Diane Sieker ANZAEDITOR@REEDERMEDIA.COM The Anza Racing Mowers started the season with a bang at the track located behind the Diner 371 in Anza Saturday, May 20. A breezy, yet sunny day brought racers and fans out in droves for the opening
event. Returning for the 2017 season were such track heroes as Robert and Sierra Love, Don Wimpee, Ken and Debby Eberly, Rebecca and Steve Rebuck, Don Watson and the Rozanski family, plus many other local favorites.
Newcomer Matthew Wroblewski from Norco track tested his machine, a “Craftsman lawn mower, that still cuts grass,” he said. He dialed in his machine and commented that it needed additional modifications to make it more competitive. It was fun for spectators to see him
and all the other racers rip around the race course. For anyone that appreciates dirt track racing, the race-modified mowers will not disappoint. The

Hamilton K-8 school held an open house May 18, 2017, hosted by the PTSA and many volunteers. Parents and families were treated to a free baked potato bar, featuring chili, cheese, chives, sour cream and butter. Eating healthy was fun as the children created their own culinary masterpieces. After the meal, excited children lead their mothers, fathers and siblings to the classrooms, where they proudly showed off their clever projects. Teachers were on hand to explain the assignments, chat about their students and welcome siblings. Some of the projects were journals, dioramas, construction paper self portraits and copies of sculptures and paintings by famous artists. A scavenger hunt was held during the event, with prizes for the kids. “I love open house it gives all of the parents a chance to see what their children have worked so hard on all year and a chance to talk

Firefighters make quick work of Aguanga wildfire Diane Sieker ANZAEDITOR@REEDERMEDIA.COM A brush fire was reported at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in Aguanga. The incident occurred on a vacant lot at the intersection of Canter Court and Wild Horse Circle in the community of Lake Riverside Estates. Smoke from the blaze could be seen from Highway 371. Firefighters responded to reports of the fire and the first arriving engine discovered approximately one half acre engulfed in flames. No evacuations were required and no injuries reported. A home and outbuildings just west of the incident were not damaged. First on scene was Lake Riverside Estates Security Officer Randy Fire trucks from Station 77 line the street where a brush fire broke out May 18. The station responded within minutes to the report of a fire at Canter Court and Wild Horse Circle in Lake Riverside Estates. Diane Sieker photo
