Chairman’s Report Congratulations must go to Glenys and her team, and to all others who helped in any way towards making the S I Easter Rally the success that it was. The May Club meeting will be followed by the Annual General Meeting. The Club can only run successfully with help from a large number of volunteers, so I would urge you all to please give some serious thought to putting your name forward for one of the many essential positions. The Executive and the Social Committee and Rally Committee in particular need new members to replace those who are stepping down this year. Nomination forms are included in this copy of the Rumour. Nominations, and any business that anyone wants to raise at the AGM must be in the hands of the secretary by Thursday May 17th. If required, nominations for unfilled positions will be called for from the floor at the AGM. As a result of questions asked at the last meeting the minutes of the Executive Meetings will be made available in the rooms for members to read. The format of the monthly meetings will be discussed at the next meeting so if you have any thoughts on this subject please bring them along. Personally I feel that the less formal the meetings are the better. Cheers

Wednesday Run - 4th April.

I didn't count the cars but 45 people turned up for the run .The day wasn't too bad when we set off. We went south to Tweed Street and out to Otatara before turning into Curran Road. From there we wended our way out to the Riverton Highway and through Wallacetown. It was then over the Oreti River before turning right into Oporo Flat Road. After a bit of cruising around the Western Districts we then headed to Otautau for lunch. Thanks for a good run that wasn't too long which some of the older members appreciate. The get together and social interaction at the lunch stop is what makes these runs so enjoyable, well done Wayne.

Louisa, Allan and Fay

Russell’s Ramblings Vincents at the Mecca Museum. In a room at the rear of the museum there is a collection of Vincents that looks like a day’s work just off the production line. Of interest, standing alone is a Black Shadow completed in 2007 from parts supplied by the Vincent Owners Spares Company except for some electrics and carbs. It was decided to manufacture the frame and forks to prove that any part could be supplied for a post war Vincent. The bike, completed in 2007 was handed to the Vincent Owners Club where it featured in a UK magazine and was shown at events and rallies, although most people thought it was another concours example of a 1950’s Stevenge built Vincent. It was acquired in 2008 for the Nelson Classic Motorcycle Collection. Members may remember Vincent designer Phil Irving chaperoned by Noman Hayes speaking at the Vintage Car Club Clubrooms. He spoke of his experiences in the British Motorcycle industry. It was very informative. Vincents on display at the Classic Motorcycle Mecca are: 1952 & 2007 Black Shadows, 1951 Comet OHV 119, 1951 Rapide Series C & 1955 Black Knight. The local Branch has for sale quality copies of a 1908 De Dion sales booklet. This is of 40 pages with all models for that year with pictures, details of extras and successful competition results. A must for all De Dion enthusiasts at $35 plus post $2 NZ. Contact Russell McIvor, 407 Racecourse Road Invercargill or email russdiane@xtra.co.nz. More detail soon on the NZ Vintage Car Club Targa event in October. It starts in Invercargill, travels to Dunedin and on to Queenstown. Our Club has been asked for co-operation in Invercargill. It promises to be quite a big event. Watch this space.

Russell.
