WHAT’S ON

Steampunk Comes to Eskbank House

With its Victorian furniture, sandstone buildings, blacksmith tools and textiles, Eskbank House and Museum was just made for the upcoming Steampunk event to be held on Saturday 11 July 2015, from 2.006.00pm.

“Eskbank House will be opening its doors and collections to Steampunk fans to have a hands on Victorian experience,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Maree Statham. “Whether you’re a seasoned Steampunker or just want to explore the old world collection of Eskbank House and soak up the atmosphere, there will be plenty to experience at this unique event. Eskbank House has always been at the heart of Lithgow so its rich industrial history make it the perfect location for a Steampunk event.” Visitors will be able to handle objects from the Eskbank collection which usually remain behind glass, and pose with carriages and furniture normally kept behind barriers. Professional photographers will be on hand to do photo shoots or visitors can capture it all on their own cameras. High tea will be served mid-afternoon and there will be plenty of period games to play including croquet, badminton and tea duelling. Steampunk themed stalls will be available for those who wish to take home a memento of their day or add to their costumes. For those who wish to make a weekend of it, come in

costume to dinner at Salud Restaurant in the evening (call 6352 1740 to book). Then on Sunday the Zigzag Brewery in Brewery Lane Lithgow will be launching their limited edition brew complete with new label just for Eskbank Steampunk. They will also be providing tours of their historic site at 10.00am and 2.00pm finishing off each tour with a beer tasting. Steampunkers may also like to visit one of Lithgow’s heritage sites like one of our gorgeous sandstone railway stations for more photo opportunities. The

State Mine Heritage Park, Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum and Hartley Historic Site will all be open on the Sunday too. Tickets to Eskbank Steampunk cost $55 and include High Tea and a free photo. More details can be found on the Eskbank Steampunk Facebook Event Page. Bookings can be made by calling Lithgow Visitor Information Centre on 1300 760276 which can also help with accommodation.
