Migrants’ cross borders for a variety of reasons, but they all share the common goal of creating a better life for themselves and their families. Some migrants are undocumented, while others have temporary status. Regardless of their legal status, migrants in a precarious situation often occupy the lowest-paid jobs in society and have limited access to basic rights and services.

Inter-state Migration is one of the major issues in India. Migration does not only affect the source but also the destination points at the same time. Migrants and their families face several issues related to education and health due to poverty. Discussing about “Empowerment” of migrant workers is the necessity today. It gives the opportunity for them to think about better future, by addressing the current issues. There are several definitions of migrant workers given in the international instruments. According to the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families 1990, the term migrant worker refers to a person who is to be engaged, is engaged or has been engaged in a remunerated activity in a State of which he or she is not a national”.

Why should we care?

Migrant worker children are particularly vulnerable to involvement in criminal activities due to various socio-economic factors. The lack of proper guidance, supervision, and access to quality education often pushes these children towards the fringes of society, making them susceptible to exploitation and engagement in unlawful activities.Limited access to educational opportunities deprives these children of essential life skills and knowledge, making them more susceptible to peer pressure and negative influences. The transient nature of migrant work, coupled with the challenges of adapting to new environments and cultures, can have a profound impact on the mental health of migrant worker children. Depression and other mental health issues often go unnoticed and untreated due to stigma and lack of access to mental healthcare services. Illiteracy remains a significant impediment to the socio-economic development of migrant worker children in Maharashtra. The absence of formal education opportunities and the prevalence of child labor contribute to high illiteracy rates among this vulnerable population. The linguistic diversity of Maharashtra can pose challenges for migrant children, especially those who speak different regional languag-

The idea of creating the zones on the site starts from the thought process of solving the proplem of different age group of childrens . The site has been divided into three zones that includes different activites for different age groups. The skill development centre is kept near the 30M wide road of the plot to make it easily accesible to all the students near the locality, For the skill centre the tree itself shapes the building creating multiple courtyards and gather spaces throughout the centre. Whereas the girls and boys hostel is kept near the existing school leaving the area of playground in front of it for the childrens to play and interact. The public buildings like community hall and the healthcare are kept at the centre of the site to make it accessible to the local community and the childrens on the site as well.

Skill centre

Most of the migrant worker childrens in Jalna are not getting proper education also even if some childrens are getting good level of education , they are working at places which dosent require any qualification. The idea of the skill centre was to create an equal opportunity level for the livelihood of the childrens who are not getting enough skillset to compete. The skill centre is one of the most important part of the complex where students learn different skill that are according to the industry standards . The design of the skill centre is considered as a social learning hub for the students where they interact and learn the skills which helps in improving there future.

While considering the form of the building the microclimate played a very important role of which orienting the buldings into N-S direction and adding multiple courtyard spaces which acts as a spillout area for childrens. Planting the trees in an appropriate locations to shade the building from harsh sun. Adding necessary sitting areas in the courtyard and many such things that makes the centre interactive and open for lerning.

Hostel is being designed for the children whose migrates for the sugarcane cutting to different states frequently and not able to takecare of the education of their child. Either they takewith them which breaks there regular studies and children miss there development stage or they keep the child with the grandparent who are not able to take care of them peoperly. Giving a hostel facility to the children allows the parent to work outside with thinking about the education of the child and also children gets the opportunity to follow the aspiration. The design of the hostel are made as much interactive as possible . In both the hostel ramp has been added as a social element considering the child behaviour of running wherever they get the space. Use of the courtyard and clay tile jaali facade makes the design even more interesting

GIRLS HOSTEL

The deign process of the hostel corelates with the sun direction and angle, in both the cases giving high priority to the creation of gathering space and playfull spaces are kept at the front. In girls hostel connecting bridge plays that role of adding a social element to the design, The image below sec BB’ shows the sectiion through courtyard and also the section also explains how the facade changes its behaiour when it is south facing and when it North facing . While in case of boys hostel the L- shaped form of the building open up to a big landscape which has enough playfull expeirence shaded by the trees.

COMMUNITY HALL

Many NGOS organise community based activities for the migrant worker childrens 2-3 times in a month and that involve certain activities that improve the technical, interactive and social skills of the childrens which helps in overall personality development. The idea was to create a space for such activities that involve both indoor and outdoor events . A complex also include a small healthcare for the regular checkup of the children and also in case oof emergencies.

At the heart of our institute lies a sanctuary of serenity amidst the bustling energy of Mumbai—the courtyard and social terraces. The courtyard, with its inviting pathways and secluded alcoves, serves as a focal point for gatherings, discussions, and moments of reflection. Meanwhile, the social terraces offer panoramic views of the city skyline, providing the perfect backdrop for networking events, outdoor workshops, and collaborative brainstorming sessions. Whether basking in the warmth of the sun or under the twinkling stars, these outdoor spaces foster a sense of community and connection, enriching the learning experience beyond the confines of traditional classrooms. In the embrace of our courtyard and social terraces, participants find not only a place to learn but also a home away from home—a place where relationships are nurtured, ideas flourish, and memories are made.

“Internship works”

During my architecture internship, I had the enriching opportunity to immerse myself in various projects, primarily focusing on villa designs and even delving into themed villa concepts. As a project architect, I was intricately involved in every stage of the design process, from conceptualization to execution. Collaborating closely with teams and clients, I translated visions into tangible blueprints, ensuring that each villa reflected not just architectural brilliance but also captured the unique essence desired, be it opulence, serenity, or thematic storytelling. This experience not only honed my technical skills but also fostered a deep appreciation for the symbiotic relationship between architecture and human experience, fueling my passion to continue creating spaces that inspire and resonate with people on a profound level.

Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the 4BHK villa project in a Balinese theme epitomized a tranquil oasis of luxury. Inspired by the serene beauty of Bali, the villa seamlessly blended traditional architectural elements with modern comforts. Lush landscaping, soothing water features, and intricate woodwork adorned the exteriors, inviting residents into a tropical paradise. Inside, airy living spaces and serene bedrooms overlooked verdant gardens, while spacious verandas and secluded courtyards offered tranquil retreats for relaxation. The villa was a testament to the transformative power of architecture, providing residents with a sanctuary to escape and immerse themselves in the timeless allure of Bali.
