CHAIRMAN’S REPORT DECEMBER 2017 It’s hard to believe that yet another Christmas has almost arrived. And of course we have the club’s annual Christmas party organised for December Saturday 2nd December at the Taupo Golf Club. This is always a great night out so if you haven’t booked and paid then we hope you will join us on the night. The ladies & men’s night out was held in November and although regretfully we were away and couldn’t attend by all accounts it was a great night. Tony’s column has the details. We also held the annual Posh Afternoon Tea on Sunday 19 th November and despite a great looking weather forecast the weather was far from pleasant so as a back stop the picnic was held in the warmth and comfort of the club rooms. It was great to see some of the club’s new members coming along all dressed for the occasion too! The 2018 Rally is also progressing well with Terry’s Tyres our rally sponsor for the first time. We are delighted to have a local business sponsoring this event and supporting the club so members need to remember this next time you are looking at buying new tyres support them and let them know you are a club member. The course for the rally is currently being set and I am reliably advised that the rally will be perhaps more leisurely than previous years but still have a competitive element. Apart from the annual Christmas party we also have the Taupo Christmas Parade and the club will be inviting as many of our members as possible to attend with your car and form part of the Taupo VCC line up in the procession. We assemble near the Suncourt Hotel at 12.30PM on Saturday 2nd December and the parade starts at 1.00PM. Bring your car and if you can, decorate it up with the Christmas spirit. The club has recently arranged some additional club branded clothing through our recently joined member Mike Ranston at Brand Fuel. We have had the navy blue polo shirts now for some time and we added a fleece jacket and a baseball hat as well as a bucket hat all in matching navy to complement the range. Many of our outdoor activities and runs are in the cooler months so this new range of Taupo VCC branded items will be both attractive and practical for members. Brandfuel Promotions the supplier is located at 32 Oruanui St Taupo (phone 07 378 1160) so just call in and place your order. Details on each items price all inclusive with the embroidered club logo are included elsewhere in this month’s newsletter. Finally we look forward to seeing as many as possible at the Christmas Party and the Taupo Christmas Parade and the committee wishes all members a merry Christmas and happy New Year!

CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT DECEMBER 2017 What has been happening this month! I didn’t attend, but I believe the ladies of our Club had a great evening out on Ladies night, watching the film “No Ordinary Sheila” and then it was off to the Thai Restaurant for a meal. Positive feedback is always nice to hear and I am sure all enjoyed their evening. Next year we may try something different, any suggestions? What the boys got up to, while our girls were at the movies. Bob and Stuart Deadman kindly allowed us to go and see the work in progress on the restoration of their 1963 R195 International Logging Truck. What a great sight, Fire Engine Red paint work sitting on a brand new set of tyres. The progress is in its closing stages with the engine still to go in and interior fit out to finish off. Lets hope Bob has it ready to put on display at our 2018 Rally, it would be an awesome sight. Our Posh Picnic was a wash out due to the weather man getting it wrong again. Saturday nights TV weather showed a sunny Taupo. What went wrong? Thanks to Marty for arranging the venue for the afternoon at a very Posh Garden in Acacia Heights Rd. All was not lost and it was agreed that it would still go ahead as planned, picnic in the Clubrooms. Thank you to the couples and gentlemen that came dressed for the occasion, they all received chocolates and winners were Kelvin and Jan Trim who collected the chocolate money. Looking ahead to December. Lake Taupo Christmas Parade on Saturday 2nd December. Meet in Northcroft St 12.30pm and then we head out onto Lake Terrace for a 1.00pm start. Please look out for each other so we can keep our group together. Oldest car first! When all that is finished, it is off home to scrub up for our Christmas Party/Dinner at the Taupo Golf Club starting at 6.00pm. If you intend coming, please forward money to bank account or get your cash to Maureen. The Committee would love to have as many members as possible to celebrate another successful year our Club has had and ofcourse celebrate Christmas together and as Christmas get closer we will all be heading off to Family and Friends. Lastly, Pam and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Safe travels as you visit family and friends over the Holiday period.

