ISSUE 02 JANUARY 2014
ACCOMPLISH YOUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS..! Like most people, you’ve probably made resolutions in the past that went unfulfilled. It’s easy to give up on making resolutions because you’ve convinced yourself you just can’t change. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
01. Find a place where you can sit and reflect. Have a pen and paper available, or a tablet device if preferred.
02. Think about changes and improvements you’d like to make. These can be about anything, not just the usual “quit smoking and lose weight” big guns everyone associates with New Year’s resolutions. Start a list to jot down some notes. Ask yourself the following questions to get you started and then add questions of your own: What can I do to improve my health? Drink more water? Quit smoking? Avoid unhealthy food? Avoid all fast food? Fried foods? Red meat? Eat fish twice a week? How about more fiber, beans, whole grains? Take vitamins each day? Go to the gym? How often? Maybe start off going once a week but increase by one day each month for the next few months. What can I do to be a better parent? Can you attend a sporting event or other activity each week? Can you proofread papers or help with homework?
14 VIBE | JAN 2014 www.vibetrends.com
Can you take your kids on an educational trip over the weekends? Can you take a trip and see a historical location or cultur? You don’t have to travel far; it could just be a day trip. What can I do to be a better friend? Make a list of everyone’s birthday and address to send cards. Contact or visit a friend you haven’t seen in years. Are there “friends” you need to get rid of? Are they unhealthy or negative? What can I do to be more successful at work? Can you keep your files and desk more organized? Get up 30 minutes earlier to get to work on time? What can I do to be happier at work? Learn to say no to the procrastinators. Don’t skip lunch no matter how busy you are. Take your vacation days instead of putting the company first. Get some exercise or be involved in networking during lunchtime. Consider more external changes in your life, the ways that you can make a difference through activism, awareness raising or promoting a cause. Ask yourself questions such as: What can I do to improve the world? Change the light bulbs in the house to the energy efficient bulbs. How can I reduce waste? Are you recycling as much as you can? How can I become an activist? , volunteer or just recycle a little more.

03. Look over your list and see what items on it are most important to you. Don’t take too long choosing; often it’s the things that leap out at you straight away that have the most meaning for you personally.
04. Don’t just address the big battles. Think of the smaller habits that turn into big problems when not addressed. Indeed, it is often smaller, more discreet resolutions that are most effective and that can be built upon to reach bigger overall goals. Try to be realistic and adjust any goals that may be too hard to tackle. Break down larger goals into smaller actions. For example: Instead of resolving to lose 30 pounds in the following year, you can resolve to cut out fast food, soft drinks, sugary snacks and fizzy drinks, drink more water, and walk three days a week until March, and then gradually add in two days at the gym. Before you know it, your 30 pounds will be gone, almost as if by stealth. Instead of having the 30 pounds goal looming over your head, you can chip away at it by achieving your smaller resolutions. In the long run you’ll be much healthier and much more likely to maintain the weight loss as you’ve formed a new lifestyle pattern instead of a deprivation regime.
05. Make your list of resolutions. Don’t make a short list of huge goals. Make a list with many smaller goals. If you need to put down 20 resolutions, go for it!
06. Sit down with your family and friends and discuss your goals and why you made them. Ask for their support on these goals throughout the year. If possible, team up and visit the gym or shop at the health food store together. Ask them to speak up if you slip and order a Diet Coke instead of a water bottle, or forget another goal on your list.
16 VIBE | JAN 2014 www.vibetrends.com
Print or write out copies of your resolutions. Save a copy on each computer or electronic device you own, such as your cell phone, tablet, ipad or MP3 player (if it accepts notes).
Congratulations! Your resolutions have been made. Keep checking back to your list daily to keep your eye on the ball. Don’t be afraid to add new goals throughout the year.
Email a copy to your work address. Make a smaller copy and keep it in your wallet. Post a copy on the outside of your refrigerator! Use bright paper so it catches your eye and don’t let it get hidden behind coupons and artwork.
