Meeting Report Iceland HallormsstadaskĂłli October 1st - 8th The Comenius team started the second year of the partnership with a meeting of the teachers from the participating countries in HallormsstadaskĂłli, Iceland.

The main aim of this project meeting was to prepare all the activities for the second year keeping in mind the students’ exchange that is going to take place in Portugal in April 2012.

In Iceland we had the opportunity to get to know the island with its habits, traditions, lifestyles, school system and unique landscapes.

On our first day at school we were welcomed by the hosts. They prepared a play and Icelandic traditional songs.

Meeting Report Iceland Hallormsstadaskóli October 1st - 8th During our stay in Hallormsstadaskoli we prepared materials such as worksheets and plans for the second students’ exchange. Students are going to record audio files in English and in their own language. These audio files will be uploaded by the teachers in order to be used by all the others to improve listening, reading, speaking and ICT skills.

In Portugal the students are going to show their progress in foreign language learning: performing short dialogues (shopping, at the restaurant, travelling, asking the way and relevant information about themselves), working in groups and attending a workshop about Lifelong Learning.

Teachers compared the first year’s evaluation of the activities. The students were highly motivated to learn other languages and to get to know cultural issues regarding the partner countries. After the meeting in Italy the students have been staying in contact with each other using different social platforms.

The teachers were satisfied with the project outcomes and the first year aims were met. During the first year all the partner schools organized Comenius corners to display the partner countries and the activities. Local media were also involved in the dissemination of the project.

The project is not only presented on the platform “Bildungsserver Burgenland” but also on eTwinning and google sites so that it is available to all. https://sites.google.com/site/differentlanguaguessamespeech/ The host school arranged excursions to Reykjavik, through the north of the island, Akureyri, Egilsstadir and its surroundings. Teachers learned a lot about the region and were given the chance to get to know the natural wonders of this country (geothermal power plants and pools, waterfalls and the vast deserts…)

Local authorities supported the host partner in the organization of the project meeting.

All the partners were glad to attend this project meeting and would like to thank the Icelandic host for its hospitality as well as its cooperation and support for this Comenius Project Meeting.

Teachers are also very thankful to all the National Agencies who gave us the opportunity to participate in this project.
