V: Before we dig into your role in Resident Evil, I would like you to take us back to your childhood in Australia when you fell in love with the acting after being inspired by your cousin’s performance in a play. What do you remember feeling at that moment?

CONNOR:Ivividlyrememberthataftertheplay was over, I was left washed with emotion. Experiencing new feelings that made me challenge my own perception of life I started having new thoughts, ideas, andperspectiveswhichallowedme to develop a deeper understanding of myself and everything around me. In which I thought to myself, what a beautiful gift this play has given me. That’s when I knew that I wanted to tell stories, regardlessofwhatform, togivethatexperienceto others. What drew me into acting specifically was mycousin.WatchingsomeonethatIknowandlove deeply inspired me and made me comfortable enough to enroll in classes and I’ve found that acting is my medium to being a part of the storytellingindustry.

V: I also liked that you’ve described acting as a way to express yourself and to escape into a different world; I am curious to know then, how did you experience the journey of finding your authenticity as an actor in terms of acting style?

CONNOR: After years of acting training and learning so many different methods I began to develop my own method, which came from, at least for me, discovering what kind of stories I wantedtotell Thesestoriesbeingoftherelatable sort. Stories that are familiar enough to allow the audience to either learn something new or to be understood. Once I found this purpose, it formed my acting style. A style where one’s goal as an actoristodeliverthemostauthenticperformance to maintain the audience's belief in the story. It stems from ’Method Acting’ but no artist is the same, youjustcreateyourowninterpretationofit.

V: I can’t help mentioning that Australian shows were a big part of my childhood; I was wondering, which were your favorite Australian shows growing up?

CONNOR: I actually didn’t watch TV shows at all growingup!IwasmuchmoreafanoffilmthanIwas TV. However, 'Home and Away’ and ’Neighbours’ werecertainlyalwaysonthetelevisionahah

V: Something I found interesting about how you use your platform is that you advocate for mental health awareness for men. It makes me wonder, which are the negative aspects of this industry that you struggle with, and how do you look after yourself as an actor when it comes to mental health?

CONNOR: I think one of the hardest parts is knowinghowlittlecontrolyouhave Asartistswho havefoundourvoices, allwewantistobeableto tell our stories. Unfortunately, we have very little controlastowhenandhowthat’sgoingtohappen andthatcanbeaseriousharmtosomeone'ssense ofself-worth Itcanleadyoutostartdoubtingyour ability, your image, your relationships, which isn’t healthy.Ibelieveit’sjustaboutworkingtowardsa placementallywhereyoucanbeacceptingofboth thefactthatyouhaveavoiceandyoujustneedto wait for the right time to be heard, whilst also definingwhat“beingheard”isforyou.Howbigof an audience are you seeking? What stories do you wanttotell?Etc.

What is the piece of advice or a phrase that has been important and helpful during your career?

CONNOR:MyNonnohasalwaystoldmefroma very young age to “take the stairs, not the elevator” Bepatient You’llgetmoreoutofthejourneybynotrushingtothetop.

V: Let’s talk about your breakout role as ‘Simon’ in the upcoming Netflix series “Resident Evil.” Tell me, how did you know about the casting call, and what was your relationship with the franchise before auditioning?

CONNOR: I’ve been working with my fabulous teamformanyyearsnow, consistingofFoundation Media Partners, Paradigm Talent Agency, and Actors Management International They were the onestopassontheauditiontome.Intermsofthe show, I didn’t actually learn that it was about Resident Evil until I started filming, as it was very confidential. However, I was quite pleased once I did Gaming has been one of my main hobbies since I was young and I still remember my introduction to the RE franchise when at 15, I played Resident Evil 7. I loved that game so much that I playedtheremakesastheycameout,ResidentEvil 8, and even went back and played the original Resident Evil (1996). Incredibly fun games to platinumalso(PlayStationownerswillknowwhatI mean).SoIhadaverylovingrelationshipwiththe franchisepriortotheshow.

V: What was your reaction when you booked the role? Did you have a ‘’pinch me’’ moment?

CONNOR: It’s funny, about a month before booking the part I had actually decided to take a littlebreakfromacting.Ihadjustgraduatedfrom WAAPA (Western Australia Academy of PerformingArts)andfoundmyselfburnout.Thenthe audition for Simon came through and I ended up putting a tape down for the role as the quality writingofthescenescaughtmyattention.Acouple ofweekslater, myteamcalledmetotellmeIgot the part and I was going to South Africa for 6 months to film. The timing of all that definitely made it more surreal Also, it was just the most refreshing breath of air. I remember going for a verylongwalkwiththebiggestsmileonmyface.

V: I would like to know more about your process of creating this character; how did you get into his head and play him as genuine as possible?

CONNOR:Forme, thefirstthingistofigureout the given circumstances of the character. Why is Simonthewayheis? What’shappenedinhislifeto makehimthisway?ThenitbecomesabouthowI canempathizewithhim, allowingmetocreatethis fusionbetweenmyselfandtherole, givingthemost authentic performance I possibly can. You need to understand the character just as much as you understand yourself. Fortunately, I had a lot of information in regards to his family history through the Resident Evil franchise, which helped mebuildanevendeeperconnectionwithSimon.

V: Can you tell us about a scene you found hard to tackle or that you simply needed to pay more attention to do right?

CONNOR:Ifoundthisresponsiblyuponmyselfto use Simon to bring humanity back into the show. There are so many intense scenes throughout the episodes, however, alotoftheoneswithSimonare actually quite tame. More relatable teenage/high schoolscenes.Isawthisasanopportunitytoreally remindtheaudiencethatthesearejustacoupleof kids who are going through the worst things imaginable. So I paid more attention on getting thosescenesasauthenticaspossible.

V: In what way do you believe this experience has improved your maturity as an actor?

CONNOR: It’s shown me everything else that comes with being an actor. The more industrial side of things I guess. The press, the glam, the influence, the smoke, and mirrors, it’s redefined whatbeinganactorisforme.Itisn’tjustbeingan artistandmakingthatart, whichwasaheavy>>>

V: Before we wrap this interview, I want to ask you something that’s been in my mind lately that I feel some actors struggle with; I’m talking about respect. In your opinion, what is to be respected as an actor?

CONNOR:Ibelievepeopleshouldrespectactors

as they should all artists. Artists provide the world with ideas that you may not have ever thoughtofotherwise.Itchallengesusaspeopleto expand our understanding of ourselves, others, andourenvironment.Withdeeperunderstanding, it helps us to make sense of anything, making us more connected with our lives. I know that may be hard to understand and I probably didn’t articulatethatinthebestway, howeverattheend of the day, I think we’ll look back at not the things we had but the things we knew and the stories we told with that knowledge. This is what actorsrevolvetheirlivesaround.

AsIsaidbefore,Ibelieveit’sanobleprofession.

V: This last question is a little bit personal to me, as my nationality is Argentinian; I like to ask the people I interview what they know about the country, you know, its art and culture. So, I was wondering, have you ever seen or experienced any type of art/culture from Argentina?

CONNOR:Unfortunately,I’mafraidI’veexperienced very little to none Argentinian culture. However, I have been fortunate enough at a young age to experience a handful of different cultures and I believe there is much to learn from all cultures in the world. So I will be grateful when the day comes that I do get to experienceArgentinianartandculture.
