Differences between Netapp 7 Mode and Netapp Cluster Mode December 11, 2017 Posted by: Vidhya Live Category: NetApp No Comments Differences between Netapp 7 Mode and Netapp Cluster Mode:

The Netapp cluster mode is an upgrade or an upgraded version of Netapp 7 Mode There are some major differences between clustered Data ONTAP configurations and the configurations, operating with Data ONTAP in 7-Mode. In the clustered data ONTAP, the cluster configuration contains two HA pairs, with each HA in a separate cluster and at physically different sites. While, the number of storage controllers is 4 in clustered mode, there are two storage controllers in 7 Mode. In case of the clustered configuration, the controllers are configured as two different HA pairs, with one on each site. In case of the 7 Mode, two controllers are configured as a single HA pair, with one controller at each site. A local failover is available in the clustered mode, but is not available in 7- Mode. In case of the clustered mode, a failover can happen at either site and without causing the overall switch-over of the complete configuration. In case of the 7-Mode, whenever a problem occurs at one of the site, the system gets fail over to the partner site also. In both the cases of Netapp 7 Mode as well as Netapp cluster mode, there is a single command for failover or switch-over. The cluster configuration does not support the DS 14 disk shelves and on the other hand, the 7-Mode configuration supports the DS 14 disk shelves. In both the cases of clustered mode and 7-Mode configurations, there is the use of two FC switch fabrics.
