Chairman’s Report December 2017: Thanks to Denis and Sheryl for taking over the chairman/secretary roles from the end of September. We had a great trip away. Great weather. Just four days when there was some rain out of six weeks. The half of the London – Brighton run that we managed to complete with Doug and Anne Hamilton, was an unforgettable experience. The car Doug had been loaned for the event did not run well under the slightest load despite the engine having only just been rebuilt. The start and the initial run out of Hyde Park, past the palace and down the Mall under a cloudless sky was a real thrill but after crossing Tower Bridge the traffic built up quickly. Unfortunately, without prior notice to the event organisers, the local authorities decided to make repairs to a gas main on the A217. We came to a complete standstill and spent 45 minutes driving just 800 metres and half of that we did on the footpath. Sadly, just past the road works the engine died and refused to start. We spent the next four hours waiting for a tow truck which took us down to Brighton. The event was marred by a serious accident involving a 1902 Benz and three modern cars. The driver of the Benz later died from his injuries. Fortunately the injuries sustained by his passengers were much less serious. Back home, we’re pleased that Anne McDonald has agreed to take on the Custodian/Hospitality role. I understand that the Coast to Coast Run was well supported with everyone making it to the finish. Although just two club-eligible cars from our branch were displayed at the Kauri Museum open day, eight vehicles were on display for the Kowhai Festival. A change to the date for the Warkworth Santa Parade means that we have moved the Posh Picnic, being held at the home of Brian and Rosemary Sollis, forward to this coming Sunday 26 November. The Wellsford Santa Parade is being held on 25 November, at Centennial Park, Wellsford. Vehicles need to be in the assembly area ready to go by 10.00 a.m. There will not be a club night in December or January. Instead we are holding a Christmas luncheon at the Salty Dog on Sunday 17 December. Please let Anne Richardson know if you will be joining us for that.

Many of you will know that a valued committee member, Neil Cremer recently without warning lost most of his eyesight. Steroid treatment has helped him to regain his vision sufficiently to enable him to have his licence back. Great news! As Neil says, you don’t realise how vital your eyesight is for everything you do, until you lose it. As this is the final newsletter for 2017, I would like to thank our committee and many non-committee members, for the work they have done throughout the year to help ensure the smooth running of the branch. On behalf of the Committee, I would like to wish all our members a joyful Christmas and an enjoyable new year. Happy motoring Leon 4

Club Captain’s Report: December 2017

Christmas is approaching rapidly and our numbers at events reflect how busy everyone is, and the unpredictable precipitation. 8 cars were on show at the Kowhai festival, and 6 at Wenderholme picnic. However, there were 13 eligible cars and 4 moderns on our first Coast to Coast navigation rally. Some took wrong turnings but all arrived at the picnic spot at Port Albert. We will look at putting on a review of the rules/instructions for rallies at a clubnight soon. Now a reminder of events leading up to Christmas—PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATES. Leon has been contacted with information about the Wellsford Santa parade and circulated information. Assemble at 10.00am in Centennial Park using the top entrance on Centennial Park Road. Assemble on the flat area with the floats below the netball courts. Posh Picnic: Sunday Nov 26 , 12.00 midday at 108 Wilson Road, Warkworth. We may be in Alnwick Street or on Neville street to feed in to the parade so we are positioned to leave at the end and park up in Paper Plus Car Park. nd

Choice of Ham, Snapper, salads, veges and desert-should be able to suit all dietary needs. Money to Sheryl on the day. But, please, you must turn up otherwise the club will have to pay the balance. I need your names by Sunday 10 Dec: Ring, email or leave a message. th

The Warkworth A&P Show: Saturday January 27 . We will park near the Rugby Club as we have been in the last 2/3 years. Please arrive by 8.30. We will be given tickets for the drivers but everyone else will need to pay as usual. I will get the tickets in advance and hand them out as you arrive. If we run out then we will be able to get refunds from the office. We will take our gazebos for shade/rain and leaflets to hand out to interested members of the public. BYO picnic or food on the field. th

The first picnic of 2018 will be on Jan 17 at Brick Bay. th
