thinking, which improved their academic performance.

Our Social, Environmental and Economic Resilience Technical Program made important investments to improve access to safe water and sanitation for children. It strengthened capacities in schools, communities and families to adopt hygienic habits that prevent diseases. This program fostered the development of young people’s capacities to design and develop new enterprises that support the generation of family income and the consolidation of their personal life purpose.

In addition, it contributed to the communities’ adoption of new climate-smart and climate-resilient agriculture techniques, influenced the protection of natural resources and strengthened community risk management in the face of natural phenomena.

Through the Sponsorship Program, the rights of children to health, education, participation and recreation were promoted at the local level. Local capacities for the care and protection of children and adolescents were strengthened by supporting the self-management of micro-projects that address community needs and allow for long-term sustainability.

In 2023, World Vision, committed to caring for the environment that God created, launched the Greening the Dry Corridor Initiative at the Central American level, with which we aspire to 2030, to contribute to 10 million inhabitants of the Central American Dry Corridor to leave a green footprint in the world, protecting its natural resources and mitigating the impact of climate change for children.

World Vision Nicaragua remains firm in its commitment to continue implementing programs and projects focused on the integral development of Nicaragua’s most vulnerable children, partnering and collaborating so that together we can achieve “for every child life in all its fullness, our prayer for every heart, the will to make this possible”.

We welcome the year 2024 with faith and hope, entrusting our plans to God, recognizing our call to serve Nicaraguan children, families and communities.

Social, Environmental and Economic Resilience

Context

Due to its geographic location, Nicaragua is susceptible to a variety of natural and anthropogenic environmental impacts. In addition, the impact of climate change has had adverse effects on watersheds and agriculture, a situation that is especially aggravated in the regions located within the country’s Dry Corridor.

In its territorial response planning, World Vision Nicaragua considers various environmental scenarios in order to develop methodologies that contribute to the sustainable development of communities and contribute to the preservation of natural resources.

Initiative Greening The Dry Corridor

The Central American Dry Corridor is a region highly affected by climate change, experiencing intense droughts and irregular rains. These adverse climatic conditions, combined with unsustainable agricultural practices, have generated significant challenges such as:

Therefore, as World Vision we propose to take climate action with the Greening the Dry Corridor initiative, with which we commit to impacting 10 million inhabitants of the Dry Corridor by 2030, who will leave a green footprint in the world, protecting their natural resources and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Christian Discipleship for Children

Context

Christian Discipleship is a spiritual nutrition project that seeks for children, adolescents and young people (NAJ spanish acronym) to experience the love of God and share it with their peers.

Children, adolescents and young people are affected in their integral development by fragile contexts that deny them the experience of God’s love and that of their neighbors.

The project focuses its attention on the barriers or factors that prevent children from enjoying a full coexistence with their families and with God.

The project is being developed in Asia, Africa and in 4 countries of the Central American region, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua, as a response to the social, economic, environmental problems and the COVID-19 pandemic that affect the stability and integral development of families and communities.

Christian Discipleship for Children

What is expected from the project?

That children and adolescents may experience God’s love in their homes, church, and community.

Therefore, it is essential that:

• Mothers, fathers and caregivers support the spiritual development of adolescent girls, boys and young people in a caring environment.

• Adolescent girls, boys and young people grow in their faith through the experience of a meaningful life purpose and harmonious relationships.

• Churches and confessional organizations bring girls, adolescent boys and young people closer to the Kingdom of God, mobilizing resources to promote their integral development.

The 3 Pilares fundamental pillars that it addresses are:

Mothers, fathers and caregivers so that they can accompany the integral development of adolescent girls, boys and young people within an environment of tenderness.

Girls and boys so that they can experience the meaning of faith, their life and harmonious relationships.

Churches and Faith-based organizations (FBO), so that they can bring children, adolescents and young people closer to the Kingdom of God through the processes of Child-friendly Discipleship.

As a GOAL to reach: The project will have a duration of 5 years (2022-2026)
