Lindsey invited the kids to sit around the campfire as the sky turned a warm orange. “Tonight, we’re sharing stories,” she said, “and
learning why respect is important— at camp and everywhere else.”

Before they started, Lindsey reminded them,
“Remember to sit a safe distance from the fire, and never play around it. Respecting the fire means we can enjoy it safely.”

Lindsey began her story, her voice calm and soothing.
“Once upon a time, there was a young camper named Oliver,” she started. The kids leaned in, excited to hear more.

“Oliver loved to explore,” Lindsey continued, “but he didn’t always respect the plants and animals around him.” She paused, letting the kids imagine Oliver’s adventures in the forest.

“One day, Oliver met a wise old owl,” Lindsey said, “who taught him that every plant and animal plays a special role in nature.” The kids listened intently, fascinated by the story.

“From that day on, Oliver treated every plant and animal with respect,” Lindsey shared. “He learned that respecting nature made his adventures even more special.”

When the story ended, Lindsey asked,
“What does respect mean to you?”
The kids shared their ideas, talking about respecting each other, nature, and even themselves.

One by one, the kids took turns telling their own stories about respect—whether it was respecting their friends, family, or things that belonged to others.

“Respect helps us all get along and makes camp a happier place,” Lindsey said. The kids nodded, realizing how much respect mattered in their daily lives.

Before they left the campfire, Lindsey showed the kids how to clean up their area.
“Leaving our campsite clean is one way to respect nature,” she said. The kids helped tidy up, understanding how small actions showed respect.

As they sat quietly under the stars, Lindsey asked, “What will you remember about respect?” The kids thought about it, feeling grateful for the lesson.

Think About:
1. Why is it important to respect the plants and animals around us?
2. How can showing respect make camp more enjoyable for everyone?
3. What are ways you show respect to others?
Let's Work Together: When we show respect for others and nature, we create a happier, more peaceful place for everyone to enjoy.
I Will: I will remember to respect the people, animals, and environment around me, making sure my actions show kindness and care.
The Importance of Knowing: Knowing how to respect each other and the world around us helps us build strong relationships and appreciate the beauty of nature and friendship.