Tony As previously indicated, with the committees full support, Kelvin and Jan Trim and their extended family will be preparing our Rally lunch and profit will go towards Jan’s granddaughter Megan who needs to raise $120,000 for an operation in the USA. If you wish to help Jan, do some baking or donate food towards the lunch, call Jan on 3789055

IF EVERYONE. If everyone who drives a car could lie a month in bed, With broken bones, and stitched up wounds, or fractures of the head, And there endure the agonies that many people do, They'd never need preach safety any more to me or you If everyone could stand beside the bed of some close friend, And hear the doctor say "NO HOPE " before the fatal end. And see him there unconscious, never knowing what took place The laws and rules of traffic, I am sure we'd soon embrace. If everyone could meet the wife and children left behind, And step into the darkened room where once the sunlight shined. And look upon the vacant chair, where Daddy used to sit, I'm sure each reckless driver would be forced to think a bit. If everyone would realise pedestrians on the street, Have just as much the right- of- way, as those upon the seat. And train their eyes for children, who run recklessly at play This steady toll of human lives would drop from day to day. If everyone would check his car, before he took a trip, For tyres worn, loose steering, wheels and brakes that fail to grip. And pay attention to his lights when driving roads at night Another score for safety could be chalked up in the fight. If everyone who drives a car could heed the danger signs Placed by the highway engineers, who also mark the lines. To keep the traffic in the lane, and give it proper space The accidents we read about would not have taken place. And last, if he who takes the wheel, would say a little prayer, And keep in mind those in the car depending on his care And make a vow and pledge himself, to never take a chance This great crusade for safety would suddenly advance. Lake Taupo Rally 9th/10th March 2018 2018 Rally will now be called the “Terrys Tyres Lake Taupo Rally.” Brett Morrow of Terrys Tyres has now come on board to be the prime sponsor of our Rally. Rally routes are in the planning stage and all going well. The Rally will now start from the Clubrooms as it has been decided that for Health and Safety reasons it would not be a good idea to start the Rally from Runanga Street. We will be calling on members to help out and show your support for this event. We would love you to enter the Rally, but if for some reason you are not going to, we would welcome more volunteers to help on the day. Please contact Tony Mannington on 073771598 or 0274942445 if you are available to help and haven’t already advised me. Tony

Rotorua VCC 6th Annual Car Show Hi there, the Rotorua branch of the VCC are holding their 6th Annual Car Show at the Rotorua Lakefront Domain on Sunday, 21 January 2018. It is very informal, anyone can display, and there is a gold coin requested from drivers which will be donated to St John Ambulance. We regularly raise $1000 for St Johns with donations from drivers and the public. Clubs and groups will be able to display their cars together, and those that arrive early (gates open 8.00am) will get the best positions under the trees. This event is very laid back, with Rotorua’s excellent “Eat Street” full of bistros, cafés and bars right next to the venue, and big shady trees to sit under for those wanting to picnic. The Soundshell markets and other holiday market activities will also be adjacent to the show. It could be an excellent run and day out for a club. We have shortened the timing for this event from 10am to 2pm based on driver feedback. We have had over 200 vehicles in the last two shows, and have had write ups in the local papers and we have had good articles with photos in NZ Classic Car magazine too. If you wish to know anything more, please ask by return email or phone. Anyone and everyone is welcome! Regards, David Tomlinson Rotorua VCC

You may have noticed Club members wearing our logo as a badge. These are available for $8.00 each. Ask a committee member when next at the club if you wish to purchase one. Reunion Booklet: If you don’t already have a copy of our 50th Reunion booklet please ask for a copy next time you are at the Club.

Can you help! Request for wedding cars.Tony (Our Club Captain)has had the following email, and also a follow up saying that they really need two cars not one. If any of you are interested in doing weddings please contact Melanie direct. Her email address is: Good evening, We spoke earlier today in regards to whether there might be someone available to assist for my sister's wedding. The details are below: Date: 24 February 2018 Location: Te Moenga Lodge, Acacia Bay Time: 3.00 - 6.00 Car would be needed to transport small bridal party from Waipahihi area to the above location, then for the photos afterwards. Her only direction was that she doesn't want a boy racer or muscle car - we are just looking at availability and an indication of cost in the first instance, and photos of the vehicle if possible. We would also like to know if owner is willing to drive or if someone else can if necessary - I'm not really sure how this part works so advice is appreciated. Thank you for your assistance, and let me know if you have any questions. Kind Regards, Melanie Ensor

A gathering of Taupo VCC members.

Posh Picnic Sunday 20th November 2017 The weather forecast was for great weather, but down came the rain and it turned really cold, so we went to Plan B and had a shared afternoon tea in the Clubrooms, We had a reasonable turnout considering the weather and enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. To pass the time away we had a short Quiz with 12 questions. Murray Stanley and his friend, Ross managed to answer all 12 questions and got presented with two chocolate frogs each. We also presented a prize to Kelvin and Jan Trim for best dressed of the day, with consolation prizes (more choc frogs) to Murray & Ross, and Pam and Tony. See photos hereunder. 15

Hopefully we will be able to do the Posh Picnic Run we had organized for this year, next year, same time. (One less job to do next year.)

Kelvin & Jan, best dressed.

Tony & Pam.