09. Keep at it. The best goals in the world will do no good if you don’t follow through with consistent actions.
Don’t just address the big battles. Think of the smaller habits that turn into big problems when not addressed.
If possible, post a copy up at the office or your place of business. Consider sharing your list with an office friend. You’ll have that support system everywhere you go.

20 VIBE | JAN 2014 www.vibetrends.com
Who says that this day should be restricted only to romantic love? No other day can conjure such powerful imagery of chocolate, flowers, romance and love. It is a commercially driven day that provokes strongly divided reactions to the bewildering display of hearts, and starry-eyed romance. For those in stable, loving relationships, the day offers a wonderful opportunity to express or reaffirm their love. For those who are recently bereaved, divorced, or single, this is a day that can trigger feelings of overwhelming loneliness and grief. Many people who find themselves alone on this day, struggle with past hurts, grief, and feelings of inadequacy. While they are bombarded with images of happy couples, it is important that they remember that their identity is not defined by their relationship status. A person’s worth comes from who they are, not who they are with. While most would agree that this is true, it doesn’t dull the inevitable feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy that arise when besieged by the ubiquitous love heart at every turn.
but for everybody? While your friends might be buying flowers for their partners, consider the people in your world that you love, and that love you back. Something special for your Mom, a telephone call to your Dad. Perhaps your daughter would appreciate flowers as much as any lover would. Maybe spending the evening with your son watching a movie would be one way to express your particular brand of love. Random acts of kindness can bring a surprisingly wonderful sense of well-being. Valentine’s Day offers us a unique opportunity to undertake a new perspective on how we choose to celebrate love. The traditional approach with flowers, cards, and romance works beautifully for some. For others, a display of love towards children, parents, or friends can be equally rewarding. But in the midst of all the various means of displaying love to others, let us not forget the benefits of looking after our own needs. This Valentine’s Day, offer yourself the same thing you give to all of the loved ones in your life, and make the effort to show yourself a little love!
So how to deal with these feelings when colleagues receive flowers, lovers seem to be everywhere and romantic cards take over every store front? While some may choose to avoid the day by staying at home, or just take steps to avoid “happy couples”, it seems that a different approach might offer a more gratifying result. What about a perspective change? What if we were to adopt the idea that Valentine’s Day is not just for couples,

THE FOUR FABULOUS TRENDS
OF 2014! 3 . It’s a fresh new year and while we are relieved to know that the world did not end, our wardrobe should not look like it did. Give your ensembles a chic new twist with these four hottest trends.
Skinny is Out. Wide is In! Let’s face it, not all of us have perfect pins like Gisele to sport a pair of slim fit pants. Not only do we have to jump around to get one of those beyond our thighs, they are equally unflattering on most women, too. The latest wide legged pants trend is a more
forgiving choice that complements most shapes and sizes.Go for a pair that is leaner on the flare and high waisted to elongate your frame.
Oh Sugar Sugar! Fashion is embracing its sweet tooth for sugary pastels like pink, baby blue, mint green and lilac as this year’s new fave.Try a pink pastel dress to work or to any office function for an ultra feminine look. There is a rainbow of pastels to choose from. Pick a color that flatters and makes you happy the most.
Holidays are over and it’s time to go back to work; let us assuage your Sunday blues; wear a regular button-down shirt with collar and cuffs in contrasting color. Try different textures and patterns to keep it exciting.

FITNESS & HEALTH
FITNESS AND WEIGHT LOSS FOR New MOMS Reaching our prepregnancy weight is not simple, YET achievable!
