Vineyard Preservation Trust
For 50 years, Vineyard Preservation Trust has safeguarded the Island’s most iconic historic landmarks, restoring and preserving 17 distinctive properties across four Vineyard towns. Stately, classic, quirky, and beloved, the Trust’s landmarks include a working farm, formal gardens, green spaces, two of New England’s most architecturally significant churches, and the flagship Carnegie Heritage Center in the heart of Edgartown. Its portfolio also includes storefronts, workspaces for Island nonprofits, eight historic venues for public and private events, and the whimsical Flying Horses Carousel—the oldest platform carousel in the country. The Trust maintains and preserves these historic places so they remain open, active, and welcoming. Island nonprofits and community partners animate them with concerts, farmers markets, lectures, weddings, and celebrations that connect generations. With the support of both residents and visitors, these landmarks are not only protected but also kept vibrant and central to Island life. By safeguarding and sharing these treasured places, Vineyard Preservation Trust ensures that the Vineyard’s unique character, culture, and heritage continue to shape daily life on the Island—and inspire generations to come.
