hris Neff is helping his community notice and protect the wildlife living all around them. Through his striking photography and educational social media posts, Neff, a Mendham resident, shares local sightings and teaches residents how to safely appreciate the animals in their midst without disturbing them.

By blending photography, conservation, and community education, Neff has turned everyday wildlife sightings into opportunities for environmental awareness and local stewardship.

Her book The Little Red Barn earned two Italian awards in 2025 and has been translated into multiple languages, with an English edition set for release this September. She also created Hello, Turtle, and a third book is scheduled for next year through Italian publisher Minibombo.

Known for unexpected twists and cute, expressive artwork, Crumrine both writes and illustrates her books. As she continues developing new manuscripts, her growing success reflects the power of creativity, curiosity, and persistence.

arren resident Margareta Warlick has shaped a life defined by creativity, curiosity, and connection to people and the natural world.

aissnavi Gautam of Watchung is using dance to build meaningful connections between students and seniors. With strong support from the Pingry School, Vaissnavi, a sophomore, founded Rhythm Revolution, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that performs at senior centers and youth centers, combining dance, conversation, crafts, and shared treats to create joyful intergenerational experiences.

A lifelong dancer trained in styles including ballet, hip hop, contemporary, and jazz, the Watchung resident started

the initiative after seeing how much her own performances delighted her grandparents. Today, she leads student dancers while also creating leadership opportunities for them.

As Rhythm Revolution grows, Vaissnavi hopes to expand chapters to other schools and secure funding to support broader outreach.

Through dance, creativity, and compassion, she is making a lasting impact one performance at a time.

Stitching Confidence Into a New Generation

When Roxana Nasrin and Sarah Levine entered Watchung Hills Regional High School as freshmen, they noticed something subtle but powerful: many students were afraid to stand out.

Trends ruled the hallways. Individuality felt muted. So the best friends decided to change that. They founded À La Mode, the school’s first fashion club and magazine, to create a space where students could express themselves freely and confidently.

What began as an idea between two friends has grown into a full-scale student-run entity with more than 120 students connected to the club and 80 actively producing the magazine. À La Mode is more than style inspiration. It is a platform for writers, photographers, designers, models, publicists, and more.

The group publishes professionally printed magazines, complete with styled shoots, creative direction and detailed look books.

They also host a highly anticipated annual runway show each April that rallies the school community. They sold the 2nd issue of À La Mode at the last show.

Without school funding, Nasrin and Levine built the organization from the ground up. To finance printing and events, they launched a thrift-based fundraiser, collecting donated clothing from students and teachers. By reselling and bidding select pieces, they not only fund their publication but promote sustainability, encouraging peers to rethink fast fashion and embrace creative reuse.

Sustainability is woven into the magazine itself. Many featured looks are thrifted or upcycled, with student designers transforming base garments into original pieces. The message is clear: fashion can be expressive without being disposable.

Now seniors, Nasrin and Levine are preparing to pass the torch. They have selected and mentored underclassmen leaders and created a detailed month-by-month guide to ensure À La Mode continues long after they graduate.

What started as a response to conformity has become a movement celebrating creativity, confidence and conscious fashion. In building À La Mode, Nasrin and Levine have stitched together more than a magazine. They have built a legacy.

Marketing with a Mission in Peapack

For Harriet Donnelly, success has never been measured solely by clients or campaigns, but by impact. The Peapack resident and longtime marketing professional has spent more than three decades building a career rooted in charitable marketing, blending her expertise with a deep commitment to giving back.

A former Marketing Executive at AT&T, Donnelly launched her own company 31 years ago with a clear philosophy: every project should serve a greater purpose. Since then, she has used her background in marketing and communications to support causes, strengthen communities, and create meaningful change.

That commitment is evident in the wide range of nonprofit work and volunteer efforts she leads. From bold brushstrokes to innovative digital design, Fresh Perspectives 2026 returns to the Morris Museum this spring with a powerful showcase of emerging artistic talent from across New Jersey. Now in its 37th year, this annual juried high school exhibition continues a long-standing tradition of giving student artists the rare opportunity to experience a professionally curated museum show.

First launched in 1989, Fresh Perspectives was created not only to celebrate student achievement, but also to recognize the art educators who help cultivate and inspire the next generation of creatives. That mission remains at the heart of the exhibition today. This year’s show features 50 exceptional works selected by a panel of three jurors— James Yarosh, Founder, James Yarosh Associates Fine Art Gallery and Interior Design Services for the Art Collector; Cyndall Brice, Program Manager of Arts in Community & Education, Morris Arts; and Leandro Comrie, Artist.

Visitors can expect a dynamic and thought-provoking experience, as these student-created works challenge viewers to see familiar subjects in new ways. Whether deeply personal or socially reflective, the pieces on display highlight both technical skill and creative vision.

WHAT BEGAN AS A SMALL, FAMILY-RUN LANDSCAPING OPERATION HAS GROWN INTO A DYNAMIC, MULTI-DIVISION COMPANY THAT NOW TOUCHES NEARLY EVERY ASPECT OF OUTDOOR LIVING, PROPERTY MAINTENANCE, AND EVEN LIFE’S MOST MEANINGFUL MOMENTS.