Pregnancy is such a beautiful thing which changes our lives forever. Staying fit during and after pregnancy is essential for our health, nevertheless after giving birth often times we get too occupied with our ‘bundles of joy’, we set aside our own priorities. Bouncing back after the baby can be hard work for new moms, even for celebrities who often amaze us with their speedy return to their prepregnancy bodies. Our bodies need time to recover from having to go through the tremendous yet wonderful transformation after giving birth especially if we have had a C-Section. Every so often with a new baby in the house and being undoubtedly fatigued, we end up eating junk foods such as burgers, fries, submarines and foods containing a lot of

carbohydrates. However, during this time it is very important to rest well and eat healthily with a colourful mixture of all the fruits and vegies and a steady supply of vitamins to speed up the recovery. We can prepare easy-to-grab snacks like homemade protein bars and pre-packed sliced veggies and keep them refrigerated. Even with all the new excitement in our lives, it is important to find time just to pamper ourselves. This can be in the form of a good workout or a visit to the nearest salon. Making fitness a priority helps us to shed the ‘baby fat’ and get back in to shape promptly. For those moms who find it impossible to leave the little one even for a while, can either grab a yoga mat or exercise shoes and workout with the help of a good exercise home video or design their own workouts, in the comfort of their home. It is even simple as skipping a rope or a few minutes everyday. Like they say ‘if there’s a will, there’s a way’! Getting our old body back is hard work,
especially for the moms who had gained a lot of weight during pregnancy, yet it is not impossible. Being fit makes us more confident with ourselves. A fitness instructor once told me that after childbirth the body goes back to being tender and vulnerable, like that of the baby we have just had, which makes it the perfect ground to shape it up in any way we like. She also added that we should love our bodies and not starve ourselves. The formulation of a perfect diet (a bit of a small portion of cheat-treat every now and then is forgivable) and a strict scheduled exercise plan at least 3 times a week, to burn the excess calories can be exciting. It is also important for our self esteem to celebrate our victories, no matter how small it is. It makes us feel more positive and happy after a workout and usually reminds

us to make smarter nutritional choices. Though the workouts might not start out as powerful as they were pre-pregnancy, it will gradually get back to that point. Above all, what we should remember is before starting any form of exercise after childbirth, it is important to consult our gynecologist and get a good to go confirmation. After all, it is always better being safe than sorry. It is also a fact that we can only start exercising once we are physically and mentally ready. So Ladies! Eman Thawfeeq The Knight is Standing Solo as “Eman’s Conspiracy” Interviewed by Angel Shujau
One of the youngest, charismatic and talented singer songwriters in Maldives, Eman from One Knight Stand is set to launch his self titled album “Eman’s Conspiracy”. We sat down with him to talk about his new band, his latest works and dream collaborations. You have a new band titled under your name “Eman’s Conspiracy”. How did you come about starting a new band? And why is it called “Eman’s Conspiracy”? I have always wanted to start my own self titled band and it all came together at the 2013 Dhiraagu Eid Show with a lineup that I had always wanted to work with. I had new songs written too. We all connected so well that it was perfect to start a new band again. As for the title, I just wanted to go wicked with it.
34 VIBE | JAN 2014 www.vibetrends.com
Was it that you had any differences among your band members of One Knight Stand that made you come up with a new one? Would we still see you perform with them? No, not at all. We have not disbanded either. I will still perform with One Knight Stand if the opportunity arises but at the moment I am focusing on my new album and I will be mostly seen there. What should we expect from Eman’s Conspiracy is it going to be a departure from One Knight Stand’s style? Would it show a different side of Eman? Emans Conspiracy will be focused on rock genre. The songs are very different and the lyrics will be in the comical style and hopefully everyone will enjoy it. One Knight Stand’s songs especially the lyrics are very popular in Maldives. Every Maldivian youth was singing songs like “Dhethiki p”. Did you write the lyrics yourself or did you work on them with your band members?
