so... how’s the market? The lifestyle property market needs confidence to flourish and that is what we have seen return in the first half of this year. This confidence has been derived from four main sources. A strong metropolitan market. This is providing positive tangible examples of improvement in the real estate market. Most of our lifestyle property buyers live permanently in Melbourne and are witnessing first hand increased activity in the market place. The availability of money at very affordable rates of interest. We are now at historic lows in terms of interest rates and cheap money is hard to resist when you have secure employment. Although volatile at times the improved performance of the stock market has

provided positive sentiment. With most working Australians being connected to the stock market through their superannuation funds, this improved performance directly links to the sentiment of all asset classes. The fact that globally, the bad economic news has dissipated to tolerable levels. With the USA in recovery mode and it being the world’s largest economy, this good news is overshadowing the previous negative news from Europe. We believe that this Spring/Summer, post election, could prove to be the most buoyant for several years with all the above factors contributing. That and the fact that we live in one of the most beautiful parts of the planet and it happens to only be 90 minutes from a capital city of 4.5 million people places Surf Coast property in a very enviable position.

kevan way - surfcoastimages Now that he finally lives on the coast again, he seems to have transferred his passion for the ocean to the camera, with a bit less surfing. Digital Photography has opened up a whole new approach for him and also the technology to produce the large panoramic murals he specializes in. These are well suited to the large expansive walls in the modern coastal home. Most of the work is produced onto canvas, but can be reproduced on a vast range of materials, including glass, stone, metal and timber. Kevan conceived Surfcoastimages with a goal to introduce a diverse range of people to the ocean through his imagery. The first years were spent selling in a range of market venues, until setting up an outlet in Lorne in 2009. By 2011 it was decided to open a Gallery in Torquay. Kevan now has a large body of work, but not enough room to show it. The other Gallery criteria was to provide a space for other artists to display their talents. These combined elements have developed a successful creative environment and business.

Surfcoast photographer Kevan Way grew up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, travelled extensively, lived in Byron for a few years in the ’70’s, and finally moved to Melbourne in 1981. He was a Commercial Photographer based in Melbourne for 25 years. His work took him throughout Australia, shooting location work for Annual Reports and Company Profiles. This also allowed his interest in landscape photography to blossom, enabling him to set up a stock photo library. His commercial photo library contains 20,000 images, about 80% of which is the coastline of the Australian continent. This is marketed mainly through Getty Images in America. His trips to the ocean during this period were more about going surfing than taking pictures. He moved to Torquay with his family 7 years ago, and has had a directional change from a commercial interest in his photography, to a more art-based criteria.

Living on the Surf Coast, Rebecca’s photographic focal point centers on capturing the essence of the subject and illuminating it, by her innate understanding of light, which is celebrated in her artistic photographic compositions. “Inherent in the philosophy of my photography is my enjoyment of the natural world, particularly of Aireys Inlet and the Surf Coast, and the unique sense of place this region offers”. To be able to capture the quintessence of nature and essence of a moment transcends physical boundaries and transports viewers to the time and place of the experience. Sharing that joy and beauty with others is the essence of what inspires her to photograph. For projections she creates cinematic journeys via an anthology of macros of fauna, fungi and beach “treasures”, and the over arching landscapes, that collectively make up our unique environment. Currently she has an exhibition at Lorne’s prestigious Qdos Arts Gallery. Forty-four photos create a stunning black and white portraiture exhibition showcasing local Surf Coast men and women who positively shape the coastal experience. “The many faces, paths, lives, intertwined and connected by this rugged, raw, and gentle coastline.” “Pure nude images, not cosmetically enhanced, no need” is her modus operandi.
