The Greek educational system is mainly divided into threelevels

Primary education

 Kindergarten

• Ages 3 - 4

 Preschool

• Ages 4 - 6

• Compulsory

 Primary School

• Ages 6 – 12

• Compulsory

 University

• Typically 4 years, some are 5 or 6 years (like medical schools)

Free education

 None of theeducational levels costmoney, including the textbooks.

 However, there are available options for enrollment into private schools.

Schedule and Subjects

 School days begin at 8:15 and end anywhere between 13:15 and 14:10

 40-45-minute classes, with 3 breaks (20’, 15’, 10’) for primary school, and 5 breaks (10’) for secondary school

School Vacation

 The school year always starts on September 11 and ends on June 15.

 The students have summervacation (about 3 months), Christmas vacation (2 weeks) and Easter vacation (2 weeks).

Students with Special Needs

1. Integration Class, with a teacher for special needs.

2. Class assistant teacher for students with disabilities such as autism.

Extracurricular classes and activities

 For students whose parents are at work, there are extracurricular classes and activities, from 7am to 8am, and later from 1:15pm to 5:30pm.

 Students can participate in activities such as studying, doing their homework, physical education, drawing, music, and computer classes.

Vocational schools

Provide vocational training and education in 14 fields for 42 different areas of specialization

Panhellenic national examinations

 The students must take the Panhellenic national Examinations to proceed to theHigher Tertiary education. These exams are held after the students have received their certificate. The students pass into a specific Higher Educational Institutebased on the Orientation and Group chosen.
