On ursday,February27,the membersof theClassof2027were afforded anopportunity toexperienceadayofcommunityand re ectionattheCommunityofthe Franciscan FriarsoftheRenewal’s MostBlessedSacramentFriaryinNewark. BrotherAugustin,CFR, Brother Andre,CFR,andFatherSebastian,CFR hostedtheretreat.
eSophomore class rstenjoyed atourwhere theylearned the spirituallyrichhistoryof thebuildingwhichforover100 yearsserved as amonasteryforagroup ofcloisteredDominican nuns. ebrief touropened up adiscussionon differentfacets ofreligious life inthe CatholicChurch.
Nextcameanopportunityforthestudentsto puttheir faith into actionthrough service. eclassbrokeinto twogroups. Whileone group made sandwiches fortheFriars toshare with theirneighbors, theothergroup assembled necessity bagsforthehomeless and workingpoor. In eachnecessity bagstudentsplaced a toothbrush, lip balm,handwarmer, granolabar,andapairofsocks. Before theygottothatstep,though,thestudents prayed for thosewhowill bethe recipientsofthese necessitybags andeachstudentwrotean encouraging note,assuringthem thattheyare seen,known,andloved byGodand others. e groupofstudents workingonthe necessity bagsthenjoinedthestudents andFriarsmakingsandwiches.