I wrote the lyrics for One Knight Stand and Eman’s Conspiracy as well. I enjoy writing lyrics and I always try to keep them simple and easy for people to relate to. “Dhethiki p”, “Dhefarubadha” ,“Varubalivanee” ,“Rizna” and your latest song “Vagu” Your songs are contemporary, comical and connects with the youth but they are also suggestive, bold and controversial. Do you ever have to come across criticism and disapproval from people especially elderly people? Or from your family? Do they say that it promotes what is socially unacceptable? A few times I have come across people who comment with disapproval. But it’s really

upto the individual to take it in any way they want. My family is very supportive and they enjoy my songs, my mother comes to almost all of my shows. Has the album launched already? And how many songs would it have? It will be launched earlier this year with seven songs. All of them will be in Dhivehi. From the days when you performed with Dittore Head and Customs, how do you think you have grown as a singer and musician?
I do believe I am growing every day. As every day I am learning something new.
then you must take an international platform.
Do you think you have reached your career goal? Do you still aspire to achieve more?
Any band or singer that you dream of collaborating, international or national?
“Kuriah othee adhi”, I have a long way to go and this is only the beginning I believe. I want to reach the peak of my career and to be internationally recognized hopefully. 9- Are you a full time musician and singer? Yes, I am. To all those aspiring young singers and musicians, would you recommend this as a career in Maldives? Yes, I would. If you are willing to work hard for it. But you must maintain quality. How you behave in resorts can either get you more gigs or not. Though, there’s a limit for expansion as a musician or singer in Maldives, like we cannot make sufficient record sales. So if you want more exposure
There are so many, but I would love to meet and perform with Iron Maiden and Aerosmith, especially Steven Tyler. What is your best and most memorable stage performance uptill now? The South Asian Bands Festival 2013 held in New Delhi, India. The crowd was great and they were even singing to our songs, which were in Dhivehi! facebook.com/emansconspiracy
Break up or Wake up?!! Written by Riala
In a society where divorce is becoming a norm it is no longer a concern to save a marriage or try to walk back and find the real problem so you can resolve it. It is cool to be ‘independent’ and brave to have gone through a separation or a divorce and be ‘over’ the person who you used to think you cannot be apart with for a second. Friends would give a pat on the back and say your ex-spouse was not worthy of you and he/ she didn’t deserve you anyway, and you would believe it. But really, are any of the relationships not worth fighting for? Was it just another chapter in your life? Do we have that many years and resources to start over a new life with a new partner? Is it the same as starting to write on a new page from a book on a blank white page? In such a society, both men and women get a lot of chances to defend on their arguments to support their case. If we want to list the reasons of divorce in Maldives, the list will go on and on, varying from “she ate from my mother’s thelli ala jar” (believe or not, but a real case) from “he cheated on me with my sister”. So in this column we will try to look into reasons and see what really happens along the relationship that ultimately results in a divorce or breakup? And is it worth all the emotional hassle as sometimes it can only be an alarm to wake up in a relationship. For this article, let’s just focus on the more common reasons. According to a professional working in the family court, the cases of men appealing to divorce
38 VIBE | JAN 2014 www.vibetrends.com
their wives are more in number than women appealing to be divorced from their husbands. So, ladies, in this month’s issue, let’s see why they just give up on the marriage. “I donno what happened, but I don’t feel like we love each other anymore. She is always busy with the kids and home chores.” “She changed. It’s like I bought an Iphone but it functions as a baththi phone.” “My friends used to tell me how lucky I am and now look at her! She doesn’t even make an attempt to look nice!” “She knows I always prefer her hair down with dangling earrings and to wear skirts. She used to go out with me looking lovely, but after marrying she just don’t care what I want or prefers. I can’t keep reminding her every time!” These are some of the things men say when asked why their marriages ended. But of course only after much probing do they reveal these. Most don’t know what exactly cause a relationship to breakdown. Most probably because so many snags happen with nothing to resolve and it keeps piling up higher and higher and when it can no longer hold, it tumbles down scattering all into different directions. And when all problems are scattered, we only see the ones that have fallen near to us and not all. Meaning the ones that are easiest to remember. Going back in a marriage let’s see how it all starts.
