Working Bee

Tuesday July 8 with a 10 am start.

There will be a basic tidy of the clubrooms with windows cleaned, swallows’ nests displaced and all spiders persuaded to live elsewhere for the next while.

Thanks to Dave and Win the deck has been cleaned and smartened up, saving us that job on the 8th . Thanks Gentlemen. Your support is very appreciated. Well done Dave ‘cos it’s not your favourite job, is it!!

We will get all gazebos on site and checked, along with dividers & tables which Win has kindly offered us. Tasks inside will include a general clean, checking the cutlery, plates, glasses etc to be sure we have enough of each and a reshuffle of furniture.

Bring morning tea and something for a shared lunch. Hopefully all will be sorted by lunchtime when we can have a ‘Group’ check to see there are no glaring gaps or obstacles with the planning & link people with jobs for the 19th .

The club will provide punch and red & white wines. Feel comfortable with BYO, if you prefer other drinks.

At the conclusion of the meal, the cake will be cut and our guest speakers will take the floor.

There will be time for you to speak, if you wish.

We are heading towards the 19th quickly.

The last day for RSVP’s is July 10.

Members attending the 50th are asked to bring their vintage vehicles as these will be group parked, as a display.

The Far North Branch of the VVC does have a policy that pets are not brought to any Club events. We do ask that this policy is respected please.

From the Chair…

Our club is one of the smallest in NZ but we made it great on the front cover of the Beaded Wheels this month with a photo of Rosco Pennell in his Citroën and the cover story by Murray Cormack - well done!

Our 50th anniversary celebration on the 19th is coming together well.

We’ve had a great response from the invitations sent to the past members. And we have members as far afield as the South Island coming.

A working bee has been arranged for the 8th of this month to get the

clubrooms looking good. Tuesday 8th July 10 am…outline in Club Notices

We will also need a good turnout of vintage cars on the 19th . Please shine your vintages up and make the effort to bring them. We will be arranging a display of the cars.

The programme for the 19th is in the Club Notices.

Plans are also under way for Daffodil Day, end of August.

We are working with the Kaikohe Pioneer Village Museum to have a shared open day at the Museum with our club cars forming a display and our members supporting the Museum staff. Closer to the day, we will be looking for volunteers, so keep the 30th August set aside for this fundraiser please.

Note this change of date in our calendar. Originally it was the 23rd August.

A piece of useless information :: On July 14th 1853, Hugh Carlton, 1st member of NZ Inaugural Parliament was elected unopposed at Russell, Bay of Islands.

Northern Captain’s Report

Reporting is rather difficult with two of us in the same household!

Chairman Tom has covered things pretty well with the upcoming important event. Keep in mind, if you are in need of transport to the Clubrooms on the 19th July we can always help out - just give me a call prior to the 19th .

Thank you to Naomi and Vince for arranging the two visits to the Chuck Cove Museum.

I wonder how many more hidden gems we have in our area???

Keep your ear to the ground and eyes open for possibilities, as everyone is keen to do these mid-week trips.

Terry and Sue Rogers did a great job organising and running the Molloy Trophy Rally last Saturday.

It is one of our best turnouts with 30 adults and our 3 lads who come quite often with Steve and Steph(grandsons)- great training for these young ones and they are keen!! The route was perfect; another we hadn’t been on.

The weather behaved most of the time. The lunch venue was perfect with no trouble catering for our crowd and there were lots of yarns and laughs- several took different routes but we managed to end up all together!

The winners were:

1st Murray & Chris Squire

2nd Murray & Gloria Cormack

3rd Win Matthews & Glenis Muir

4th Kelly & Joss Archer

5th Edwards Crew

Thank you Terry & Sue.

Safe motoring.

On particularly rough days, remind yourself that your track record for getting through the bad days so far, is 100% and that’s pretty good.

My bed is a magical place where I suddenly remember everything I forgot to do!

Chuck’s Cove Maritime Experience

Naomi & Vince’s inspiration to share with us this hidden treasure at Chucks Cove, was perfect. It is just metres off SHW 10 and the majority of us didn’t know the place existed. It’s an amazing little museum well worth making time for. It is packed with fascinating exhibits.

Thanks Naomi & Vince for planning this visit and sharing it with us.

Warren & Mavis Suckling have developed the museum.

Molloy Trophy Run

Marg I

Many thanks Terry & Sue for a really fun rally last Saturday.

You had roads some of us had never travelled, there was a great variety of road surfaces, landscapes and then roundabouts by the half dozen for us far, far Northerner’s to practise our skills on.

Your run sheet had our attention seriously fixed hunting for answers and as for after being the days date after just sorting the registration plate question, hmmm!! I’ll bet Terry smiled all the way home thinking of the blank looks he received and answers he got, from more than just me, I suspect.

Thanks for all of the preparation & thought you gave to the planning Terry, to make a really great trophy run.
