Ancient people made mummies to honor the dead and prepare them for the afterlife.

Mummies Were
Made In ancient Egypt, people believed in life after death. They made mummies so the soul could return to the body and live forever.



The Mummification Process
Making a mummy took weeks! The body was cleaned, dried with special salts, wrapped in linen, and placed in a decorated coffin or sarcophagus.



Famous Mummies
Some mummies are worldfamous, like King Tutankhamun of Egypt, Ramses II, and Ötzi the Iceman found frozen in the Alps.



Tombs and Pyramids Egypt’s pharaohs were buried in pyramids or hidden tombs in the Valley of the Kings. Inside, treasures and food were placed for the afterlife.
