iator International Congregation News On July 14 the General Chapter re-elected Father Leonard Audet from the Province of Saint Laurent, as Superior General of the Congregation. After consultation with and the consent of the Provincials, Father Audet announced the members of the General Council on Sunday, July 17. The other members of the General Council are appointed for three year terms by the Superior General -usually, one representative from each of the Provinces - Spain, France, Canada and the United States. The role of the General Council is twofold: 1) the international coordination of the role of the Viatorian mission; 2) the ongoing support of Viatorian religious in line with the founding vision of our founder, Father Louis Querbes. The representative from the United States, Father Mark Francis, is a 1971 graduate of St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois. After graduation, Father Francis returned to St. Viator to teach history for one year and then was assigned to the faculty of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada for two years. Vocation News Mr. Daniel Belanger joined the Viatorian PreNovitiate Program in August. He arrived in Arlington Heights, Illinois after the long drive from Las Vegas:, Nevada. Dan is living at the Province Center, where he is getting his first experie¡n ce of Viatorian community life. A native of Southern California, Dan has lived and worked most recently in Las Vegas. Here he met Father Tom von Behren. The two of them were on a tour of Catholic Social Services shelter for the homeless. Dan was there as a volunteer, and Tom was there as a new member of the Board. As they began to talk, he expressed an interest in the Viatorians. Later working with Father Jim Crilly, and corning to know many of the Viatorians living and working in the Las Vegas area, Dan asked to continue his vocational journey with the Clerics of St. Viator. Dan comes to us with a wealth of experience. He is 31-years-old, and has served for nine years in the US Air Force. During that time he completed his Bachelor of Science degree through the Southern Illinois University extension program. Since leaving the military, Daniel gave his time as a catechist in two Las Vegas area parishes, while exploring his vocation. He also worked full-time for one of the hotels there. During his Pre-Novitiate time, Daniel will attend the Institute of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University of Chicago. Along with background in theology, pastoral practice and ministry, Daniel hopes to concentrate in youth ministry. He is also working part-time at St. Viator High School as a substitute teacher, and volunteering with the Campus Ministry Office there. Daniel brings much enthusiasm and energy to ministry with young people. The whole Viatorian Community welcomes Daniel. We are happy to share our lives with him as he explores the way that Christ is calling him to serve the People of God.
