Can a curtain wall tower be Net-Zero?
What difference can the facade make to a building’s energy consumption and energy generation?
This case study is a 30-fl office tower in Boston, MA, for Skanska.
Designs utilize the Closed-Cavity Facade (CCF) by Gartner-Permasteelisa.
To optimize the building massing and facade topography of each scheme, designs address:
- site conditions
- the quantity of Irradiation as measured using the Solemma tool DIVA
- the spatial Daylight Autonomy of office floor plates, as measured by DIVA;
- the energy produced by the Onyx Building-Integrated photovoltaic panels (BIPV) by Onyx, utilizing translucent and opaque silicone types;
- and by a measure delete the relative impact of the upgraded facade technology and form, based on ASHRAE 90.1
In addition to energy and light, students considered constructability and cost through details
