A case study project that addresses innovation within materials, digital technologies, and design by conceptualising and developing a collection of 12 garments by experimentation with several key circularity principles.

These included the use of zero-waste methodologies, utilisation of the fashion digital design software CLO 3D for reducing physical sampling, adherence to mono-materiality that enables easier sorting and up-cycling, and the integration of an innovative material with TencelTM Reb braTM Technology yarns by Lenzing.

My experience with the Stockholm based made to measure customisable fashion brand heijne began as a traineeship during my studies at the Swedish School Of Textiles. I was assisting the founder and fashion designer in every aspect of the brand.

Collection

Planet S is a collaboration between heijne and the artist Madeleine Hatz. The collection is named after one of Madeleine paintings displayed for her exhibition at The Swedish Royal Academy Of Fine Arts.

Digital reproductions of selected paintings were printed on silk. The printed silk was translated into garments and scarves. For the showpieces we challenged ourselves to create dresses by up-cycling leftover silk fabric and scarves. The dresses were assembled on a mannequin and partly hand-sewn.

Material Innovation Initiative

Through a four-phase approach that involved testing material innovations with a transformative potential contributing to circularity and climate action, a case was developed for strategic investments in innovative materials. The initiative led to a commitment to innovation and the objective to launch x6 innovative materials annually and elevate the percentage of products made with these alternatives to predominant materials such as cotton, leather, and polyester.

“Acne Studios presents the latest denim pieces for Spring/Summer 2019.

On 14 March, Acne Studios releases its Spring/ Summer 2019 denim range of workwear silhouettes and 90s Americana archetypes, featuring the iconic 1996 and 1997 jeans in various colours and washes, in addition to brand new patchwork styles made out of up-cycled denim. … Varsity jackets, a patchwork t-shirt dress, raglan hoodies and a bucket hat round out the reused denim range, with details such as tonal colour blocking, sporty striped elasticated trims and sewn-on patches.”
