Hello all.

You will see further through this Tri-Car a report on what the club intends to do with regards to all the Cruise Ships visiting our port. It has been thoroughly discussed at our committee meetings, and Colin Hawke and Grant Mitchell, who are the instigators of this and have done a tremendous amount of behind the scenes work. This was also discussed at the last Noggin and was very well received. Read what Colin and Grant are saying, and PLEASE support this new venture for us. It appears that it could be an extremely great fundraiser for us, so hopefully no increases in rallies or subscription fees in the future. We will need support from everyone. Not just to display cars, but also to do morning/afternoon teas and lunches for the helpers. As a Club we are committed for the Cruise Ship Season.

The rally season is upon us. The Mt Cook entry forms are out. Get your accommodation sorted now and your entry forms in early. Michelle needs numbers for the caterer, so if you know you are going but haven't got your entry form in yet, please let her know by txt, email or phone asap. The caterers are new so a big learn for them as well.

Thanks to those who attended the open run with Ashburton. Keep a watch on the list in the Tri-Car for upcoming events. Some dates may have to change because of timing with Cruise Ships coming in.

The All American day is coming up. We may need parking assistance with this. Contact Grant Stewart if you could help. 0273786149. Don't be shy to make contact.

The Safari Weekend is in November. Barry Smith can give you more info on this.

If you are thinking of entering the Vintage only Rally, then get your entries in. Numbers are limited. Further out is the National South Island Easter Rally being held in Nelson next year, so if this is on your radar, then you might want to think about booking accommodation for this. That's it from me.

Happy motoring

Cheers Alistair.

CANCER RALLY THANKYOU.

Hi everyone, firstly a massive thankyou to all those who donated prizes, or money for me to purchase gifts for the raffle. It resulted in a fabulous lineup for our winners to choose from and everyone who won was very pleased. We drew 60 prizes so a very rewarding effort. The Cancer Society were extremely delighted to receive $3355.00 into their bank account from our rally day. Grateful thanks to the Waihi School at Winchester for allowing us to use the school as our venue. I wonder how many visited the Museum. Its amazing. If you didn’t get to see it, then lookout for when they advertise their open day and make the effort. A real credit to the school. A special thanks must go to the Headmaster Mr Alan Short. I don’t think I have ever seen so many people so spellbound/ transfixed with a speaker before. I wish I had a headmaster like that when I was at school. A huge thankyou to all of you who attended the rally. Without the support of our members, we could not run this event. The funds all go to our Local South Canterbury Cancer Society, so its nice that nothing is skimmed off the top to be used elsewhere. My grateful thanks to all those who helped out on the day.

Thank you all so much, and please mark your calendars now for the last Sunday in August 2024

Once again thanks one and all, from Nola and her team of hardworking helpers.

S.C.V.C.C. PARTS DEPARTMENT

October report.

September is over half way gone, and not long before we start preparing our vehicles for the Mount Cook Rally. That elusive part you may need to do just that last minute job might be down here at the Parts Shed.

We have parts coming in on a regular basis which we are very grateful for and our Wednesday Team manage to find shelf space for them.

The Gear Box Container Roof has been cleared of the items stored on it and now we can assess the problem with leaking and form a plan to fix it.

Our Wednesday's are well attended by our team who do a great job of sorting and finding space to put any parts coming in so well done to them.

Join us on any Wednesday to pitch in and perhaps stay for a cuppa, from 9am through to 12noon.

AUTOMOTIVE NOSTALGIA

Your committee, and attending members at the recent Noggin & Natter, have agreed to a proposal to bus paying cruise-ship passengers from the upcoming Cruise visits to Timaru, between Monday 20 November 2023 & Sunday 17 March 2024, to our club-rooms for vehicle displays, arts & craft sales, and memorabilia = a total of 12 cruise ship visits at this stage, with likely more to be included.

Our plan is to bring paying ship passengers to our club-rooms, where you, our membership, bring your vehicles/motorcycles along for each cruise ship day, for display, and remain with them to show them/explain to our guests - we want this experience to be as 'interactive' as possible for our visitors. We envisage 15 or so cars, with a 'mix' of styles and years to be on display at the club-rooms front and rear yards. We intend to have a morning and afternoon session, so we would like those attending on each date to be able to stay for lunch, and do BOTH displays. We would love to have some motorcycles on display in our club-rooms & possibly outdoors, along with the Cecil Wood Tri-Car.

