Medication information can be complex, and many patients struggle to understand the printed medication package inserts currently available. The one-size-fits-all approach does not effectively address diverse health literacy needs, leaving some patients without the necessary understanding to take their medications safely.
Providing all patients with accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensible medication information is essential to ensure patient safety and promote equity. Collaboration among stakeholders within the healthcare ecosystem, including non-profit organizations, patient advocates, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical companies and policy makers, is crucial to address this concern.
By working together, we can generate the best ideas, harness the potential of digital health technologies, and standardize display formats and distribution methods. Creating accessible, comprehensible, and culturally sensitive medicine information resources through joint efforts is vital in guaranteeing that no patient is left behind.

expand the accessibility and effectiveness of unbiased, up-todate, regulator-approved electronic medication information by making them available to patients in plain language at the point of need through the advancement of digitally interoperable healthcare environments for more active health management and medication adherence?
To pioneer and develop world-class leadership in the application, exchange, and integration of electronic medication information for patients, with the ultimate goal of improving understanding of medication labels thus promoting safe and appropriate use of medication based on a patient’s health literacy, equity, technical abilities, access, and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH).

Recognize the opportunities
With a multi stakeholder roadmap approach, explore pathways towards improving medication information and building the evidence base for digitalfirst solutions that comply with regulations. Define the problem, identify promising ideas and gather evidence needed for conducting small tests of change.
Be a part of the path forward
Shape the outcomes by co-creating a roadmap for the electonic medication information Working Group with patients and multi-sectoral stakeholders.
Rise to the challenge
Evaluate execution dimensions and shape direction of the Working Group.
The Retreat is part of a Working Group dedicated to reimagining the potential for enhanced medication information which recognizes that not all patients are the same and aims to deliver person-centered solutions. We encourage open discussions and interactive ideation. This is an invitation only event.
The Division of Clinical Informatics (DCI) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a leading centre for developing scalable models, informatics research, and policymaking since 1970. Launched in September 2022, the DCI Network aims to accelerate solutions to complex healthcare problems by creating new multi-stakeholder alliances and consortia, and creating strategic roadmaps to implement solutions that scale.
