Gordon Glentwort has been using VikingGenetics sires for a long time, and his herd Sansrosa produce in average 585 kg milk solids per cow in a dairy season (20142015). In the previous season they have set a herd production record in New Zealand with an average of 608 Kg milk solids per cow.

VikingRed (Swedish Red – Finnish Ayrshire – Red Dane)

Easy Calvings VikingRed is the strongest red breeding programme in the world when it comes to calving ease. The outstanding easy calvings in combination with the low incidence of still born calves is a good ground for a good economy of the herd. This does not only give the heifer a good start in her lactation but it also means more calves for replacements and sale. For pure bred heifers the average of calving problems is only about 4% and some Viking sires have a low frequency of calving problems which is about 1%.

VikingRed is therefore an excellent choice to use on heifers.

Udder Health Mastitis and high cell counts are causing big economic losses in high production dairies. The VikingRed has

substantially lower cell counts compared to Holsteins and very low incidence of mastitis. In the breeding program, information on cell counts and clinical mastitis (reported by vets) are included.

Longevity Traits like udder health, fertility, calving ability and udder conformation all have a proven effect on longevity.

Healthy cows live longer, it is as simple as that. The VikingRed cows are healthy, have easy calvings and are able to resist stress caused by high production.

Inbreeding is a growing problem in some pure breeding herds, especially among Holstein. Decreased lifetime pro­ duction and fertility problems are among the main concerns.

VikingGenetics UK has a solution for farmers facing these kinds of struggles: ProCROSS, which is the only scientifically proven crossbreeding program in the world.

ProCROSS is not only an efficient program, but also easy to understand and manage day-to-day. ProCross is founded on two basic and simple principles. The first one is related to a crossing between dairy breeds with wide difference in their genetic make-up. The mix of VikingRed, Montbéliarde and VikingHolstein provides this diversity because the three

breeds combine and compensate very well their strong and weak points making a perfect balance.

The second principle is the ability to retain more hybrid vigour through three breeds in a rotation, rather than a two-way combination. Extra Benefits The Montbeliarde is a breed that shows extra muscle. This makes the cow stronger. A frontend of a Montbeliarde is wide & deep, just as her flank. The rear end is also wide, especially between the hips. That extra muscle is a benefit, and the Montbeliarde users make more money from selling bull calves and cull cows.

Fertility The Montbeliarde breed is one of the most fertile breed in the world. The rump structure from the Montbeliarde cow is ideal. They have a nice slope to the rump and a high tail implantation. This is the main reason that the Montbeliarde’s are easy calving cows. Because of the strong, wide body and muscles this is a cow that always shows good condition.
