This extensive collection dates back as far as prior to Captain Cook up to modern times. Approximately 30 kilometres south of Gladstone is Lake Awoonga, Gladstone’s water source and a popular recreation area for locals and keen fishermen. Lake Awoonga can hold at maximum capacity 777,000 mega litres and is regularly stocked with barramundi and mangrove Jack fingerlings.