A significant trend in family law that Fava is watching closely is the potential impact of the recent (January 2026) change in New Jersey’s custody statute (N.J.S.A. 9:2-4) that shifts away from a default focus on contact with both parents post-separation when a child repeatedly refuses contact. The new language focuses on the child’s protection and welfare–physically and emotionally being paramount. Safety concerns are now the first priority and children’s preferences have been given greater clarity. In cases where the court orders therapy, including reunification therapy, there are clearer limits and parameters.

Fava’s journey into law was not straightforward.

Despite always wanting to be an attorney, she initially avoided family law due to her sister’s difficult divorce. However, during law school, a pro bono domestic violence case changed her perspective. “Working on that case was a turning point,” she recalls. “I realized how fulfilling it was to help people through some of the most challenging moments of their lives.”

That passion for advocacy led her to build a firm where she could prioritize both legal excellence and compassionate client service. “Leaving a 20-year career in big law allowed me to create a practice that focuses on personal attention without the constraints of a corporate structure,” she explains. A diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AFib) may be scary, but it doesn’t have to hold you back from enjoying life. Learning more about the condition and treatment options can significantly affect your prognosis and quality of living. AFib is the most common type of cardiac arrhythmia or abnormal heart rhythm. It occurs when the upper chambers of the heart, called the atria, beat rapidly or in an uncontrolled manner. AFib can cause a wide variety of symptoms, including heart palpitations, fatigue, shortness of breath, difficulty exercising, anxiety, chest pain and dizziness.

AFib impacts nearly 40 million people worldwide, according to research published in the “International Journal of Stroke,” including 6 million people in the United States alone. Despite its prevalence, many people are unfamiliar with the symptoms, available treatment options and importance of early treatment to avoid disease progression or other lifethreatening complications such as a stroke. More than a quarter of adults living with AFib have fears and anxiety about the progressive nature of the disease, according to a survey conducted by Biosense Webster, Inc., part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech. However, a quarter of patients did not get treatment immediately after diagnosis and 44% of patients have ended up in the emergency room due to their condition.

Aging and common health conditions increase the risk of falling, and the consequences— such as fractures, concussions, or loss of independence—can be serious. That’s why balance and fall prevention are essential for senior well-being.

As we age, three systems that help control balance may weaken:

When hosting a mid-day get-together, a little thoughtful planning can go a long way toward creating a brunch that feels effortless yet memorable.

Spanish omelet made with potatoes, red onions, and spring herbs. This satisfying dish delivers protein, B vitamins, and antioxidant-rich plant compounds.

Keep it casual with a buffet. A selfserve setup encourages mingling and lets guests customize their plates. For a modern twist, add themed stations such as a coffee or tea bar, mimosa mocktail station, yogurt parfait bar, or artisanal bread and spread display.

Place potatoes in large pan. Cover with water. Bring to boil and cook, uncovered, 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Cover and let stand about 10 minutes, or until potatoes are tender. Drain well.

In deep, 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat, heat oil. Add onion and garlic. Cook about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add potatoes and cook 5 minutes.

Combine whole eggs and egg whites. Stir in parsley, basil and chives. Season with salt, to taste, if desired. Pour mixture over potatoes in hot skillet. Reduce heat and cook, uncovered, about 10 minutes, or until bottom of omelet is golden.

If desired, brown top under toaster oven.

Garnish with fresh herb sprigs, if desired.

In last month’s column, I shared the five secrets from The Adventures of Little Billy… IN SEARCH OF THE MAGIC TREE. This month, I want to go deeper—breaking each secret into its own column, because the lessons are just as meaningful for adults as they are for children.

When Lawrence T. Owl tells Little Billy, “Help all the animals that you see and you will find the magic tree,” he’s really teaching us about the power of service. Whether in business or in life, when we put others first—when we make it our mission to help—good things have a way of coming back. Our rewards in life are always in direct proportion to the service we give.

What Is Service?

At its core, service is simple: an act of helpful activity.

But true service goes beyond just giving time or money.

It’s about bringing your energy, talents, knowledge, and experience to make the lives of others better.

Service means showing up fully—wherever you are. If you’re a gas station attendant, it’s greeting customers with warmth and giving 110 percent. If you’re the CEO of a corporation, it’s leading with integrity and caring about the people you serve. The position doesn’t matter—the principle does.

Life isn’t meant to be lived selfishly. A Legend About the Spirit of Giving There’s an old story about a wanderer in the desert who discovered a spring of clear, cool water. He filled a jug and set out on a long journey to bring this gift to his king. By the time he arrived days later, the water had grown hot and stale.

The king tasted it, smiled, and offered the wanderer heartfelt thanks. Those in the court rushed to sample it too—but when they did, they spat it out in disgust. “How could you smile and give thanks,” they asked the king, “when the water was spoiled?”

The king replied, “It was not the water I tasted, but the spirit in which it was given.”

As President Calvin Coolidge once said: “No person was ever honored for what he received; honor has been the reward for what he gave.”
