49th Vintage Car Run. Held on the 27th January, another superb summers outing, with a great turn out. We left at 10am, travelled through Ashburton heading toward Dromore, onto Methven over the Rakaia Gorge arriving at Terrace Station at Hororata. We lunched under the magnificent trees in the garden, while Mr & Mrs Foster made us welcome and gave us the history of the 19th century property that is now a charitable trust established in 2002 to preserve and maintain the homestead and associated buildings. The homestead is primarily the family home which has been added to and altered many times. The earliest part of the house came from Australia in the mid 1850’s as a pre- cut three roomed house. The farmland has been sold off over the years but the house remains, maintained as a sort of museum. The founder was Sir John & Rose Hall, John was a pioneer, run holder, politician, and democratic reformer. He became Mayor of Christchurch, & 12th Prime minister of NZ.
