Editor’s Snippet Hi Everyone I hope this finds you all prepared for Xmas!!!!! It will be less than 4 weeks when you receive this newsletter.

We have a Xmas Economy run on Saturday December 9th, assemble at the Clubrooms at 1.30pm. Don’t fill your bike or car as these will be filled up under supervision at a Service Station nearby, your mileage will be taken and then you will set out on the run and upon completion of the run your tank will be topped up. The results will be compiled and compared. This is followed by Xmas Dinner and prize giving at the Clubrooms. Cost will be $10.00 per person. Please contact Jenny Patton 078556899 or 0274934969 or Email So come along for something different, see you there!! We had a good number of people attending the Swap Meet. A good number of sellers and buyers , pity the rain put a bit of a dampener on things around 11.00am. The question has to asked about the venue though, with a major rowing regatta and Kayaking also booked into the venue. It made the public entering the swap meet a tad confused. Well in the spirit of Christmas I would like to thank everyone for their articles and other contributions to the Venture over the course of 2017 and I would like to extend Xmas tidings to one and all and a happy and safe New Year. Keep to the left and enjoy your motoring Bozy

C h a ir m a n ’s C h a tter Everyone will know I have had a lucky escape falling from a ladder whilst trying to clean out the gutter at the Vintage Car Club the Saturday before the Swap Meet. A dislocated shoulder but things could have been a lot worse and I am thankful the parts shed boys were on hand to call the ambulance. Back in time, thanks to Roy and Anita for the Shark and Tatty Run, Don and Colleen for our lunch excursion after watching the veterans depart. We will be doing more of these simple outings. The Veteran Cars are always a spectacle and I was very proud of Theo, Michelle, David Nordell and others for organising this year’s run. Also, Jeremy and Murray Ashby, Peter and Bev and all those helpers for the Swap Meet. Early reports indicate a better financial return this year. Certainly better weather . Coming up very fast is Christmas, our Economy Run on Saturday the 9th followed by our Club Barbeque at our Cambridge Club. I am looking forward to our weekend excursion to the Bay of Plenty, hope I am fit enough to do the Motu again. It is such a neat road in an old car. Blue Smoke and Pedals is a worthwhile event early in January. If you haven’t got a bike come and help out or watch – you are bound to win a chocolate fish. If I don’t see you before - Happy Christmas. IAN

Motorcycle Club Captain

Our South Waikato County Run last month was well supported. I think it was as a result of our last year’s visit to Murray Belfield home to see the ¾ size replica 1935 STORCH World War Two plane he is building in his garage, and people were keen to see what progress had been made and those that did not come last year, were keen to see what it is all about. We sent off from the clubs room at 9.30 on a longer morning run this year, ending up at the Rhubard Café for coffee. Our next stop was the Tokoroa Club for lunch which was as good as ever. Then onto Murray’s to see what the plane was looking like as we had been told he had all but been covered it in with what looked like canvas, but we were told it was very special stuff and also how it had been put on. He said that it was very strong and that you could jump on it and it would not break or crack, just bow and then spring back. As we were leaving Murray invited us back next year when he hopes to have it flying, can’t wait!! It was then back to the Clubrooms for a cupa and then off the Club House for dinner, which finished off a very enjoyable day. Thanks must go to Colin Dray and Barrie our back up team and to Ron who very kindly loaned us his trailer, which thankfully we did not have to us. The next outing is the combined club run and BBQ on the 9 th December, see the Venture for details, unfortunately I cannot be there as we will be in Whangarei. In January we have the Blue Smoke and Pedals on Sunday the 14 th January. Last year the attendance was not good, as we have in the past been getting a lot more people/bikes along, so this year we ask that you spread the word that it is a real fun day and let us get back to the numbers we used to have, there is an Entre Form in the Venture. That is about all, other than to wish you all a Very Safe and Happy Xmas and New Year Safe riding Peter Spiller

A BIG WELCOME TO OUR NEW MEMBERS Kevin Slater who has transferred from Horowhenua VCC Maurice & Valerie from Ohaupo Brett Henderson & Janet Middleton from Tamahere. who have joined to our branch recently We hope that you will enjoy the club and it’s many activities If you have any queries either big or small please do not hesitate to contact any member of the committee and they will be more than willing to assist you in any way possible. Once again, welcome to the club. We hope to see you at the club night on the second Wednesday of the Month. 6

Veteran & Two Wheel Brake Rally - Report November 5th

Veteran and Two Wheel Brake Rally had 19 entrants this year, of this fleet, 13 vehicles were 100 years old or more. Great to see a good number of the Club’s oldest cars on the road! Entrants were from Auckland and included the VCC North Island Club Captain & husband from the Bay of Plenty in their Model T Tourer. Always good to see VCC Members bring their vehicles to the Waikato events, many thanks. Despite the inclement weather of the preceding few days, Sunday (rally day) was fine but overcast. Just as well as, several entrants had dressed for the period of their vehicles; this made for some great sights. Well done to those that went to the effort. Leaving from the Waikato Club rooms on two different routes the run took in several country roads around the area. The short and long route crossed paths on more than one occasion. The short morning route (approx. 25 miles) “skirted” around the outer fringe of Cambridge East whilst the long route (approx. 41 miles) headed through Maungakawa. Cambridge Stud was the first stop and where for the first time both routes crossed paths. At Cambridge Stud all had a few horsy questions to address and take a photo or two before heading to Tamahere for the end of the “timed section”. On this and without speedos in most cases, two entrants had perfect timing, arriving within seconds of their time allocation…who needs a speedo! Then via Mystery Creek, vehicles headed to Roto O Rangi School for lunch; both the short and long routes heading down different roads arriving at the lunchbreak from different directions. The school put on a wonderful luncheon spread, many thanks to the pupils and staff at Roto O Rangi. Following lunch-break, and after the opportunity for some of the school pupils to have a ride in a 100 year old vehicle, (greatly appreciated), the second part of the rally got underway. Entrants headed (via two different routes) back into Cambridge through the main street CBD area and onto St Kilda Retirement Village for afternoon tea and prize giving. This was a very enjoyable drive with the long route covering 68 miles whilst the short route covered 38 miles. A good mix of quiet country roads, places of interest to see and good scenery on the way through, nice food at the breaks. Many thanks to marshal’s David & Ayleen Barnes, Russell Hutcheson, Michelle de Leeuw and two Tail-end Charlie’s David Nordell and Jonathan de Leeuw. Certainly having good helpers on the day makes the run enjoyable 16

Do you want your car on display for the up and coming OPEN DAY in February next year?

If so, please drop me a line so that your car can be considered. I say “considered” as we need a good cross section of vehicles that represent the various classes. Please do not be disappointed if you put your name down and do not get accepted. This may happen, if we get more than one example – a decision will then have to be made on which one we select as space is limited in the parking area where the display cars will be positioned. Please note!! The grass paddock will be open to accept all VCC eligible cars that aren’t “on display” in the parking a rea. If you contact me via email please include vehicle name, year and state of vehicle eg restored or original etc. Open Day Organiser; Hugh McInally 0274362875
