Weatherpermitting,thereisadeadtreeonthedriveway whichwillbecutdown.Ifyoucan,pleasebringalongsaws andchainsaws,andifyouwouldlikesomefreefirewood, bringyourtrailer.

TheLadiesFellowshipgrouphadagreattimelookingaround gardensandoutforlunch.Itwouldbegreattohaveladiescome downtoHorowhenuabranchofVCConthe5th April.Bringlunch fornogginnatterwithothermembersofotherbranchesofVCC. Iamonlytoohappytotakeacarloaddown,justgivemeacallifyouwishtohavearide. MarchhasbeenaverybusymonthforGlynandI.Wespentthe secondweekendofthemonthinChristchurchattheExecutive Meeting,anditwasgreattohaveEstherWilliamsjoinusasBranchDelegate.Itwasavery “robust”meetingattimes,mostitemsontheagendacompleted. MyreportwillbeintheMayTourer.

CLUB CAPTAIN’S RAMBLE -
The2025editionoftheRuahineRamblewasenjoyedbyeveryone whoattendedwith31entriesincluding9fromHorowhenuabranch makingagreatmixofVehiclesandagoodnumberofpeoplestaying onfortheBBQattheendoftheday.
Ihad47bookedinfortheBBQanditwasnicetoseeEsther,Cathy andGlyndropinfordinnerafterflyingbackfromtheChristchurch executivemeeting.
Abigthankstoallthepeopleattheendofthenighthelpingwith thecleanupandthedishes-itcertainlymadeforaneasierendtothenightforme.

TheSundayJaunttotheRushcollectionwasdefinitelyagreatwaytospendafewhoursona Sundayafternoonandleftmostinaweofwhatisparkedupinlocalsheds.
Thisyear’sHighlandFlingisprogressingwell.Wearecurrentlysittingat83entrieswiththem stillslowlytricklinginastheydidlastyearrightuptothelastcoupleofdays.
LastweekendIrantheSundayrouteinitsentiretywithacoupleofnon-carclubpeople followingupintheirUte.Theywereabsolutelyblownawaywithroadsandsceneryaswellas thecoupleoffarmswetravelledoversomuchsotheyaretaggingalongthiscomingweekend tochecktheSaturdayroutethatincludesfourfarmsandanunmaintainedroad.
ForthenextSundayJauntI’mtryingtosortoutaveryinterestingcollectionontheedgeof PalmerstonNorth.

Thatarticlealsohighlightedanothermilestone-therecent‘clockingup’of100,000milesin thatverysame1906Cadillac.

Theownerofthis1929ModelAFordTownSedanprobablyfoundagooduseforthesidemountedsparetyre sinceitlooksasthoughtherightfrontwheelwasruinedbythecrash.Photographtakenon20th May1931.


Someoneremodelledthefrontendofthis1929Buickwithanimmovableobject.Thecarwas probablyscrappedbecauseofthisaccident.Theseries121roadsterwasonlyfouryearsoldwhenthis photographwastakenon17th April1933.Nodoubt,today’srestorerscouldfindawaytousetherestof thebodywhichappearstobeinexcellentshape.Only6195ofthesecarswerebuilt.

ItsFridaymorningandweareheadingofftoNewPlymouthtodotheTaranakiBranches MaungaMoanarally.Althoughitisthe60thrunningofthisevent,thiswillonlybeour2nd time.
WeweremakinggoodtimeuntilnorthofWanganuiwespottedGlynandCathClements stoppedonthesideoftheroad,bonnetandbootlidopen.Myrtl'sfuelpumphadstopped working.Glynwasunderthebonnetworkingonitbutwashavingtroublebecausethecase thathethoughtcontainedhisglasses,infactcontainedCathssunglasses.Fortunatelymy glassesweregoodenoughtoenableGlyntoseewhathewasdoing.Usingthesparefuel pumpinthebootandswappingpartsbetweenthe2fuelpumps,GlynwasabletogetMyrtl runningagain.TherestofthetriptoNewPlymouthwasuneventful.
Aftercheckinginandgettingourrallypacksitwasofftothebarforafewdrinks.Therewas anoptionaltreasurehuntaroundNewPlymouthfridayeveningbutafterthedriveupwe decidedtogiveitamiss.Fromwhatweheardthosewhodiddoithadanenjoyabletime.
Saturdaywasrallyday.Anotherwarmsunnyday.WehadtobeatHickfordParkinBellBlock by9amforbriefingwithfirstcaraway20minuteslater.
There42entrantswithManawaturepresented3cars,AlanandRobynHenryintheirMG, GlynandCathClementsintheirMorrisMinor,andAnnetteandmyselfinourHumber80. Themorningsectionwas70milesofwindinghillyroadsthroughbeautifulTaranaki countryside.Therewereafewtiredarmsatthelunchstopandthelowergearsofsomecars hadagoodworkout.
ThelunchstopwasatDudleyHallKaimiro,about3milesfromInglewood.Afteralonglunch stop,therewasashortrunofabout14milestotheendoftherally.Therestofthe afternoonwasourstodowhateverwewanted.WemadeaquicktriptotheTaranakiparts shedbeforeheadingbacktothehotelforarestafreshenupbeforeheadingdownformore socialising,thendinnerandprizegiving.
Glyn,asNorthIslandClubCaptain,presentedtwoTaranakimemberswiththeir50year badges-DougSurgenorandAnthonyWilson.
Thencamethepresentationontherallytrophies.CongratulationstoGlynandCathon3rd placeintheP60class.
Followingthepresentations,RobThomsongaveashortonthehistoryoftheMaungaMoana rally.Robwasinvolvedintheveryfirstrallyandwastherallysecretaryforthisone,the60th. AlsopresentattherallywereacoupleofentrantswhowerealsoatthefirstrallyBrucePoole (currentlyCentralHawkesBaybutwasaManawatumemberatthetime)andSarahandIan HowellfromtheWanganuiBranch.
Finally,therewasthecuttingofthe60thanniversarycake. Itwasanothergoodweekendaway.ColinJohnstonandTaranakibranchputonawonderful event.
Iencourageyoualltoconsiderattendingthenextone.Itisagoodweekendawayandnot toofartotravel.
