INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

Hi i’m Victoria!

I am in my third year of Interior Design at Toronto Metropolitan Univers ity (formerly Ryerson) I am a multidisiplinary designer and artist who is in pursuit of understanding the atmosphere of particular lines. This artful and philosophical manner is the nature of my intuition in design. I am interested in designing and creating in the virtual and physical reality to understand the significance as they intersect and relate to each other.

I seek the meaning and narrative of my life during my spare time through reading classic literature, painting playing badminton, video games and participating in a variety of winter sports.

NARRATIVES OF THE LINE: ARCHIVE AND CONCEPTUAL EXPERIENCE

Although a portfolio at first glance, this collection of works is an exhibition through the narrative and conceptual development of my understanding of lines in relation to design.

WHAT IS THE POINT?

TORONTO UNION STATION-HONG KONG

GRAPHIC STUDY OF URBAN SYSTEMS

REFLECTION

a higher understanding in the the roles interiors enforce and researching new ideas about speculative representation.

CONCEPT

What is the point? is a tri-part delivery of the following concept:

Everyday we walk a path to get to our desired destinations yet never acknowledge the spaces of transition. Toronto’s, Union Station is at the epicenter of relocating people from their own realities to the context of their place of work, study, or play. In this project, the graphic culminates a study of city systems. Emphasis is put on the tension between the rationality of transportation infrastructure and our role as the human kind among humans. Nihilist and existentialist natures are revealed. What is the point? What can be revealed through further inspection? Through this project and thorough process, a question of what this project implies for the philosophical nature of what architecture’s role in creating its user’s identity within.

conceptual sketches that explore an understanding of disruption through light and circulatory movement. abstract forms helped generate ideas of graphical representation of movement and line layering.

MODULE

LIGHT OBJECT DESIGN AND FABRICATION

REFLECTION

understanding the intimacy of light through a streamlined and fabricated form.

CONCEPT

Module is an exploration of industrialization in the domestic or more intimate spaces through creating a mass producible, interlocking object. The object harnesses the tactility of its form to create intimate thresholds in the glow of its light.

Exploration in photography, fabrication and graphical representation skills in order to sell the atmosphere along with the product.

SPLIT LANEWAY

HOUSE

54 ARGYLE STREET, TRINITY BELLWOODS TORONTO

REFLECTION

creation of atmosphere through lighting and programming with light cutting through spaces.

CONCEPT

The Split house captures the ideas of light circulation, sightlines and flexibility. Through the consideration of light, how small spaces can be oriented, curating sightlines for a comfortable space to reside in, the culmination of these ideas results in a harmony the organization of space. A major feature of this space is the twostory spanning window that receives the majority of daily light, which creates one of many moments within this space to enjoy. The organization of this space takes advantage of spatial dynamics of leading into a larger space as well as dividing the private and personal areas.

RENEWAL

MULTI-USE MOTEL REDESIGN

215 GARRISON RD, FORT ERIE, ON L2A 1M6

REFLECTION

understanding the power of creating a conceptual system to generate a spatial program.

CONCEPT

The redesign focuses on the experience of renewal or rebirth. No matter the need, the space provides a safe place for opportunities, communal support and connection. Renewal in this space can include a place to rest and sleep after travels, a space to re-build one’s life and a place start fresh. the meandering circulation and wall system, using a curvature that aided in programing. the pattern considers the need for public spaces to balance privacy for daily life. Private spaces will focus more on lighting to highlight the intrigue of the wall system.

REFLECTION CONCEPT

understanding a culturally centered way of urban planning that is culturally relevant.

The two parts culminate an understanding of the space. The model is a visualization of the central aspect of the omo sebua, or chieftan’s home. As it is a main gathering place and is also connected to other villager dwellings, the acrylic layers represent the pathways while the etched wood represent the visible and major circulatory system.

The graphic culminates an structural study and rationalization of the research through a sectional perspective.