We have secured 2-3 'unique & eclectic' craft people to attend our club-rooms, to display and sell their wares to passengers - to entice not only those interested in our Automotive Nostalgia encounter, but to ensure we provide a 'point of difference' to what else is on offer to cruise passengers within our district. We also have the opportunity to sell some of our SCVCC memorabilia during each of the sessions. Our guests will also be offered morning/afternoon tea, access to our Library & Parts Dept, and we will run continuous old rally and other available footage via our TV systems. The cruise ship dates are also in the Tri car and we would like to hear from those of you yet to hear about, and then commit to this project. It needs full support from our membership, and not just committee members and the regular helpers please! Grant MITCHELL is handling the roster of people and their vehicles and he will likely contact many of you to get details of your vehicles and if/when you might be available. Should be good fun and not onerous at all... Grant's cell phone contact is: 021 296 1126 Maybe give him a text or a call around your availability please.

(Cruise ship visit dates are included in “Calendar of Events” page)

MID WEEK RUN – 14TH SEPTEMBER 2023

On a warm and sunny day 18 cars left the clubrooms travelling via King St and Opitua Rd to Quarry Rd. We then travelled through the Scenic Reserve and turned right at the bridge then left onto Gleniti Rd. Turning right into Pages Rd we travelled on Kellands Hill Rd, Cartwright Rd, and left onto SH8. Turning left into Rolling Ridges Rd, left into Fraser Rd, then right onto Brockley Rd. Left into Hadlow Rd, right into Rosebrook Rd, we then turned left into Fairview Rd and proceeded to the Fairview Hall for afternoon tea and a social hour. A lovely relaxing drive, great views and good company.Thank you to Pat and Rodney for organizing the afternoon. As this was the last run for the season, our thanks go tom all the organisers of the runs. See you next season.

On an overcast Sunday, a grand total of 134 vehicles, covering a variety of models and top speeds ranging from 80 to over 300 km/h, materialised in the Caroline Bay northern carpark, ready for a run for a charitable cause – the gatekeepers tent sometimes resembling Grand Central Station with the people surround it, and the nearby raffle ticket sellers doing a roaring trade. With the briefing had, the participants vehicles headed up Virtue Avenue at almost walking pace, speeding up when travelling through a labyrinth of normally low-traffic side-streets through Seaview, before reaching the CBD and Port. Headed south via Timaru's cemetery, it was a trip down the hill into Redruth, and out to Fairview – a few were seen taking glances across fields at Oliver Irving's Ford Falcon collection on the way past. Now heading northwest, we soon reached the rolling hills of Claremont, Hadlow and Rosewill, heading towards Washdyke on the newly sealed Spur Road, encountering a number of houses that were not present 10 years prior. With the steam coming from Washdyke's various boilers in the rear vision mirror, it was a trip into the flat crisscross road grid of Kerrytown, before reaching Pleasant Point – a compulsory pie, ice-cream and relief stop for many, cars filling up every available space with a couple proudly stating '{colourful word} cancer' on their windscreens.

With ice-creams soon melted, it was a trip across the Opihi and through the rolling hills of Waitohi and Hilton to travel in and around Geraldine, heading down towards Winchester

where a 'world tour' was had of its streets. Headed north, we were soon greeted outside the Waihi School by flags and Grant Stewart waving us all in – attendants placing us orderly in the adjacent paddocks.

With the queues to the food caravan and coffee car long, it was a great time to have a close look at the Waihi School – a private preparatory school for year 4 to 8 students, recently made full co-ed. In the early afternoon we all found ourselves in an assembly service, the principal, Allan Short, giving a great presentation on the school. With the raffles drawn, a number of us took the time to explore the school proper, looking through various storeys of the original Waihi building – the well resourced classrooms often having a fun atmosphere largely unseen when this author was at school. One interesting room of note was the Museum, ably supervised by Norm Bunt, where a number of 19th and 20th century artifacts were encountered.

Overall the Daffodil Rally was an interesting one for those that attended – thanks to the organisers, and to Waihi School for a great day's motoring.

Continental Rally Sunday 10th September 2023

Starting off at the Clubrooms in Redruth, we travelled via Beaconsfield Road, Rocky Hundreds Road and Fairview Road to Cave, then via Taiko, McLeod’s and Robinson to Pleasant Point. Then it was on to Geraldine via Halstead Road, Seven Sisters Road, Goodwin Road and Earl’s Road before heading up Highway 72 to Mayfield for a lunch stop at the Mayfield Country Pub.

After Lunch it was on to Methven where we were guests of Bruce Williams at his Citroen vehicle collection. After a very informative time there it was on to check out more vehicles at Neil McDonald’s Mechforce Engineering. Some very interesting vehicles in this collection. Thanks to Kevin Manchester for organising the Rally.
