Collabism for the world
By Victoria Robinson
Collabism will create a new form of collaboration and communication amongst society and have people choose wisely when to use technology. We can begin by having an event to bring people together to have real-life interaction to create a new form of connection.
There should be more events to bring people together, which can even bring together other economic class people and different job roles.
“Discussions could be framed around cross-sector, overarching aims such as better health and well-being with an understanding that such a re-frame could benefit all” (“Designing for a Radical Transformation”).
We must evolve the definition of connection amongst our society and of designers. One way to do this is by having pop-up fairs, just like there are existing craft fairs that happen seasonally. This would help gather a society of designers and people around.
What does Collabism mean to you?
On Instagram I posted a link to a canva page. I asked my Instagram following what it meant and to add imagery to show it on that page. Then I used the imagery they put in and created a graphic implimenting their advice and my experience as a designer for a successful design.
The result of that exercise is below. The purpose of this exercise is to see what collabism meant to the world to make sure I am accurately depicting it!
Teamwork MAKES THE dream work!
What is the purpose of workforce of connection?
The world needs designers who have been mentored by people who have been in the design workforce. Not only would it be beneficial for designers’ futures, but it would be beneficial for the next generation of designers.
What is the purpose of mentorship?
The better we understand what has worked in the past for successful designers, the better we can do in the future. The type of successful designers I am referring to are those who have created campaigns that have performed positively in society. Bringing together people within the workforce will allow for this to happen. Creating annual meetings to allow for mentorship must happen to better the future of design.
What must we question moving forward?
Designers must question what forms of technology to use regularly. New designers must choose wisely when to use technology. If the opportunity to show contemporary skills is being offered, designers should use this skill instead of using technology.
Designers don’t need to run away from technology but learn to step back and analyze when it may be beneficial to use these contemporary technologies.
Designers need a platform where they can post the current designs they are working on.
What does worldwide collaboration look like?
There would be a platform would allow for the option to add notes, sketches, and conversation sections where people can text and even chat live to get feedback from anyone worldwide!
Although the designer does not need to take the advice of the people on the website, it will allow designers to have another perspective when designing.
How would designers benefit from this?
This would allow for communication to open with society and would allow for beneficial feedback that designers may not realize we need. This feedback will lead to a better understanding of what needs to be designed and the flaws that society has to deal with.
This is important because we need to be able to learn from one another and constantly adapt. We must bridge that gap between people we work with and online people to all work together in another format.