Boy meets Girl In such a small society where everyone knows each other, if we try to ‘experiment’, we get labeled and ultimately a reputation is created. Some of us take the risk and explore the possibilities and jump from one relationship to another, while the more cautious kind tries to avoid the hopping. But ultimately it all begins with the attraction that is the glue which keeps them together in the long run. “I still remember the day I saw her. It was in my cousin’s fifteenth birthday party. She was the most beautiful girl there. She stands out from the rest of the crowd with a red dress hugging her figure. I tried to catch her eyes and then she looked at me and smiled. Her smile melted my heart.” Said one of my friends. He started dating her then. The boy will tell her how he felt when he saw her at that party wearing the red dress. She will try to wear something similar for him every time they go out, to please him. He will say how lovely she looks when she smiles and she would always smile and laugh at every little thing that she sees or that happens when with him. … and then they got marr i ed and li ved ha ppil y ever after! When we were young the fairytales tells us how soulmates are met and the journey to ‘win’ the love of their lives and in the end it all ends with them getting married to lead a smooth happy life for the rest of their lives. We are falsely promised that a marriage is an end to all our life’s drama. So we marry only to find out that life only begins from there! Snow-white sings and bakes pies and it is
expected she still does that even after her marriage. She still wears long skirts and has her short hair tied with a ribbon, like a hairband. So for Prince Charming, she is still the one he saved with true love’s kiss from a sleeping state in a glass coffin. Nothing changes.
“It is cool to be ‘independent’ and brave to have gone through a separation or a divorce and be ‘over’ the person who you used to think you cannot be apart with for a second.
But in our marriages so much change and we forget to make attempts to try and remember where it all started and take life for granted. Taking everything in it for granted as well. For instance, let’s take the case of the girl who managed to capture a boy’s heart with a smile. Suppose she gets a baby and with that there will be so many responsibilities and life changes and adjusts to a routine. Home chores, bills and work responsibilities, weekly visits to the relatives and she has no time to go to gym or parties anymore. Suddenly fancy dresses and make up kits seems to cost too much and takes up a lot of time. Clothes that used to fit well no longer do. So a jeans and a shirt becomes all too convenient after work when rushing to and from home to school, and in all the hassle smiling is just not natural to her anymore. For her husband, she is totally a different person. She no longer is the woman he married. If he can’t see the woman he married in his wife, would he then walk away?
WAKE UP! Ladies, it’s not in their nature to always point out things and communicate every time something goes wrong. Normally the eating of thelli ala being the reason for divorce is not the real problem, but probably an excuse as he is not interested in you anymore. If there are small things that irritate him, which has not happened before, it’s the alarm. Don’t ignore it. It’s the wakeup call. Be proactive. Remember what started the whole thing. What attracted him to you. If you must, write it down so you will not forget. Trust me, every relationship is worth giving a fight before you call it quits.

MUST WATCH SERIES MASTERS OF SEX Summary: This drama follows the true story of William Masters (Michael Sheen), a brilliant scientist who is disconnected from his emotions and who embarks upon a professional relationship with Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), a forward-thinking single working mother. Together they embark upon pioneering scientific research in the field of human sexuality, and eventually take their work out of the office and into the bedroom.
THE ORIGINALS Summary:
ALMOST HUMAN Summary:
In the year 2048, John Kennex (Karl Urban), a cop who survived a catastrophic attack made against the police department, awakens from a 17-month coma with his life in tatters and a synthetic leg replacing the one he lost in the attack. But when John returns to work, he is partnered with a synthetic named Dorian (Michael Ealy), an android whose line was discontinued due to unexpected emotional responses that were deemed flaws. And it is these flaws in Dorian, and John, that ostensibly make them perfect partners in the field.
