The transnational meeting took place in Osnabruck, from 18th to 21st October.

Schools from Germany, France, Italy and Portugal started a new project “The inclusion of immigrants and refugees into our everyday life in Europe – Ideas, concepts and opportunities in school and its environment�, under ERASMUS+ programme, supported by the European Commission.

The first meeting of the project, a Transnational Meeting, was in Germany in the coordinator institution Integrierte Gesamtschule Osnabruck.

The main aim of the project is to integrate immigrants into educational communities. The partner schools want to improve the inclusion of the foreign students, enrolling teachers and students in a common reflection to find solutions to solve the problem.

All the countries involved are facing the same reality, so through sharing experiences and collaborating with each other will give the opportunities to students to be an active part of the problem solving, improving the critical thinking and preparing them to the XXI century skills.

For 4 days 7 partner teachers and the host teachers work together, planning the first year of the project, scheduling the learning, training activities that will take place in March in Osnabruck and in May in Italy.

During the stay the Erasmus team visited OsnabrĂźck, contacting with the German culture.

From this meeting the Erasmus+ team have done a great collaborative work. All the teachers involved show a huge motivation and participate actively in all the tasks in a great work environment.

19th October 2017 1. Things to be done until the first exchange • • • • •

each school applies for the Europass ask parents for authorization to publish photos and videos eTwinning: two teachers found an eTwinning project (Virgínia & Edith) and invite all the other partners all teachers have to register on eTwinning individually to be invited for the project With the Erasmus school groups: o handing out the letters from France o starting mail friendships o Every student coming to Germany & the host students do a video about themselves (1 minute) and upload it on: padlet.com/virginiaesteves/germany2018 o invite the immigrated students of the school (first contact, getting them involved) o creating a logo, choosing the best 3 to take to Germany  the logo: DinA4 the biggest circle within; implying the key words “inclusion”, “school”, “immigrants”; and “Europe” o

Preparing three PowerPoint presentations (more pictures than text): 1. Our country / Our city (5 minutes, 6 slides) (presentation 1) 2. Our school / Our system (5 minutes, 6 slides) (presentation 2) 3. Immigrants in our school (max. 10 min., 6-8 slides) (presentation 3)  Who are the students (nationalities), how many, ages, gender, their main problems, their needs  The last slide should be a reflexion on the problems and could offer one or two solutions

2. Activities in Germany 1. Day 1: o “Newcomer Day”: challenges ready o presentations 1 & 2 2. day 2: o presentation 3 o While-Listening Task: questionnaire (nationalities, numbers, ages, gender, main problems, needs -> * easy version with given items to choose from) last day: creating a product all together (also getting the immigrated students involved, sports / drama / music / art) •

each country brings 3 logos; everybody votes on the best logo -> maybe one logo built out of each country’s logo

On their first day Challenges start after breakfast in the “Forum�

Students will be going in small mixed groups challenges will be combined with a school rally challenges: o find your way to your class o get your books you need for class o get a signature from teacher XY o get a Mensa Card to have lunch o get a stamp for your Europass o sign up for playing billiard during the break o survive in class đ&#x;˜Š Task: put up your arm in class and give at least one good answer to the teacher’s questions reflection questionnaire: How did you feel in the beginning of the day?

Did you try to participate in class?

Did you manage to give an answer in class? Why (not) Did you get help in class?

Who helped you?

What did you find most challenging?

What was easy for you?

What did you like / didn’t you like on your first day?

5. Matching of hosts and e-mail friendships • •

The Germans make a list with information about where which students want to go and their age (until Christmas) All others match them with their students and initiate the contact & start writing (until January)

6. Activities 2nd exchange to Italy • •

Stage 2: “Analysing what works and what is needed�

Erasmus groups at home: A clear diagnosis of the research is necessary; then decide on two possible solutions for a general concept to present in Italy

In Italy: students discuss their results in mixed groups (presenting 2 possible solutions) -> find a common concept (could be a combination of two or three solutions) about what can schools / students / teacher do to improve the situation + how to help their partners to find specific solutions In the end, each small group presents one concept which leads to a discussion (e.g. partnerships, digital material for tablets (video tutorials etc.), survival kid) The input from all four countries will lead to phase No.3

7. Evaluation: a) Questionnaire 1: Evaluation of the students’ progress / personal development: o possible categories: o Level of English: how to do feel presenting something in English?

• How well are you able to speak English in front of a group? (ranking 0-10) o Stage of awareness (concerning immigrants): • How much do you know about the history of immigration / emigration? (nothing, a little bit, something, a lot) • How much do you know about the situation of immigrants in Europe?

• How much do you know about the immigrants in your school? o Motivation & Ability to help including immigrants at school?

• What do you want to do to help new students? (nothing, be a tutor, be a translator, be a friend) b) Questionnaire 2: Evaluation of the project concept & the school system o Is there a concept in your school to welcome newly arrived students? (yes, no, I don’t know) o Do you think that a concept is important? (yes, no) o Is it easy to be an immigrant at your school? (yes! No! / Why not? -> because of language problems, no friends, finding your way, problems in lessons)
