Goodridge is conveniently located within walking distance of local services and facilities, such as schools, local shops, leisure facilities and public transport services.

Lots to do in the local area For everyday necessities, Goodridge is within walking distance of Scraptoft Village, a neighbourhood centre including Scraptoft Village Hall, Post Office, small supermarket, local shops and a children’s nursery.

For your wider needs, Humberstone and New Humberstone offer a good selection of amenities, including GP and medical centres, dentists, pharmacies and high street.

These amenities can all be accessed by bus from Beeby Road and Malsbury Avenue.

Good selection of local schools For families, there are a number of primary and secondary schools within walking distance, including Scraptoft Valley Primary School, Willowbrook Primary Academy, Fernvale Primary School and Hamilton Academy.

Travelling on foot and by bicycle

Footway/ cycleway within easy reach

Just 30 minutes of walking, spread throughout the day, can help to keep your heart healthy.

There is a shared footway/ cycleway that runs parallel to Beeby Road between Pavilion Road and Malsbury Avenue.

There are a number of walking routes surrounding Goodridge, providing access to local facilities including Scraptoft Post Office, a supermarket, Malsbury Avenue children’s play area, Peartree Stores, Cranbrook Road shops and a number of local schools.

When travelling further afield, Goodridge is conveniently located and benefits from local bus services, which are within walking distance, on Beeby Road and Malsbury Avenue.

Cycling is a healthy and increasingly popular way to travel around.

Local cycle routes provide access to adjacent areas of Scraptoft village as well as rail services, education and a wide range of amenities.

The map entitled “Leicester North� includes Scraptoft and illustrates all of the cycle routes, as well as local quiet routes available in the area.

Travelling by bus Catching the bus could be a quick, easy and cheap alternative to taking the car.

Goodridge is served by bus services offering quick and convenient access to local destinations, including Scraptoft, New Humberstone and Leicester city centre (30 minutes), stopping only a short walk from the train station. Bus services also serve Leicester train station and local education, retail and leisure facilities.

There are nearby bus stops to the south, on Beeby Road and Malsbury Avenue. These bus stops are served by Arriva bus services 55 (inbound and outbound) that operate Monday to Saturday.

Travelling by train Travelling by train can be a fast, simple and cost-effective alternative to car travel.

Why not combine train travel with cycling?

Leicester rail station is on the Midland Mainline and offers regular services to Birmingham (55 minutes), and Nottingham (40 minutes), as well as a number of local stops and destinations further afield, such as Lincoln and London.

The station is served by local bus services and is a 40-minute bus ride and short walk away.

You can also reach the station by bicycle in around 20 minutes. Remember, bicycles can be taken onto the majority of trains, and Leicester station conveniently provides over 200 bicycle parking spaces.

Travelling by public transport might not cost as much as you think, especially if you are undertaking regular journeys. A range of ticketing deals offer savings and the opportunity to spread payments, making the cost of your journeys easier to manage. Driving more sustainably When driving is the only option, there are ways to save money and the environment.

Drive smarter, save money

Sometimes there is no viable alternative to taking the car, however there are ways to reduce the amount of money you spend on driving and your environmental impact too.

Driving smarter means considering the type of car you own, the way you drive, the loads your carry and the type of fuel your car uses.

Why not try following the easy steps below: Check your revs - change up a gear before 2,500RPM (petrol) and 2,000RPM (diesel).

Anticipate road conditions - drive smoothly, avoiding sharp acceleration and heavy braking.

Use air conditioning sparingly - it significantly increases fuel consumption.

Check your tyre pressure regularly - under-inflated tyres are dangerous and can increase fuel consumption.

Switch the engine off - if you’re stuck in a jam and expect to be there for more than a minute or two.

When the only option is to drive, why not opt to share your journey?

Sharing your journey with just one other person could halve your fuel and parking costs, and reduce mileage and wear and tear on your car.

Leicestershire County Council offer a free journey share scheme, “LeicesterSHARE�, which enables you to look for other members who live close by and who might be making a similar car journey to yours. You can share the trip, save money and meet new people.