Washington Irving’s classic hero Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) is resurrected 250 years after his time, along with his nemesis the Headless Horseman -- who Crane discovers is continuing his murderous rampage in present-day Sleepy Hollow. But stopping Headless is just part of the challenge, which Ichabod and his modernday partner, a cop named Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) realize when they figure out the supernatural menace is actually one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Indeed, the fact that “Fringe’s” producers are also running this show should be seen as a good thing -- they know how to paint this world, and they have bright, shiny new colors to play with in the appealing onscreen partnership of Ealy and Urban. We also really like the new dramatic shades Lili Taylor brings to her role as Kennex’s boss, and we’re delighted to see Mackenzie Crook turn up on our TVs on a weekly basis again. It’ll be interesting to watch these broken souls, real and synthetic, evolve.
Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) returns to New Orleans, the city his family helped build, to find his former protégé, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) has taken control and rules over all supernatural factions with ruthlessness. Joined by his brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies), the werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and a powerful witch, Sophie, (Daniella Pineda), the Mikaelson clan and their allies must come together to restore balance as Klaus makes moves to reclaim his city.
THE BLACKLIST Summary: Former government agent Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) has eluded capture for decades. But he suddenly surrenders to the FBI with an offer to help catch a terrorist under the condition that he speaks only to Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone), a young FBI profiler who’s just barely out of Quantico.

Losing your stuff is no longer a thing
If you have an annoying habit of losing things, “Tile app” may be the solution to your problems. Tile app is a new tracking device, simply attach it to any object and find it from afar with a smartphone. Locate anything with Tile just attach the Tile on to an object and locate it with the included app, it allows you to check how close you are to the missing item, within a 50 to 150-foot range. You can monitor up to ten Tiles on your smartphone
It doesn’t mean users need to give up their privacy, though. The communication between apps happens in the background, meaning that other users don’t see it. However, users do have the option to share their Tiles with people they trust. In those
48 VIBE | JAN 2014 www.vibetrends.com
cases, each user can watch their own Tiles move on a Tile app map. To make finding misplaced items easier, users can activate a ringtone. Where a user doesn’t have an iPhone or iPad to hand, they can log in using a friend’s Tile app. “Where you lose your items is frequently where your friends and your family also go — so in the house, in the office, at restaurants where you typically go to and what not — so as those people around you join the Tile network your little world is going to get populated, so the most important people that join the network are your friends and family. And that is going to be so beneficial that we see it spreading through word of mouth,” adds Farley.
Small and sleek, Tiles go everywhere you do.
According to Mike Farley and Nick Evans, the hardware and software engineers behind Tile, in order to go beyond a typical Bluetooth range of 100 ft (30 m), Tile recruits other Tile apps by sending them signals so they start searching for the lost item. To do this, it’s necessary to be relatively close to other Tile users, but at the same time, it provides an incentive to create Tile hubs with family, friends or work colleagues.
Just attach, stick or drop your Tile into any item you might lose: laptops, wallets, keys, guitars, bikes—you name it.
For the moment, Tile works with several iOS devices, including iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad Mini, iPad (third and fourth generation) and iPod touch (fifth generation). New iOS devices will be supported as they become available and are enabled with Bluetooth 4.0. According to the company’s website, support for Android will depend on demand. The Tile uses a Bluetooth Low Energy connection and works completely wirelessly. A month before the one-year deadline, users will be reminded to recycle their old Tiles and of the need to purchase a new one (for the same price). In order to make this process easy, the warning includes a pre-addressed package for free shipping. This ongoing cost is where Tile sees its initial business model — making a small margin on each Tile — but the co-founders have other ideas in the pot, including the possibility of licensing their technology to other companies. For instance, high end suitcase makers could incorporate their tag tech directly into bags, so suitcase buyers also get the tracking system as part of the whole package.
Keeping track of stuff on the go The Tile App on your phone makes it easy to find your Tile(s) anywhere, anytime.
More is better Use Tile on as many things as you want. Add up to 10 Tiles on an account.
Share with people you trust
Take that, couch cushions Tiles will sound an alert if triggered. If you can hear it, you can find it.
