Studio House

The Brief asks for a design of a studio house of 70 sqm area for an individual. where the design encourages an outdoor way of living, that can be light and airy with a calming effect on the soul and the type of user is our choice.

The site is situated quite far away from the urban setting.

The site is situated in the outskirts of Pondicherry. It has its own lentic ecosystem consisting of the small pond and lush floral vegetation around, which is a big advantage for our user who is a retired entomologist.

Concept Pondicherry comes under tropical wet and dry classification, to make a comfortable living space proper dissipation of heat from the building should be facilitated.

The studio house is covered with vaulted roofs made of compressed earth blocks.Due to thermal stratification, the air heated within a building with a curved roof gathers in the space under the roof, thus creating more comfortable conditions on the living/floor level. Thus the comfortable temperature can be maintained for longer when compared to a flat slab.

Nursery and Primary School

The Design problem is a nursery and primary school.The school is to be designed for an age group of 3 to 5 years for the nursery section and 6 to 11 years for the primary section. Since the school is one of the first physical environment away from the home every designer has the challenge to make the spaces as comfortable as possible The site is located in the new city of Amravati in Andhra Pradesh. The site is located in a hot & humid climate creating a challenge for the designer to be climate responsive.

Mies Memorial Library The design problem is a memorial library building for Mies van der Rohe in IIT Chicago, which is meant to preserve,celebrate the life, works and contributions of one of the founding fathers of modern architecture.

It should be capable of encouraging young architects to be ambitious and remind the established ones to never settle. It will be a necessary complement to the needs of the Architecture School and the IIT campus.
