On The Cover: Some members vehicles, and others at the Hawera Car Show for Cancer on 2nd of February.
Hello folks.
I am writing this report from overseas in Brisbane Australia. And will be returning home just in time to run the The Waitara Mini Vin Tour on Sunday 23 February that I hope to see another good turnout to this annual rally. I am here in Brisbane to support Alexander and Lizzie who have come over to get some extensive therapy training over a three-week course for my granddaughter Cove from NAPA which is not available in New Zealand.
The weather is very warm at 32 degrees most days but cooling off with drinks and swimming is the order of the day.
It is amazing to see so many vehicles on the freeways and streets around where I am staying but as yet I have not seen any vintage or classic vehicles on the roads here. So, with the strict registrations and usage of the vintage vehicles here it makes me appreciate how we can drive, go on rallies and enjoy our vintage vehicles at any time of the day or night here in New Zealand.
I have been kept informed on the progress and success of the Inglewood 150-year celebration parade and our own motor show for cancer at Hawera with both events being very well organised and successful. Many thanks to all those involved in organising these events.
Before I left for Brisbane, A lot of progress has been made by Rob Thomson and myself with the Maunga Moana rally that is coming up next month in March I hope that you have got your entry form filled in and sent on to Rob as it will help if we know how many people are coming at an early stage so that we can organise correctly for the special celebration of 60 years.
The Maunga Moana rally has always been a very popular event, and we look forward to a good entry from outside Taranaki as well as from our local members.
A special rally plaque has been struck and for any collector of special events this plaque is a real beauty so I would encourage any member to order one of the plaques on the entry form as they are limited in quantity, I will be returning o n the 18th of February and look forward to catching up with everyone at the Noggin Natter.
So get out and about in your vehicle and enjoy …….. keep to the left ……… stay safe…. We are lucky to drive our pride and joys …… Cheers Chairman Colin.
Hello to all, here we are one month into the new year already and it has been a busy time in the Vintage Car Club calendar, with more to come. Partly due to the continuing fine spell of weather there has been a great turnout of members at events over the past month. Coming up are the Mini Vin in February and our Maunga Moana in March, keep that support coming and polish up those pride and joys, as this good weather won’t last, or will it??
Club night this month will see us inviting Steve Green to come and tell us about what you should and should not be doing in the Online and Internet field, he has some good information to pass on which will be useful to all.
Hope to see you at the Mini Vin next weekend, also to remember Americana is here again on the 19th to the 22nd this month.
Until then safe motoring, Jim Logan.
The sun shone in Hawera for the Cancer Society VCC Taranaki Car Show.
There was a very good turnout of cars, and the A&P Showgrounds were buzzing with rumbling engines and sparkling and polished cars.
There was a great selection from old vintage cars, Hot Rods, Mustangs, Military vehicles and some modern prized possessions.
The coffee cart and sausage sizzle were kept busy all day.
At 2PM there were prize draws with all prizes donated.
Big thanks to everyone that attended to support this worthy cause, & thanks to Bryan Morris & Malcolm Harding and all the others who helped arrange the day.
The total cars on show were 160 with $2,100 being raised for the Cancer Society.
Also like to thank all the members that supported the Inglewood 150th celebrations and the delayed car show on Waitangi Day.
We had a great turnout from members at the car show on a very sunny day.
The 150th celebrations were very well turned out with cars from different eras represented in the parade, and at the static display in the railway car park.
Thursday 20th January – Club Night change of advertised guest to Steve Green Taranaki’s Computer Chap, Mike Davey has been rescheduled for March club night.
Sunday 23rd February – the 52nd Waitara Mini Vin Tour. Please meet at the town and country club West Quay Waitara for this popular event finishing at Colin's home for afternoon tea. Please bring a plate

From Jeff Daniels book, c1980: ‘BRITISH
Amongst the first impressions made by the motoring press upon the release of the MAXI, 1500 cc, with its remote cable operated gear change, this analogy was made, ‘…and its appalling five speed gear change had the similarity of stirring a knitting needle in a bag of marbles’ .
This concept did not last long, being replaced by a rod operated gear change.