The last place seen The Tile app remembers where it last saw your Tile, so you can easily find it right where you left it. Source: tileapp.com
You can share access to Tiles with friends, family, and trusted coworkers.
FOOD AND NUTRITION
FOODS THAT LOOK LIKE BODY PARTS THEY’RE GOOD FOR; Every child has heard the healthy-eating mantra “You are what you eat.” But there may be a closer resemblance between good-for-you grub and your body than you thought. We found 10 foods that mirror the body parts they provide nutrients for— for example, brain-boosting walnuts actually look like a brain. Coincidence? Maybe. Though these healthy foods are beneficial to the whole body, the list below is a fun reminder of what to eat to target specific areas.
2. Walnut: Brain The folds and wrinkles of a walnut bring to mind another human organ: the brain. The shape of the nut even approximates the body part, looking like it has left and right hemispheres. And it’s no surprise walnuts are nicknamed “brain food”—according to Lisa Avellino, dietitian for Focus28 Diet, “they have a very high content of omega-3 fatty acids, which help support brain function.
3. Celery: Bone Long, lean stalks of celery look just like bones—and they’re good for them, too. “Celery is a great source of silicon, which is part of the molecular structure that gives bones their strength,” says Dr. Moulavi. Another funny bone coincidence: “Bones are 23 percent sodium, and so is celery,” reports Avellino.
1. Carrot: Eye Slice a carrot in half crosswise and it’s easy to see that the veggie resembles an eye—look closely and you’ll even notice a pattern of radiating lines that mimic the pupil and iris. And the old wives’ tale is true: Munching on carrots will actually promote healthy eyes. “Carrots are filled with vitamins and antioxidants, like betacarotene, that decrease the chance of macular degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss in older people.
4. Tomato: Heart Slice open a tomato and you’ll notice the red veggie has multiple chambers that resemble the structure of a heart. “Studies have found that because of the lycopene in tomatoes, there is a reduced risk for heart disease in men and women who eat them. If you mix them with a little fat, like olive oil or avocado, it will boost your body’s lycopene absorption nearly tenfold.

5. Ginger: Stomach Anyone who’s ever reached for a glass of ginger ale when they’ve had a stomachache knows about the antinausea effects of ginger. So it’s fitting that the herb somewhat resembles the digestive organ. According to Dr. Moulavi, “gingerol, which is the ingredient responsible for ginger’s pungent scent and taste, is listed in the USDA database of phytochemicals as having the ability to prevent nausea and vomiting Source: womansday.com
QUICK BEAUTY HOME REMEDIES Being a mom is probably one of the busiest jobs in the world. Not only does it entail giving undivided attention to your family it is also one that leaves you with no ‘me time’. Most moms don’t have the time to groom themselves and soon your once regular beauty regime becomes a distant memory. But don’t fret; here is a quick beauty guide that will help you look and feel better in a jiffy.
for busy moms
bleach and can lighten your skin over time. Precaution: The mixture can be a bit sticky and a little uncomfortable in the beginning, keep applying it and you will see the difference.
Your hair is the weakest and most elastic when it is wet, combing them will cause your hair to stretch and break leading to split ends. •
Do not rub your hair to dry it. This will cause tangles and lead to breakage when you try to remove the knots.
Do not strike your hair with a towel to dry it. This practice, commonly seen in Indian households, and is very bad for your hair. This vigorous striking motion may get rid of water but it causes your hair to become damaged and brittle.
For your hair:
For your skin Being busy and often stressed takes a toll on your skin. Here are some simple, effective yet quick things you can do to help get back that natural glow, beat fine lines due to ageing and look radiant like you just had a facial at the parlor. Tip #1: Anti blemish facial Take four to five table spoons of glycerin and add the juice of one lemon to it. The secret here is that the mixture should be in the proportion of 1:1, i.e.; there should be equal parts of both ingredients. Every night, take a small amount of this mixture and gently massage into your face and neck. Make sure you wash your face, and pat dry before you apply the mixture. Allow this mixture to stay on your face as long as possible. You can even sleep with it on. The best part about this pack is that it can be stored in a glass bottle for six to eight months. This pack gives your skin a beautiful glow and prevents wrinkles and acne formation. The lemon content in it also acts as natural

Just tying your hair in a bun or a tight pony tail is one of the most common things busy moms do, but neglecting your hair is a recipe for disaster. Unkempt hair can lead to brittle, dull and damaged hair that is prone to breakage and falling. Here are some quick remedies you can try. Tip #1: Conditioned hair sans the conditioner The best way to skip those 10 minutes in the shower with conditioner on is to oil your hair well the night before. Oil your hair with your regular hair oil (the best for deep conditioning is coconut oil, sesame oil and olive oil). Apply it thoroughly on your scalp and then on the hair shaft. To add to the moisturizing effect of the oil, you could wrap up your hair in a hot towel for a few minutes. If you don’t have the time for that, cover your hair with a shower cap. Wash your hair the next morning with your regular shampoo. Remember not to over shampoo your hair and pat dry your hair.
For your feet As a mom, your feet and back usually bear the brunt of all the running around you do, and going to the parlor for that manicure -pedicure takes too much time. So here are some quick fixes for your hands and feet.
Avoid making common hair drying mistakes. Here are some things you simply should not do:
Tip #1: Relaxing soak If your feet hurt and you need a massage but don’t have anyone who can give you a foot rub try, this soak. Take a small tub of warm water (make it as hot as you can handle) and add one or two table spoons of rock salt (also known as unrefined salt) to the water. Now, add a few drops of tea tree oil to the mix. You can even try adding some aromatic oils like jasmine and lavender that have a very calming effect on your mind and body. Soak your feet for about half an hour to feel absolutely relaxed.
Do not comb your hair when it is wet.

We do it from the mundane comfort of our bedrooms and offices and to commemorate special occasions, like a vacation or out of country trips. It has its own spot in the dictionary, right next to “selfhood” and “selfish.” And this year it earned its place as the Oxford English Dictionary’s 2013 Word Of The Year. The selfie has taken over our culture -- and our smartphones. The rise of the selfie has become universal -- between presidents, idols, celebrities and citizens alike -- and the trend is only continuing to grow. Currently there are nearly 62 million tagged selfie photos on Instagram, the social media tool that has significantly contributed to the personal portrait’s popularity. That figure, which continues to rise every day, doesn’t even begin to include the selfies shared on Facebook and Twitter. Despite its dictionary definition, which describes the selfie as “a photograph taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website,” the first mention of the word can be traced back to an Australian online forum from 2002 -- long before the days of the iPhone’s front-facing cameras and the popularity of social media. Still, what differentiate a selfie from a self-portrait may be the (cutting-edge) medium and, potentially, the socially-driven distribution method. The birth of the selfie didn’t begin with the first smartphone. As the BBC points out, it could be argued that the first selfies were captured in the 1800s with mirrors or by using a self-timer. These proto-selfies fit the orthodox definition in that the photographer was also the subject and, if one were to look at the technology of the time, the camera was as new-fangled

While many of these self-taken photos included large groups of family and friends (as opposed to the contemporary solo selfie), some people from the era did get creative when it came to capturing images of themselves, posing in front of mirrors in order to get an individual picture. But with the digital age, selfies have taken off in a way that no one could have predicted. The humble beginnings of the Internet selfie had social media users flipping their cameras or, like in the late 1800s, using mirrors to capture personal photos of themselves for early social media
Whether it’s through a camera lens from the 1860s or in front of your iPhone, it is both a sense of control and relief that come into play when it comes to taking a personal photo. “In a sense, it allows you to explore in a way that most photographers don’t”. You can control your image going out there, or it can be looked at as you are the photographer and the subject, which can be a very freeing feeling.” Source: huffingtonpost.com
